Here’s what I did one time. While going through Facebook, I read out loud a summary of all of the content I was scrolling through one by one, regardless of if it was post or an ad. I’m not sure why I did it, but it kind of makes you see how much information your brain actually processes in a short amount of time while “mindlessly” scrolling. No wonder we feel mentally drained.

I deleted my twitter back in 2017. I had FOMO for awhile but realized how self conscious and anxious it made me feel seeing everyone else’s perceived “success.” I actually started to believe that twitter was representative of how most people in the world felt and lived their lives particularly in regards to politics. Years later I believe it was one of the most pivotal decisions I made in regard to my own relationship and personal happiness. It is insane to think about how much of an impact those thoughts and feelings that came from constantly scrolling had subtly changed the way I was living my life.

I got accepted into college early decision so I was able to use it early. I was fascinated by it but once it opened up to the rest of the world and people started posting about every insignificant thing in their life, I realized social media was for attention starved people and I didn't want to be like them. Crazy how much has changed.

@rpstephans yea I can relate for sure. I graduated in 03 so I grew up in the MySpace days. Then it wasn't cool anymore for some reason. Always thought it was better than fb personally. I was in a band for years when I had fb so it was great for promoting and networking. After I left music I had lost all interest and seemed pointless. Now it's spyware TicToc which is absurd. But you're right, it's all for attention and people that want to brag about every little things that they do, have and see. Shits ridiculous. Alot of those people have low self esteem so they need those likes to boost their ego.

I think the biggest problem for kids especially is that kids typically feel pretty isolated and misunderstood. And it's really easy to turn to social media to find a group of people who "understand" you. But that group of people is usually going to be toxic af, probably even containing more than a few child predators. Parents think their kids are just talking to friends. But when their phone buzzes, it actually could be and probably is, someone they don't even know irl sending obscene material that they aren't emotionally mature enough to handle yet. You literally have 15yr old kids sending nudes in group chats with strangers. So it really shapes their development in a dark way, probably leading to a lot of the systemic problems we see in our youth rn.

Discipline equals freedom. The best definition I like about discipline. Is when we give ourselves a command, and do it. Even if you don't feel like doing it, or don't like it. It either controls us, or we control it.

Its weird but a lot of jobs require social media and get weirded out if you don't have anything. I'm an actor and not only do they demand I have an instagram that is public, but when I audition they have me list how many followers I have. Its really sad, but the people who actually get in the audition room are those with no talent but millions of followers. Curious how auditioning was in the 90s and earlier.

Yeah the scrolling behavior I find is really toxic for me personally… turned me into a depressive zombie tbh. I go onto instagram and it’s so easy to be sucked into meme world and all of a sudden you’ve literally wasted 2 hours of your life. I absorb so much info and knowledge on KZread… it’s not really social because you can’t have running convos with people (at least not easily)… it’s easy enough to avoid dumpster fires on YT… not so much on FB, Twitter or Insta

Joe, you need to get Eric Cantona on your show. He is the most amazing character, a French king of Soccer. He led the famous Manchester United team to success in the 90's. A controversial, charismatic and sometimes violent player (and still looked noble). Would make the most amazing interview and with the Manchester United tour going to America at the seasons end it would be great timing. Anyone who doesn't know who he is look him up. This would be Gold dust. I bet he'd get high too!

Ever since playing vr I look at video gaming entirely different and I always see myself as the character now it’s just a hard thing to unsee once you do . Nothing made this more prevelant then playing the forest while another guy was on pc and he could see my vr fluent movements and I saw his pc clunky movements
