The setting, the music and the build up. This was classic Leonard Freeman. It's also why Five-O lasted so long. I have to admit, when I was in Honolulu, the first place I wanted to go was the palace building and stand in McGarrett's "office". The best I could get was standing in front of the office window since the office was really at a sound stage on Oahu.

Now, as I watch reruns of the remake of Hawaii 5-0...still entertaining....but few of those scenes exist today. Modernity has certainly changed Honolulu. I guess for the positive!

They were both great in their own right. Alex O'Loughlin never tried copy Lord's acting style. He made the character his own. The reboot was fun if you take it for as individual show. If they tried to make it exactly like the original, that would have been a fiasco.

I came back to watch this again and started thinking of how well down the camera work was throughout the entire scene. The editing was really tight too. For example the dust was still flowing in the air from the spook’s (slang for CIA guys)car when the cops pulled him out. You normally wouldn’t have good editing like that in a tv show.

It's one of my favorite clips too. It must have taken a while to shoot and edit. What I really like about this clip is the coordination. He got his officers to the exact right place at the exact right time, and he himself was already waiting there. McGarrett must have known the streets of Honolulu like the back of his hand.
