Did you do anything other than keep the water topped up? Do you have to spray them or turn the temp down nearer hatching.

My embryos didn't make it. I was trying to incubate six duck eggs from an abandoned nest. They had been left outside for a few days. These duck eggs were from an abandoned black bottomed whistling duck nest. My neighbor said they came from their roof. I saw the mother bird wandering around their driveway, but she didn't stay. Then she went up to their roof but the eggs were scattered on the ground. There appeared to be around fifteen originally, so I bought an online incubator that fits nine eggs. I set the incubation for 37.8 degrees celsius, and i added a little water to it but I have no way of setting the humidity level. I have just two eggs left, but the embryo is on one side of the egg and after six days I don't see any spider veins on the egg. I held the eggs up to my flashlight in the bathroom and the embryo is scrunched into one side of the egg, so light shows through half of the egg, no spider viens. In your picture you can see light throughout the egg. I started with five eggs a week ago Saturday and just removed two eggs today because they were stinky. I don't think the remaining two are going to incubate. I think the mother had already started incubation and the embryos were dead to begin with. I called the department of game and wildlife and they gave me the number of a wildlife rehabilitator, but he never returned my call.

Thanks for your video! I raise Calls and Runners here in Canada but have a lot of trouble with my Call hatch rate. Did you stop turning your eggs at any point prior to them starting to hatch (i.e. lockdown)?

We open the incubator every day almost & give a light occasional misting, we left it rotating the eggs up until they pipped.

Hi Kit. Really enjoyed the video. The ducklings are gorgeous. Do you find that Call ducks are really noisy? Would you recommend them? I have chickens and quail but am sorely tempted to get some ducks too. Hope little Sid is still going strong. Mags

Hi Mags, thank you I’m glad you enjoyed the video. The call ducks can get a little noisy but not to bad really, I would definitely recommend them as long as your neighbours won’t get annoyed with a little noise every now and then. Sid is still going strong but still very small. Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best 🌱🌱🐣😊🌱🌱

Hello from Montana! For the first time this year I tried an incubator to hatch my Calls. I had the Farm Innovator 4250. Instructions suggested humidity at 55% and temperature at 99.5. They all developed great until week 3, then stopped. Twice this happened. I finally gave up and put the few I got from a third clutch under my chickens. I have no idea what I did wrong. Any ideas? What kind of incubator do you have? Is there an air circulator in it?

  • @GrowWithKit

It’s just a cheap incubator, it does have a fan in the top. I’m not sure what went wrong, we keep ours at 37.c 99.5f and keep the water level topped up, we didn’t check the humidity. Hope you have better luck next time.

any eggs it's good to know the ambient humidity in your area, and whether it's consistent or rise/falls dramatically. I'm just north of you in BC and our amb. humiidity is only 15 to 20% at 3,000 feet , so I can't even use my Borotto pump; it only operates above 32 % humidity, but since ducks need much more, load the watere up and buy a 5 buck humidity heat guage.

@@joycenesselhauf1220 a humidity gauge is a few dollars and well worth it, and I use two to double check, esp. for duck eggs. and keep written records.

Lack of humidity can cause the membrane to contract and the ducklings perish. That would be my guess.
