HAY BOMB!
Today I'm dropping a HAY BOMB on the pigs! Properly bedding pigs is one of the keys to raising pigs in the winter. It's another busy day on the farm, with lots of little jobs to be done. We have a cull cow going to the butcher tomorrow, and I talk about the criteria we use to determine which cows are culled. I install new LED lights in the shop, and do a test to determine the differences between the color rendition of fluorescent vs LED lights in the shop. The bulls are fighting to establish dominance, as they do every so often, and all the cattle are kicking up their heels. I think they know spring is coming! I also have some good news about our hay situation!

I love the way you show farm life the way it really is. Pens aren't always pristine. It isn't always magical

My wife sent a picture of a group of our lambs to her co-workers . One was upset because a 5 day old lamb has a cheesy caked bum. I took other photos and explained that it was a good thing, it meant the lamb was getting lots of milk from mom. People forget where food comes from and they "humanise" animals.
I learned early in life growing up on the farm ---- never underestimate the intelligence and industrial ability of a pig! Enjoy your videos and your humorous quips!! You certainly seem to enjoy your work/hobby.
You guys obviously were quite fond of Sammy. I didn't look at the comments because I expected too many comments based on the confusion between pets and livestock, and I am sure that I wasn't the only one. However, I am guessing that this meant that you got fewer positive comments. Here is one now. Thank you for having a great enough heart to grow fond of an animal even though you know that goodbye will come soon. This allows you to give a good life to them while they are here. You, and people like you, are the proof that there is a better way. I will continue to look for a local ethical farmer so I can be apart of the better way as well. Thank you.
Save the defuser and put it back on when you paint. Otherwise the bulbs themselves will eventually have the same problem. And I learned something new. I didn't know Boar Taint was a thing.

Oh... yes... umm boar taint. My favorite.
After you clean the paint off the diffuser's, put on a lite coat of Vaseline, it will allow light to come thru. and all you have to do to clean it is wipe it off with a rag, off comes the paint with the Vaseline, and just apply another lite coat. thanks for taking us along on your daily chores. speaking of which I have a few that need tending Have a good day Pete. off to chores.
"Still a gentleman"........Hehehee ;o) Pete, you are one FUN farmer!! I look forward to every episode with you. Don't let the whiners bring ya down (regarding being a working farm and butchering). The majority of Americans are so far removed from the reality of REAL farming that they are lost in their "petting zoo" mentality!! Keep on keeping on!! Proud of you and your family!!! > ;o)
The pigs sure are getting big! I miss the "run, run, run, run" days!

I grew up on a small dairy farm in Vermont. I used to hate "MUD SEASON", more commonly known as March. Lived on a dirt road 5 miles out of town. The roads used to get so bad, we had to skip going to town for a few days.
Im 65 and have farmed a small farm all my life and raise herford cattle , pigs and chickens here in the hill country of southern ohio. Love your channel and older equipment
Love watching your Dexters have fun and the boys go at it with each other, really shows the playfulness and personality they have! Another great video and the dad jokes keep getting better! Thanks Pete!
Always enjoy the chores on the farm! The pigs looked like they enjoyed the hay quite well!! Thank you for bringing us along, look fwd to more!!
Just nice to join you on your rounds Pete. Have a good day my friend.

