Follow along on this journey between two humans, a decker line rat terrier, and a juvenile red tailed hawk learning to get her freedom back! This poor bird was SHOT by ignorant humans but now through lots of hard work and rehab she’s healing up well. She’s been transferred to me as a falconry bird to make sure she can gain her strength back well enough to be successful on her own! Awesome chase! I was rooting for the hawk the whole time.
I was running equipment at a concrete plant, moving old stormdrain boxes and 2 redtails were lurking, in the background snatching mice and toads as I moved the boxes. So cool!!

Your comment about how the hawk has learned you and your dog find prey for her to hunt is interesting. I noticed a similar behavior from raptors where I dove hunt. The hawks that live in the area I hunt, which there are many of different species and kestrels also, have learned gun fire may mean an easy meal. I noticed one hawk would sit in a tall tree about 200 yards away and when ever I shot it would fly out and circle over the field I was hunting looking for an easy dove to pick up. Pretty smart stuff.

How do you become a falconer? Is there a certain place you have to train?
