We think we are going to give them a little duck house in our garden chicken run area, not sure about free ranging them lol

I have four call duck eggs in my Italian incubator. I'm told you DO NOT feed them "medicated" feed. they also take cold a lot better than chicks. I use a brooder and attach a cardboard box run to it, so any bird can pick and choose their heat exposure. I don't use tubs for just that reason: they can't get away from the heat.

Yes ducks should never be given medicated chick starter. They need feed formulated specifically for ducks or you can add nutritional yeast to regular chick starter. We have found that ducks ween off heat indoors in a couple weeks. If you use a heat lamp they can get away from the heat. Even though we turn lamp off completely after a few weeks, we like to ween them off the heat exposure. We will adjust the lamp so 1/4 of the brooder is getting the heat radius. And then as time goes by we keep slowly raising it until no longer needed. We use a 2x2 piece of wood inbetween the floor and ceiling and we can raise it up as much as we need.

It’s a paint roller tray with a paint roller tray’s grate. They are actually for sale right next to each other at the hardware store they were meant to go together. It works out so perfectly and keeps the shavings very clean & dry!

You should get at least a pair so that they are stressed and lonely. They grow up to be only 1 pound, so they stay very small. Good pets. We just posted a short video today of what they look like at 1.5 months all, almost fully feathered =] check it out