Oh my heavens 😂 this video absolutely cracked me up! Those pigs, young cows, and bulls were somethin else!
Those drop in LED tubes are great. I replaced my entire shop with them and i love it. I more waiting for cold fluorescent tubes to warm up in a cold shop. They’re instant on and nice and bright.
We always named our cattle after family members. We raised them as "pets". At a very young age, we were taught the cattle and pigs were to be food. We tamed them to make it easier to handle them. We did keep a few cows and a bull for more food, and a brown swiss we had for fresh milk and cream
I've found that the meat from some of my culled cows tastes better than just about anything else. There seems to be an direct correlate between how much trouble a cow causes on the farm and how good it tastes on the plate.
Hello Pete, I came across your videos on KZread yesterday and I'm totally engrossed in watching all your farming videos, plus I've subscribed. We send send our love and best wishes from England. Take care, David.
I have to pay you a compliment for being great at explaining things and your relly well spoken, you would do well teaching in a classroom, 👍👍👍
Cracks me up that the "city slickers" would get all worked up over a particular calf going to the butcher. I really like the way you show farming as it really is. Sometimes the animals are frolicking in a meadow of flowers, sunshine, and butterflies. But sometimes things are muddy, poopy, wet, icy and snowy. But it's only temporary before the animals get fresh bedding. Reminds me so much of what farming was like, growing up on a farm in Iowa in the 1960's and 1970's, when we had primarily free range livestock. Thanks, Rick Shafer
We enjoy 😊watching your videos and we thank you for all the great ideas . The only problem is we can get enough and seen to continue watching until 3-4 am 😂 Once again thank you for posting and we wish to meet you one day in person . We are from Northern California
Hello, Pete, great video again, you are a person who charges with a lot of energy and positivity, thank you for this thing and I hope the weather will improve soon and spring will come to us ... Thank you again
Awesome day Pete, even though it's freezing and thawing, so much better than sitting in cube in an office building:) Thanks!
I remember when I was a kid dad would castrat the piglets that was crazy but it’s part of the process that has to be done God bless farmers and family we can’t survive without you

From watching Pete, there is a lot about the animal growing process that some would deem disgusting or weird, me included, but it’s a necessary thing. Without people like Pete we wouldn’t be able to buy quality meats.
It’s great to see a farmer loving what he’s doing.
You cracked me up with the petting zoo line. My brother found two piglets running on I-79 many years ago and brought them home. My 4year old nephew at the time named them pork chop and bacon. He got it early. Love the channel. Keep 'em coming Pete.
Love watching and learning all about what a farmer does each day. And I love your jokes. Be well!
Enjoyed the farm update, Pete! Thank you! 🇺🇸🚜👍
Put pallets down so your hay doesn’t rot at the bottom 👍
Busy time. Thank you for sharing.
Mud,animals and manure on the farm, hasn’t changed at all.Enjoy.Reality in the real world of agriculture and farm life.Great video presentation, thank you Pete...
The relax presentation style and editing, makes me fell im at the farm with Jay Leno. 👏👍🗝
Nothing more fun than giving pigs new bedding. They are a fun bunch to watch.
Love seeing every thing going on. Thank you.
We primarily raised Herefords for the beef and Guernseys for the dairy on the ranch. At least to the best of my failing memory those were the breeds. As a kid, I remember that some of the dairy cattle weren't all that gentle and I got knocked off of my milking stool quite often. To be honest, most of it was my fault for directing the milk stream to the barn cats and my stool only had one leg and I was known for being not the brightest of kids---I guess it still holds true, lol. Thanks for a reminder of the everyday chores and the calm that it always evoked early in the predawn times.

@Nairu Arts I am no expert on cattle breeds---just a guy who was raised on a ranch for a few years and then off we went following my dad's dream which wasn't ranching or farming. On our ranch, though, no dairy cow ever went to the butcher to be processed for meat. Not sure why but my grandpa just wouldn't hear of it.
Those boys seeking dominance in the pasture is where the term "bull headed" comes from...
Great video again! Love how you can make the mundane day to day chores look fun and interesting. I love doing chores and mingling with the sheep. As for the "crying", people have forgotten where food comes from. It's hard to explain to people that livestock are not humans and have basic needs to be happy and healthy....food, water, shelter if they want it, someone to check up on their well being. Keep up the great work.
Looking good Pete! Thanks for taking us along for another day on the farm. I think the general consensus is that we all enjoy being brought along to help you do chores :-) As for the new lights in the shop, we're about the same age and my eyes don't see quite as good as they used to either. I have been upgrading the lights in my shop to LED's as well. Have a great day!
I found out the price of a slice of pie in the Dominican Republic is five dollars and the price of a slice of pie in Jamaica is three dollars. Now you know the pie rates of the Caribbean.
"Crisis Poop" - I love the narration!
Love the marshmallow joke straight off the top ! That’s the way to start a video.
Thanks for taking the time to post!!
We enjoyed that re-leaved joke. That was clever. Keep up the good work, my son and I enjoy watching your videos and your jokes!
Thank you for sharing brother

