Haunted Mansion “Singing Statue” Jay Meyer

Ойын-сауық

The Haunted Mansion singing bust, Jay Meyer, had a rich entertainment history. In this video, Scott shares Jay’s story as it was conveyed to him by Jay personally. Jay appears and is heard in the Haunted Mansion attraction originally for Disneyland, and now in Walt Disney World and international Disney parks. A seasoned veteran singing on old-time radio and in numerous movies and television programs, Jay also spent 14 years singing live in Frontierland, in Disneyland’s Golden Horseshoe Revue show, which was one of Scott’s favorite things at Disneyland.

That bonus piece is priceless! Jay could bring a tear to my eyes with the clarity of his sweet voice. Thank you Scott for a bright moment in our day.

I'm SO GLAD you liked that! There was sure something special about his voice! I met him late in his life and was touched by his charm. After Fulton Burley passed away I got to produce a tribute to Fulton and I had Jay come to sing Too Ra Loo Ra. He was older and appeared frail. Sadly, he was suffering from dementia, and I was questioning whether I made a huge mistake in asking him to sing. Once he got up there and sang, it was flawless. Just beautiful. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. He got a huge standing ovation, and that was the last time he sang in public.

Wow! So glad to learn about Mr. Meyer and see that clip from the Golden Horseshoe! He looked pretty much the same in the Horseshoe performance, except maybe he had a bit more color in his cheeks :)

Great video as always, Scott! I knew very little about Jay Meyer, so it was wonderful to learn so much about him through your artifacts and clips-but especially your memories. Priceless.
