I've been using Pautzke salmon eggs since about 1981. I've caught many fish in Hat Creek with the salmon eggs. I started going up to Hat Creek about the same time. Been fishing there every year since. I use 2lb test later in the year when the water flow diminishes

I've fished every inch of Hat Creek up and down hiway 89 and 44 (since I actually lived there for years). Last visit was horrifying, severe damage, burned hillsides, homes and businesses completely gone. Absolutely tragic.

Yeah it sucks and is tragic but the forests in California are designed to burn pretty regularly. Looking back through history the state has always had huge droughts leading to a lot of forest fires before man was ever doing anything to the environment. I mean heck, the giant sequoias in Yosemite can’t even reproduce without forest fires. That tells you right there how regular and common forest fires are to middle to northern part of the state. That is one huge risk to living in forested mountains in a state that has drought most of the year.

Nice fishing! One thing I've noticed about planters is they're very heavily spotted whereas wild fish loose the spots towards the belly and the face.

Hahahaha I always out fish any fly fisherman I’m ever around. Thing is I actually use some hand tied jigs and flies but never on a fly rod. One time I was shad fishing and I literally was catching 10 fish to everyone that three fly guys were able to land and I heard them say amongst themselves that they were going to bring the spinning year the next day!! Lol

Bro look, I do generally fish with artificials and CnR most of what I catch but a tug is a tug! I admit a couple times a year I truck chase because I know of a couple places where they plant monster trout that are raised in ponds and actually have pink meat but I still fish with artificials for them just to get some tug on my line. The tug is my drug man!

Why dont you stop trying to tell the ones catching the fish how to fish? Thats so annoying to know what you are doing and to have someone over your shoulder "take your time, thats a big fish, take your time" Let the people fish ffs
