[HD] A First Look at Articulated Buses on Route 25 King Edward

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hello, and welcome back to the channel!
This spring timetable revision, we have a first look of articulated buses on route 25. This route connects BCIT and UBC to all three SkyTrain lines, making it a major crosstown service in Vancouver compared to the likes of the 49 49th Avenue and the R4/41 41st Avenue. It's about time this route received articulated buses. However as the spring university semester comes to an end, this soft rollout of articulated buses working with standard 40ft buses seems like a fitting choice as the route prepares for a 20% peak ridership drop during the summer semester. Ideally all trips would be articulated buses; however there seems to not be enough articulated units to go around yet.

4:31 this is a formal way of saying 22007, 22009, 23004, 23010-23012, and 23015 have yet to start revenue service. Please check the various local bus spotter pages for details.

Are all these buses meant for the 25 service? Could this explain why the rollout of 60ft on 25 isn’t 100% at this time ( barring the end of school term case )

In terms of equipment, yes. The company still needs to place 7 articulated buses from 2022-23 into service, however there's no guarantee where they will actually end up. I hope I'm wrong but I don't the 25 will have 100% artics during the AM/PM rush.

@@jmstransit the old schedule had 77 pcap *15 throughput for 1,155 capacity. The new schedule, if we assume 7 artic + 4 std, is at 1,148 pcap. The capacity is actually 1% less than before.

Translink still needs to address the elephant in the room - stop using those small community buses that are limited to 24 people total! (maybe even less).

My biggest problem with this is the 23 service optimization study. They found that the route would do 10x better with a 40 foot re routed from beach to Robson and back into downtown. It seemed to receive an approval rate from residents and riders yet, so far nothing is being done?! I’d imagine it doesn’t take that long to reshuffle a community shuttle route into a 40 foot route. TransLink should also look into medium duty 30-35ft buses from Alexander Dennis & New Flyer.

The 8100's did the #99 B-Line before. Are they moving those out of Burnaby and into Vancouver for the #84 and #25 runs?

16 of the 39 in the batch transferred for 2/25/44/84 runs. Originally I thought it was more (all 39). Full-day runs of route 44 also transferred to Vancouver this timetable revision. Edit: 18 now.
