Have the Gaza Encampment Protests Been Infiltrated by Psychopaths?

Here is a clip from our most recent podcast with social psychologist, Ronnie Janoff-Bulman. In it, she and Dr. Peterson discuss the onslaught of college protesters currently advocating for Hamas, and debate the susceptibility for these groups to be infiltrated by bad actors.

On her point about the left not looking for strong men, she conveniently forgot about Stalin, Mao, Castro, Che Guevara the list goes on. She may dispute that they are leftist but that would be to, in some sense, axiomatically divorce authoritarianism from the left. Which is not fair. The left can be authoritarian just as the right. Authoritarianism isn't an exclusive to the right. On the last point about how we should focus on inequalities in dealing with these social injustices the devil is in the details. Will we dispute is not that these problems exist but in how we solve these problems. The left and right don't deny the existence of inequalities and disparities. They dispute over how to solve them.

Authoritarianism is far more leftist than right. If you go all the way right, it's anarchy. NO government. NO authority. If you go all the way left, it's communism. FULL authority. State authority. The vast majority of people nowadays are not only ignorant to what the left-right spectrum is, they actually believe it's the opposite of what it actually is. Perfect example, most people nowadays think the Nazis were right wing. Even though they were socialists with socialist IN THEIR PARTY NAME. They used state control to control everyone and everything and killed anyone who opposed them. That's leftist authoritarianism to the extreme. And yet most people think NAZIS, NAtionalist soZIalists (German spelling with a Z), were right wing. NAZI is literally a short form for National Socialist.

They can't, or don't want to see, the connection between culture and a successful civilization. They don't, because it would mean they would have to accept that "Dead old white man Patriarchy culture" is what is required for a successful civilization. She lives in a bubble where actual reality rarely if ever corrects her ideas. If an engineer builds a bridge and it collapses, that's an obvious indictment of their ability. If an intellectual spews out nonsense that does real harm in the real world, they pay no personal price for that. Peterson is also an academic, but he's lived in the real world and - I think importantly - comes from a working class, rural background. He has been able to think through ideas and policies and understand where they will go in practice out in the world - which is how foresaw so much of the damage that is being done.

The distances and times are just too large. Like every property would have to have its own dedicated cop. "Conservatives just need to become socialists. Then we could all get along and have both social order AND social justice." As a conservative-leaning libertarian, her argument chilled me to the core. It is nightmarish to imagine a society that would combine the admittedly control-oriented aspects of the right with the obsession with economic equity of the left. And we don't have to imagine it. We can read about it in the books about Maoist China and the USSR. Janoff-Bulman made some excellent points in the free-to-the-public discussion about shattered assumptions and trauma, and I appreciated her concession to the disastrous effects of the defund the police movement. She is obviously an intelligent, confident, and capable woman, and I wouldn't be surprised if she has genuinely good intentions. But it is the intelligent, confident, capable people with good intentions and fundamentally anti-freedom ideals that have done the most harm to humankind over the past two centuries, and perhaps since the beginning. Terrifying woman.

They really think their position is morally self-evident, undeniably decent. I think they're at the stage where they're thinking "if we work together we can achieve our aims, we have more power than we realize" and they're basically aiming very directly at turning words into action, and we can see the results of those words quite clearly.

freedom of speech: the ability to speak one’s mind without fear of RETRIBUTION. Normally, freedom of speech is dependent on the prevailing governmental rules, at least at the public level. In private, freedom to speak one’s mind, is entirely contingent on the rules of the particular house or institution in question. Freedom of speech does not negate the CONSEQUENCES of one’s speech. In order to give one example, if a child berates his father, obviously, he ought to be punished for that sinful deed. In order to propose another example, a genuine king will permit his subjects to criticize his actions in a constructive manner, as long as they refrain from deliberate insults, which is a criminal offence (see Chapter 12 of "A Final Instruction Sheet for Humanity"). A large proportion of humanity seems to agree that one should refrain from speaking words that incite violent acts, and that one ought not yell the word “Fire!!” in a crowded room or auditorium, purely as a practical joke. Those who believe that free speech should be totally unconditional, will not be able to sustain that opinion if his or her children spout insubordinate speech, as in the first example. So, to put it very succinctly, just as it is possible to execute immoral acts (that is to say, bodily acts such as theft, fornication, public obscenities, and murder), it is possible for a human to make verbal enunciations that are objectively immoral, far more than just those actions normally recognized by most jurisdictions, such as libel and slander. Any speech that is contrary to the principles of dharma, is unethical, and must be punished by a superior - again, few parents would excuse a child of theirs who belittled, insulted or even instruct them! Read Chapter 12 to learn the most authoritative interpretation of law/morality/ethics [“dharma”, in Sanskrit]).