5:13 piggies will LOVE THIS
Another great video, thank you.
Enjoy watching your videos
Great video Pete everyone of them make my day.
Pete I really didn't see much difference in the color. When the tractor is outside in pure sunlight I know we will see the true color. Enjoyed another day on the farm, thanks.
I love watching your video thank you for sharing about your farm definitely in the wintertime hard to work and doing some work when it's slushy. And I CE definitely hard to work but I still love the winter you can definitely tell that your animals are happy thank you . By the way about the red color is long you happy the rest of it is not important stay healthy be happy peace
On my PC monitor, the lights definitely changed the orange to red. Save the old diffusers or get new ones for when you paint again to protect the new bulbs. Love your videos ... thank you so very much!!
Your red barn looks like the ark with those windows up toward the top of the roof you think your barn will float haha
I had a great time hanging out with your today!!
Yepper 😎. Thanks 😊
WOW, Titus is super smart.
Love your shows! I bought 5 dexters last weekend.
Thanks Pete!
Im starting to get inlove with you place and its amazing 😊😊😊 a lot of hardworks and keep your family moving ....

Re- leaves🌳/😂🤣😂 when spring comes, good one‼️👍🏾
Those are Some happy pigs!!!
Maybe spring is in the air. 👏👏👏 I hope so. 💞💞☀️☀️
I'm a big fan of LED lights. Most of my house I use LED lighting and also in my shop. I like how they are brighter and I can see better.
The new lights are amazing. Looks more red. Re-leaved Spring is coming...👍💚😂😂😂
17:35 he sounds pretty happy

The joke about your pillow is as old as dirt you’re such a doofus but I love it
I love your videos so much
Crisis poop. lol I about spit my drink out.
Paint color looked the same red, just shinier and better. Looks like quite the paint job, aka looks awesome!
Looks like everybody on your farm thinks spring isn’t far off. I like the new lights. I use something similar when I work on Hardanger embroidery.
I would follow you in chapter and verse ,you have life’s issues sorted ,what a roll model you are wish I was half of whet you are , bless you brother,
Hi Pete, great another video. Time for me sit down have a tea and enter your world gives me a moment's rest from mine. Still not red to me but without mentioning anything my son watched a earlier clip and I asked him what color and he said red lol. Maybe take a piece outside and film it just to see. Lights look good allways nice to have good lighting. I do the same when painting with a led light, it's great to see what was missed. Looks like the pigs are planing an escape they knew the water would come in to hide there plan. Your animals are content it shows look great I think they know spring is coming and are anxious as well for the "mud season ". Carefull around the bulls and I know your very well aware just saying that's all. Raining here today I'm thinking our weather is close the same. Glad you found some hay. As allways your videos are top entertainment thankyou!!!!!! Enjoy and have a great day.
For cattle here in the UK with a bollock still in them they're called a rig. For us as well compared to where we were last winter/spring we wished we would have kept more feed back, guess when there's a good year and prices supply is higher than demand it'll be time to fill the barns!
Awesome video 😁
Still looked orange after the new bulbs
I’m amazed how Hillary got you to eat that goose down pillow 😂

@Scuba Steve I watch Pete on my TV via a Chromecast. We don't even have cable. Just youtube.
Everything here in southern Australia is hot brown and dry and I wonder if it will ever be green again but the season opening rains turn the landscape to green in only a few days. A change that amazes me every year. The frozen soil and mud looks so depressing to deal with, but the change is coming. You talk about spring and we notice the mornings here have. more of an Autumn feel. Good for you finding some hay nearby, there is nothing worse than counting bales and worrying how will I ever feed these animals, or worse yet having to sell some breeders just to get through a tight time. I hope you have a better hay season and build up your stocks. Dave.
Playing king of the yard.
The animals enjoy your company and show off for you.
Cute little calf looks delicious!
I'd love to see the hay bail "Pigloo" with them all dug in
Nice video bale bomb and bull fight doin chores bring back memories
I love the jokes Pete. Keep'em coming. Lol.
That is sooo funny!
