Hauling For Pennsylvania Amish In Old Cabover

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

After loading this Amish made farm implement, I drive off and notice many modern tractors with steel wheels and wonder what the sin is about pneumatic tires. We end the video in Ohio to rest for the night.

Listening to that cat purr is awesome... In Indiana the Amish used to use car rims on trailers with no tires pulled behind horses. They would wear grooves in the roads but they didn’t go to hell I don’t think...😬

I grew up in Ohio and the Amish have the greatest food. They used to set up a bake sale at the end of my grandparents drive way and I'd always go and get lots of bread. They also have amazing wooden picture frames and other amazing things.

Not knocking the Amish too much but if you see the conditions of some of their homes where they make their food, you wouldn’t want to eat it again. I live very close to Waterloo Ontario Canada and have witnessed many times the disgusting conditions. I used to deliver machine parts often to the Mennonite and Amish in the area. One time I witnessed a 10 year old pissing into the container that contained the sap use to make maple syrup. Never had pancakes and syrup again after that.

Don't get a new truck! Keep you Cab-Over in good running shape. Cab-Overs are by far still the coolest looking trucks around! Your Cab-Over looks and sounds to be in GREAT condition. You just don't see many Cab-Overs anymore since production of those has nearly ceased after the change in US Truck Length laws. I also LOVE the sound of those Jake Brakes on Peterbuilts! LOL

Believe it or not Cabovers would still be really practical in the U.S. especially tight places such as Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York Chicago etc. I’ve been in real tight parking spots and sometimes you just have to scratch your head and think “damn this truck is just way too big for this place” especially one of those new Volvo pieces of scrap lol. Europe uses basically just Cabover trucks and nothing else, they do have some conventional models, but mostly Cabovers, and they are very safe and modern too. I would believe re introducing Cabovers would be really cool in the U.S. 🇺🇸 I think they look really attractive to be honest

around Fremont Michigan there are a lot of Amish families nicest people I've met, too bad the area does not have enough room on the side of the road for them, every few years I hear of an accident that might have been avoided if they had more room and people were more attentive when driving ( or not driving while drunk )

The specifics of the wheels on Amish tractors and other implements is up to the local Bishop. It's not the rubber or the pneumatic element of the tire that sends you to hell. Having rubber pneumatic tires makes it easier for you to travel on a whim and be exposed to the English and their worldly ways. Steel rimmed and other non pneumatic wheels keep you close to home. So it's not the tires that send you to hell, it's that shunned Amish bad girl that is now a pole dancer that you meet while traveling far from home. She is the one that sends you to hell. It's kind of like the phone installed in the little shed outside the house. It is installed out there to make it less convenient so you don't waste time on idle chit chat, and cause trouble with gossip

As I understand it, the prohibitions are designed to minimize the amount of influence outsiders have over their lives, not necessarily a prohibition against technology in general, and each Amish church defines their own rules, so some are more permissive than others. So the steel vs pneumatic rubber tires thing is mainly to prevent them from being able to travel long distances, but also because the tech for making them is way too advanced to be something they can maintain on their own. Some Amish communities can use pneumatic power tools and electric generators, but they won't hook into the national power grid: again, to prevent outsiders from holding undue influence over their lives. Pennsylvania requires all road vehicles be lit up at night, no exceptions, so Amish horse-drawn buggies have their own battery-powered headlight and taillight system (because I guess getting hit and run over by modern road traffic at night is considered more of an undue outside influence than bending the rules on electrical technology). So for example, at night, if you see one of those buggies with its left headlight and taillight in high-beam mode vs the rights being low, then it's a buggy whose driver intends to turn left.

I have looked at a lot of videos on many subjects involving vehicles, logistics and similar tasks. I have viewed many of your videos and the following observations apply. Your videos are really good and bring some everyday operations to life, but sometimes over done. One example was the folding of the tarps. The one thing I have read in many video comments is, people consider a video over 10 min to be a candidate for being turned off. It's easy to showcase the key subject or task, call it what you wish, but after repeated scenes etc., it can get boring especially if there is no narrative. Also, music is not well loved because it masks some valuable sounds that are part of the subject.

The wheels on that tractor looks like the Michelin X steel wheel, a rubber wheel with its own suspension. Still a prototype for car use, but is slow taking over the working industry. They give a better ride and the don’t go flat. I see them on mowers and farm tractors all the time. They are starting to show up on skid steers and a useless looking version on front end loaders.

The 'metal wrapped, or wooden (not really) Amish wheels' is primarily to hinder the operator using the equipment as basic transportation. ex @2:05 the john deere lawn tractor has the airless tires but the wagon behind it has standard wheels and tires. There are a couple big benefits to this 1No soft tires means the tractor, combine etc wont be overloading a soft sidewall, popping a tire/rim bead. 1a U can only carry as much weight as the tires sidewall can handle 2 no down time to fix a flat. down time costs money. Tire companies have been making airless 'tires' for yrs. Popular on zero turns and utvs

The reason for the steel rim for the wagon wheels is the rim is a structural component and protects the wood. The rim is heated and set onto the wooden wheel and shrinking on the wood causing a tight fit.

You were in Lancaster county, Amish country. The Amish, the majority here anyways, don't use tractors, aka engine powered equipment, they use horses to farm & 4 transportation. The others u see using tractors, etc are Mennonite farmers. There quite different but both very religious and good people. God Bless and drive safe.

I think the armish are great and they lead a, simple life and try there upmost to save the plant and live green, hence steel wheels last a life time unlike rubber ones , some could say Orwell is armish, lol as reworking a old truck into a second life to do a million miles more is much greener the going and buying a new truck as the old truck carbon foot print is Al ready here the more it's used over time the less the foot print it leaves
