The floating platform goofiness at 15:10 is truly worthy of a Sonic TAS. The glitch may be incompetent programming, but the scrolling backgrounds and corrupted graphics are pure Sonic.

19:32 A rabbit coming out of the capsule doesn't even get to hop away. He just falls off the screen! Hey, Somari! Tails called. He says he wants his shoes back.

Somari is actually one of the better pirate-trash games... keep that in context.

Yeah, and an impressive game for the NES in itself. Not even official MasterSystem Sonic port (and Master System, while being 8-bit, was more powerful than NES) had loop-de-loops and this one has it. This is more or less a complete Sonic 1 port, with inferior level design (inescapable pits? Seriously?) and weird sound.

I like to imagine Mario took a bet from Sonic that he could beat the Hedgehog's game with less effort, whereupon Sonic put on a trollface and said "Challenge Accepted." The results are what we see here.

late response but scrap brain was technically dummied out of the game, the zone does exist in the game except it goes completely unused and can only be accesed through cheat codes

That verison has better physics then OG nes game. Also there are some other smaller changes.

It's honestly crazy just how far this game goes into desperately trying to make itself a carbon copy of Sonic 1, just with Mario instead of Sonic. It would be fairly impressive if the music didn't sound so grainy and the sprites didn't look half-finished.

The legend goes (though I’m not too sure how accurate this is) that the reason the music sounds the way it does was because it was played to the composer over a landline twice and they had to compose it from memory. The sprites were also done by hand, not just copy/pasted (they might not have even had access to clear footage of the game). All in all, it’s very impressive for what it is.
