    I would have thought 150 lb fish were more welcome than 38 inches but u say the smaller ones taste better. Wow. What’s the biggest halibut you’ve ever landed? I’m glad your all safe and Fantastic weather😀 Beautiful 😀what are snails btw?

    Hi Scott! Probably around 150 lbs on our boat. We generally don't fish in the areas with huge fish, they seem to like rocky shallows near the kelp beds. This was a beautiful day on the water! Snails are mollusks.

    Larger fish dont have the meat quality, bigger fish are sometimes chalky and parasites can be more likely with biger, older fish. I will point out that finding parasites has nothing to do with handling, bottom dwelling fish just sometimes have them.

    quality fish there. You have said in an earlier video, the reason for keeping them white side up, but I have forgotten, sorry. Could you explain again?

    Sure! It's to keep the white side bright and free of blood spots. Presents better in a fresh market.

    LOL, I can just picture calling the ER and explaining you're bringing in a serious fish bite. Not a shark but a halibut!!! Has a halibut ever bitten someone that needs ER?

    I'm not sure about that. They have very rough teeth like 60 grit sandpaper, and can shred your skin easily. I would worry most about infection more than a cut.

    Hi anglerfish. We used to sportfish a lot when we were younger and our kids were small. At that time I just crewed on other boats. After we bought the Fish Tale it seemed like we never had time and twenty years has slipped by. Someday we will get back into it, and we will be sure to bring you along. Thanks!

    Do you bleed out the halibut because of the fish? Halibut is my favorite fish. When I get more funds I definitely will order from you. It’s nice to watch fishing channels. Although still a bit squeamish on killing them. Doing better 😇

    How do you maintain position during hauling? Using the tide or engine power? Or does it not matter?

    Reverse gear on the engine if we are being pushed against it. Lots of the time we can lay it so we drift down while we haul.

    Hi, we were fishing 50-70 fathoms. Mostly muddy bottom, with a few rocky spots.

    The yelloweye is a species of rockfish found along the west coast of N. America from Baja to the Aleutian Islands. They are the bright orange fish we get as bycatch.

    Hi Carter. Some species due to abundance do not have directed fisheries, so we get to keep a percentage of the target species as bycatch. For cod it is 20% and rockfish 5%, so for every 1000 pounds round weight of halibut onboard, we can keep 200 pounds cod and 50 pounds rockfish.

    Just to add to that the purpose is to reduce waste some fish will die when released so a small by catch is allowed so that those fish can be used.

    Ugh, Your fishing close to town, where a lot of the locals sport fish and subsistence fish to fill their freezers. I support the commercial fisheries (except the trawlers), but wish the longliners would fish like they used to, further away from town.