This is not to say there shouldn't be consequences for what a person says - far from it. But those advocating for speech restrictions in the West want to prohibit people from saying anything objectionable in the first place. What's more, parents are the only "true" authority, as you correctly observe that parents have authority over their children. But that authority is essential in the child-rearing process. However, among adults, authority is illusionary, as society - another illusion - is simply adults making agreements with each other. Therefore, adults should not be telling other adults what they can and cannot say in the first place.

Yes, it is acceptable at a peaceful protest since we have free speech. We don't have to agree with what is being said, but people have the right to express themselves, and they should. It is very dangerous to restrict speech. What concerns me more about all this is the reaction to the protests, and now the criminalization of speech and protests just because the speech hits a nerve. So now our government is making it illegal to speak or criticize a certain state/people, while at the same time criminalizing the religious texts of a religion that vastly supports that state/people. When people lose their ability to protest and speak, violence will be the outcome.

To be clear, I am not for hatred of any people/race, etc. I want to make sure our rights of speech and public assembly are protected. Right now we don't know the enforcement measures how this will be enforced and what the penalties are for violating the ridiculous law, but I guess we will find out in a couple of years. I guess when churches begin to lose their 501c3 and the church has to go underground for reading "forbidden" scriptures people will finally wake up. There is no vehicle access to Kings College Circle that surrounds the Front Campus. There is a fire hose snaking out from under the fence onto the grass near the walkway. Presumably it is carrying human waste out of the encampment and depositing it for someone else to have to clean up. If the university is smart it will figure out a way to keep the occupiers out of its buildings. (Most of them aren't students. They are mostly union goons running the encampment.) If you want a democracy, please leave the United States. How do you go from "you should talk to those most affected" such as when defunding the police is being considered, to "democracy." Democracy doesn't take those most affected into account, by definition. The ability for some people to hold two directly conflicting stances at the same time is astounding.

I see that most politicians and intellectuals have a hard time criticizing their own group, when being able to do so is a sign that you can think for yourself. The main worry is that most people can't take the possibility of the group turning on them, making it hard to tell the plain truth.

President Grover Cleveland (D) wrote in his book Good Citizenship, "We have fallen upon a time when it behooves every thoughtful citizen, whose political beliefs are based on reason and who cares enough for his manliness and duty to save them from barter, to realize that the organization of the party of his choice needs watching, and that at times it is not amiss critically to observe it's direction and tendency." This was written over 120 years ago. We used to have incredibly thoughtful and forward thinking leaders in this country. Biden is a KNOWN AND CONVICTED plagiarist, so I'm not surprised he doesn't know the words of his own party leaders of yesteryear.

A lot of them participated in the BLM riots and other acts of social unrest, such as Antifa chicanery. I can tell you - based upon my experience - beyond a shadow of a doubt that such protests are a magnet for sociopathic and psychopathic individuals. People only there to engage in vandalism, violence and looting. They get off on the chaos and destruction. And it's a hell of a lot more people than 1 in 20.

She complains about all the wealth being at the top? It's liberal policies that are fostering the dissolution of the Middle Class. The wealthiest people are largely leftists. A strong Middle Class is the greatest check on that because it not only spreads power over a greater population better but it also provides greater opportunity for upward mobility for the poorest among us. A strong Middle Class also tends to be more Conservative. So they create a situation in which the Middle Class shrinks and blames it all on some kind of imaginary "rich people" who are largely conservative (as their target audience for this propaganda might believe) where they are actually more predisposed to liberalism the more the Middle Class shrinks.
