Excellent tips Cal but, I especially enjoy your stories from the past. Thanks very much for sharing Cal, very much reminds me of the times spent with my father and then, much later, with my sons. Tight lines!

Cal, Hat Creek is my "Happy Place." Though I've never caught anything larger than a 16 inch Brookie, I love that Creek! I catch them on mini crawlers, spinners, and just about any fly on a bubble. Dad's, be sure to bring your kids and flashlights, as you can take your kids to the free Subway Cave lava Tube, and Lassen National Park is only a few miles away.

@@FHSTackle Update...I sold my house to a guy who came to my door and made me an offer i couldn't refuse.....I now live 15 minutes from Hat Creek. Just checked out the campgrounds and day use today and should have put my pole in the car...... finished off the Sunday drive though cassel and hit Baum Lake which only had about 4 people on it.......going fishing tomorrow.....:) Only good thing about covid is it forced me to make a life's decision i don't think i will ever regret...Love being a mountain person wouldn't go back to Riverside Ca for a million bucks.

Hey man do you said the trophy trout in that fly fishing only section are hard to catch, but in what way did you mean? Like they just fight hard and snap fly line easily or are they picky and don’t bite often?

Love watching your episodes! The black and yellow panther Martin brings back some great childhood memories fishing the truckee river south of downtown along 89 as a kid. My first panther Martin was given to me from a local grandfather/ great grandfather (family friend) we were told this was his only lure used to catch fish in that stretch and was he right! Dating back 37 + years ago..... fish on

I grew up just outside of Cassel. Used to ride my bike down most every evening in the summer to fish the powerhouse where it dumps into Baum Lake. Mostly fish with tiny hooks and fresh water shrimp we caught in a stream just behind the lake. Also used to catch lots of fish on fly behind a spinning reel and a clear bobber, in the forebay, just above Baum Lake.
