Great video, as always. Times and stats (TLDR: 56.7 cents per mile, 5 minute fill, 6 minute wait, 44 minute and 13 mile drive - so $7.37 spent to get to and from the station). 8:29pm 6.7 mile drive - 65 MPGe 8:51pm pulling up - 1 car wait. 8:57pm pull into bay. 4 miles remaining. 4.984 kg x $36 = $179.42 9:04pm finished 320 miles total Added 316 miles at 56.7 cents per mile. 63.4 miles per kg is about 65 MPGe. 5 minute fill, 22 minute drive there, 6 minute wait, likely 22 minute drive home - should you subtract the drive home from the added range .... ? Surprised to see Torrance offline, that’s a liquid hydrogen pipeline supply from a refinery over the road? Should be the most reliable, no trucks needed. I’d be interested on your thoughts on some of the buyback and legal action rumors from Reddit’s Mirai sub. People are pretty fed up at being $20k underwater after just a year in some cases. I also see people 'double dip' the value of that fuel card, they count it as $15,000 off the price on the Mirai, and also count it as free fuel - it can't be both - it's worth noting it's only gets you around 25k miles, maybe 30k miles, and you could go that distance for a lot less than $15k in a different vehicle.

I think the main problem with the infrastructure is that the CA funding was for upfront capital costs of the stations rather than for the fuel itself. So there was lots of motivation getting a station built but not so much keeping it running or supplying fuel at a cost comparable to gasoline in $/mile. Here in BC, where the funding mechanism is different, H2 costs $C14/kg and gasoline costs $C2.09/litre. Works out to be $0.14/km for my Hyundai Nexo and $0.21/km for something like a BMW X3 at 10 l/100km.

BC Hydrogen is a green/grey mix though, not fully green (see HTEC's FAQ - no mention of %'s). I don't know what the price would be if truly green from additional renewables, which are the rules in the US for the green hydrogen subsidy, would not surprise me if it shot up to closer to California prices - it's climbing in Germany and Japan too. EV is 2 to 3 cents per km in BC.

WRT the La Mirada station on Beach Blvd, the station developer (Iwatani) finished construction on six stations all of which use NEL Hydrogen equipment. Four of those stations have opened but the equipment has had quality issues and uptime has suffered. It has been such a problem that Iwatani has filed suit against NEL. So until NEL fixes the problems at the four open stations, La Mirada (and Santa Ana) will likely not open. Also, those seven Shell stations that closed in NorCal a few months ago also used NEL Hydrogen equipment.

When the hydrogen got to $36 dollars per kg I parked my car. I didn't buy a vehicle with the$15,000 fuel card .... I did the math and bought a gen 1 for $8000 from a private party as I don't drive much and I thought it was too risky to invest $30-$40 k. I guess I'm lucky I didn't lose as much so far. Unbelievable the fueling stations are charging 6 times more to refuel with processed water. It's going to be even worse when Trump's takes office and fuel prices drop in half... Were will hydrogen price go ? I see a big class action lawsuit coming. The new station supposed to come to Camarillo and Ventura have not started yet either. The whole thing's about to implode within one year when all these hydrogen cars have lost their fuel card balance..... Nobody wants to pay $36 for an equivalent gallon of fuel.... It's totally insane !! I'm patiently waiting for the fuel prices to drop...or will the whole thing go bust that is the question. I just bought a new Nissan Aria by the way... Free fuel for one year through Evgo.

Hydrogen for passenger cars was a scam from the start. It takes almost 50 kWh to produce 1 Kg of Hydrogen through Electrolysis. That gets you about 60 miles of range per Kg of Hydrogen. A Model 3 RWD is the closest EV to this Mirai. It has a 60 kWh battery and goes about 200 miles with 50 kWh of energy. Hydrogen is just too inefficient and never will be able to overcome that issue. Toyota and now Honda will continue to scam their most loyal customers until they wise up and abandon them.
