Have You Seen This Lost Media? II

What better way to start the new year than by asking the question, have you seen these pieces of lost media? They were once publicly available so maybe you have!

Are you sure the SpongeBob SquarePants video wasn't an ad for Panda Express? Panda Express is a fast food chain that started in Inglewood, California, and is one of the biggest chains that sells Chinese style food. All we need now is proof that Panda Express had a deal at any point with Nickelodeon.

the Captain Underpants prototype reminds me a little bit of the formerly lost 'Jon' comic strip that was created in 1976 before Garfield was officially syndicated, especially since Pilkey has never really mentioned it before. Jim Davis has only ever mentioned Gnorm Gnat in interviews and published books relating to what he did before Garfield, and it wasn't until almost 40 years after Garfield was published that we discovered that 'Jon' was published, resulting in it getting scanned and marked as found, so i definitely think the Captain Underpants prototype also actually exists and it's just a similar case to Davis never talking about 'Jon'. many artists don't really like to talk about super early stuff like that, especially if it isn't as successful as they'd hoped it'd be before making the final product. i hope that one day it is fully scanned and released because i'd love to read it!!!

I'm not 100% sure where I saw it, but I distinctly remember watching the spongebob fortune cookie scene. From what I remember, Patrick eats the whole cookie, then spongebob points out he ate the fortune, then Patrick peels the fortune off his tongue and reads it, with it having a visible bite mark in the corner. I watched this on Nickelodeon likely in the mid to late 2000s in the UK. I hope this helps a little, and sorry I don't remember more on it. I would assume it's probably from a promotional bumper or something promoting a Nickelodeon show or product unlike the 'Got Milk' promo, as like I said I saw this in the UK and we have very different products over here than in the US.

I remember the fortune cookie one! How the OP described it. I was in high school when I started watching and only watch it for two years. So 2001 (when we first got satellite TV) through 2003 was when this must have aired since I didn’t watch SpongeBob or much Nickelodeon after that. Considering OP also wrote mid 2000s I doubt anyone would consider 2003 as mid-2000s. Maybe they saw a rerun of something I had once seen. But that, “uh, Patrick, you ate the fortune” just sparked a memory of it.

A piece of lost media I've been obsessed with for the past year is an arcade game called _Laser Grand Prix_ from 1983. It was reportedly very similar to Atari's _Pole Position_ from the previous year, with the catch being that while the cars and stats would be rendered with traditional pixel art, the track would be rendered using laserdisc video, which was used in other games of the era such as _Dragon's Lair_ and _Space Ace._ Unfortunately, the game sold very poorly, and while the ROMs and video footage exist online, they do not work in any emulator. If you need a visualizer, there is an incredibly similar game called _GP World_ released by Sega not too long after that is fully preserved and even features the same track used in LGP. I haven't seen anyone cover this intriguing topic, though. Not just this specific game, but laserdisc games in general. Quite a few others are also lost, and it's quite the weird rabbit hole to go down.

I remember Spongbob and patrick splitting a fortune cookie, Spongebob eats one half and Patrick eats the other. But then patrick sadly says "Hay, where's the fortune?" to which spongebob says "You ate it patrick". Patrick then spits out the little piece of paper into his hand which is drawn in a 'grossup' style then they both read from it. Thats about all i can remember.

XD First off, it was definitely not related to the "Coming This Month" thing. It was one of the short ~5 seconds bumpers that play immediately before the show comes back from commercial breaks. And I had it as being from around the City Era (which the timeline mentioned here in the video lines up).

So some time between 2013-2019, I watched a movie (don't remember which) and a commercial before the movie popped up. It was of this cyborg-like horse rider on the moon. Picture the Polo Ralph Lauren logo but a cyborg. The horse rider was dressed similar to some 1700s British soldier but wasn't wearing a hat, he had black or dark hair. The horse might have been a cyborg, robot, or normal horse. The cyborg's mouth unhinges open and his face plates open up like some FNAF animatronic. And he like explodes apart or something, with the moon gravity and stuff. The commercial was in a comic book type art style. The ad freaked me out when I was younger and first saw it. It's been haunting me for years. I think it was either in an AMC or Regal theater. I hope this is enough info to find it.

The Demo was not in the Gigaleak, but the graphics used in the demo were.

Ok so captain underpants is interesting, i went to check his website to confirm something and it does mention that he did write short stories about both Dogman and Captain underpants when he was younger. However it mentions that happened when he was in elementary schoo. The characters of george and harold are somewhat based on himself (both have adhd and both xerox copies of their comics [if true] as well as misbehaving in class) however, it doesnt mentioned if he sold them or not (George and Harols sold theirs for 50 cents though). The haircut in the prototype is interesting because it reminds me of superman, and a general tagline of Captain Underpants was: Most superheroes look like they're flying around in their underwear...well, this guy actually is flying in his underwear! So prototype Captain underpants having Supermans hairstyle makes sense. Final note, in his comic biography he notes "Dav went to college in 1984, where his life was forever changed in a freshman English class", he was encouraged to become a childrens author after drawing cartoons in class. Note sure if timelines add up, but according to him the idea for that character started ages ago, and he did do "something in college" involving cartoons. So we are looking at an early college prototype, or its a super clever hoax from a fan of the series.

Perhaps that's what happened with Boo Berry and Count Chocula, that they just never ended up being shipped out because of the pandemic.

There was a promo for Dexter's Lab reruns on Boomerang UK from late 2011 that used to be on KZread years ago. It had Dexter running a simulation to determine who was the smartest between himself and Dee Dee. Towards the end he utters "Dee Dee's score is higher than mine!!" It stuck out to me due to how poorly animated it was (likely done in Flash) and for Dexter's voice not sounding anything like the original VA. The Captain Underpants prototype book being photocopied and hand stapled is referenced in the books themselves - George and Harold distribute their comic books to the school by appropriating the school’s photocopier. That may be the reason people don’t believe its’ real - it can just as easily be seen as a hoax reusing elements from the story itself as it can a nod to the author’s self-published past.
