Hayk - Tatar style laminated bow by Bucktrail - Review
A great entry level laminated bow for a good price. Performs well but has some small issues due to mass production.
My advice, don't get this bow in more then 40#
You can order the bow at Malta Archery (thank you for letting me test the bow):

My favorite bow design the Tatar bows. Looks nice and looks cool for fun in the evenings. In your hands they always shoot super well 🥰🏹
Thank you Armin. Your reviews are always a welcome part of my day.
I like your reviews because you are always honest about what the bow is really like

thank you, thats the only way which works for me :)
Thanks for the review! I recently bought this bow, being an absolute beginner, so it's nice to hear i've made a reasonably good choice. I've made a habit of practicing both thumb release and Mediterranean combined with holding left and right while holding 3 arrows in the bow hand. It's a good way of giving my fingers some time to relax a few days. I hope to visit Malta some day and come practice at the range. Your videos are a true inspiration. Thanks a lot! With kind regards, Jan-Willem
Thanks always look forward to your reviews
Thank you for the review! I have this bow at 30# in my collection, and it's a not-expensive, nice, very sturdy and stiff, beginner friendly bow that I could recommend for activities that provide a damage risk (horseback shooting, hiking & 3D shooting, teaching new shooters and children).
I always like the Tatar bows this one looks so nice
I have this bow, it's the first and only one I have (for now hehehe ;) for about a year. It's nice to see you review this bow and I must agree; It's a fun shooter. Once I can get back to the range (hopefully soon) I hope it can teach me all about thumb release. The rest of the club shoots longbow or olympic style and compared to those you can see that these bows are little speed monsters.
Awesome video as always Armin ! I will probably buy the Hayk for my girlfriend in 25#, the Tatar design is wonderful. I like the little change you made in your rating system, to mark /10 and not on 5 stars. Much easier to read ! Have fun and keep shooting :D
Hi Armin, thanks for the review, was thinking to get this bow, saw it selling at very affordable price in my place.
Thanks for the info.. should be getting one soon :)
That's very good value for what you get very nice bow 👏🇮🇪
THIS BOW IS REALLY MANUFACTURERED BY AF ARCHERY, OR THE SAME COMPANY THAT MANUFACTURERS AF ARCHERY BOWS. THANKS FOR REALIZING THIS ARMIN, AND TELLING EVERYONE.
Wow that looks very smooth. Enjoy! :)
Great looking bow.
Thanks always a good vid😀😀
Wow that Tatar style bow is fantastic🏹🏹🏹🏹👍👍👍👍👍😃😃😃😃
Looks like a pretty nice bow - the tiller issue. Not a bad price with all you get. 👍🏼🏹🇺🇸
I bought this bow in 55# and I have to say I recommend to wear a thin glove, or thicken the grip, because my bow hand got a little bit sore after few days of shooting in a row
Just bought 30# today ( was between 30 and 35 , but despite the trainer warning me it will become lighter faster it is my first ever bow and I just started. So form and enjoinment have precedent ( as with the motorcycles - it will not stay alone for long so plenty of time for stronger bows in the future :) ) thank you for the great reviews for beginner bows - they helped A TON !!!

Welcome enjoy shooting
Also, it looks very much like the AF bow (which I liked alot), especially the string pad.
very tempting bow, performance is excellent and so cheap it's almost worth trying your luck for a good one lol
i ve a longbow from buck trail . there is nothing to complain at this price and i m fine with it . but a delamination problem might be not unusual for these brand . very suprising because bucktrail is made for win & win in china . w & w is a very high quality brand so far i know . a companion at my archeryclub had a delamination with his longbow in the summertime . but there was absolute no problem with a replacement for the bow -- takes only 4 days and he got a new one and it still works 3 years now.
Good looking bow, the shape reminds me of the AF Archery Tartars. Hmm didn't the Flint look alot like the first iteration of the turkish from AF. I wonder if they sold there original molds. Anyway sweet looking little shooter should be a great beginners bow and for the money through Malta Archery with arrows and a second string! As Armin would say " a no brainer". Thanks for another great review my friend keep em coming!

This bad boy is a beautiful bow
Tatars are awesome
Thank you very much for this review Armin. I have bought one of these bows. I do not have a tiller so I cannot say if mine has the same imbalance as your one, but the finish on the handle does not have those scratchy bits yours did, but I can detect the slight uneven profile of the limb. I presume this is just luck with the mass production. For the price it is a very good bow. I also have a bucktrail antelope traditional recurve which is a very nice bow.

U dont need a tiller to measure the distance between each bend on both top and bottom. Mine is 8" and 8 1/8.
Beautifull bow...
hi armin..what is recommended arrow spine and weight for this 40# bow..tq
I really like that bow but I'm still curious what to buy for beginning... Buck Trail Hayk, Flint or Oakridge Sada or should I choose something else in that price range?
Buck Trail? I still remember how the Flint model snapped in your review. In my (limited) experience, the only "cheap" bows I would buy are from Alibow.

Buck Trail should make an statement regarding the tailoring of this bow.

Its mass production so that's what happens. You could just shoot it upside down no problem.
Even though I started archery when I was 15, ohhhh so many years ago, until recently the only thing I would associate the word ‘tatar’ with was a mispronunciation of the sauce.😝 get it? Tartar sauce? 🙄. Anyway another great vid. Always a pleasure to watch you shoot. Cheers👍😎🇨🇦🏹

Tartars are people form Tartary/Tartaria. That was a name the Europeans used for Asia. While all Tatars are Tartars, not all Tartars are Tatar. The term and it's use goes back to the 13th century. From Old French Tartaire, from Medieval Latin Tartarus (“Tartar, Mongol”), from Old Turkic Tatar (Tatar), spelling influenced by Latin Tartarus (“Hell (in Greek mythology)”), from Ancient Greek Τάρταρος (Tártaros). Historia Mongalorum quos nos Tartaros appellamus (“History of the Mongols Whom We Call the Tartars”) and Liber Tartarorum (“Book of the Tartars”). Giovanni Da Pian Del Carpini, FRANCISCAN AUTHOR 1247

True. I had a look at both at my local archery shop. I was about to buy the Sada first, but it was not in storage in with 40# and the current version has orange colored string rests, which looks terrible, imho. Got the Hayk now and like it. A lot.

Hi. Not too heavy but stiff enough. Wood, carbon all will do. Wood spined 35-40# and carbon 600. If you shoot thumb release :)

That’s 5ft11 in imperial measurements. Very useful to know . As when watching the draw you have to bear in mind your arm length will be longer or shorter perhaps. So a comfortable position may mean different draw lengths for different people.

@@ArminHirmer awesome ! Thank you. Looking forward to it. Under 300 give some place for higher quality and made to order bow. Maybe under 200 in the future for mass production ?
This bow was my first bow and it was a good starter bow to get me going, had lots of fun practicing with it and getting used to archery. Unfortunately I managed to crack the nock of the top ( I think this is how it's called), but that was my mistake. The production was good. Problem is - the bone dots from the top of the handle started to fall off, this is the thing that I didn't like with the bow. Other than that, for me it was a good investment, getting my simsek bow soon!
I am sorry, but correct me if I am wrong, isn't Malta archery = Armin archery?
