Pretty much confirms what everyone already knew: Power Rangers has no value as an ip outside of MMPR. It was an impulse purchase Hasbro regretted. Outside of the Disney brands, Transformers and surprisingly GI Joe Hasbro is likely done with collector toylines.

I have a hard time believing that Hasbro would license out the Power Rangers toy rights if they had any serious plans to produce a new Power Rangers series. The value of the Power Rangers brand is in the toys.

OK HEAR ME OUT!!!!! power rangers samurai was and still is a really popular season amongst people in my age group (gen z) we grew up during the neo saban era and honestly i think power rangers samurai is a good alternative to the surplus of mmpr stuff🤷🏾‍♂️

it's not the whole IP, just the toy making rights but since hasbro is cutting all ties with super sentai and toei, it will be up to playmates to work out a deal to make toys that use super sentai designs

That's not how that works. Playmates is essentially a subcontractor. They have the rights to whatever Hasbro extended to them in the deal they made.

Honestly the Playmates Voltron was pretty good. Would love to see a Megazord that size in that quality too.

I don't really want to be like the toku fandom hivemind but I remember in 2018 when you mentioned how Playmates was a possibility when Saban and Bandai could split up, and you mentioned your concern of "back to MMPR Season 1". Also "Sentai Forever! It's Woke!" at 2:53 the perfect OOC moment

You know what I'm fine with this. Playmates are a great toy company and I'm not mad about it being MMPR. Kinda excited and at least something is happening with the toys. Overall I see this a a win!

I agree, something is better than nothing as far as the toys go. There’s always the possibility that Playmates will exceed our expectations. My hope is that they will make something similar to those 6” basic Power Rangers figures that Hasbro put out. I would like figures that scale with Lightning Collection, even if the style is a bit different.

To be fair Playmates has higher quality toys and are priced way better than Hasbros. Hell, they're already licensing out some of their legacy brands to Basic Fun.

Playmates honesyly does a great job with TMNT. I am indifferent with them owning the toy brand, but I was really hoping Hasbro would pick up their gear to improve their products and overall brand. They had potential, and I was hoping they would make entire Power Rangers seasons unrelated to Sentai.

Bandai let Hasbro have it in the first place for the same reason Hasbro's giving it to Playmates now.

I feel like the main issue is that "collectors" don't collect when it comes to Power Rangers. There's a "famous" quote in the Transformers fandom. "I hate it, I'm gonna buy it." It extends to other toylines as well. G.I. Joe fans HATED the Classified Series when it came out, but they still bought the figures and that line started to thrive. For Power Rangers, no one wants to buy anything that's more than $5 and thus the line didn't turn a profit.

I just really hope we see more upgraded/collector grade megazords/mecha like we saw with ZAP or even last years Kyoryuzin full action figure. It helps get older figures over trying to find a good second hand toy. Looking forward to what Playmates brings to the table though!

I just to don't care. If it's just MMPR, then I'm sticking with Sentai and Rider. Power Rangers is like the Simpsons where they have been milked with the MMPR nostalgia.

It would be a miracle if Hasbro sells ALL the PR rights to Playmates, and also have Playmates remake the PR series that starts off with a non-themed PR team (something like Goranger but original).

@@dylansharp8471 Because PR isn't about one theme, but many themes. I wanted a non-themed PR team as a starting point for a PR remake series (something like Goranger, but original). Having the first PR team with a theme of some kind would cause problems and would hold the franchise back. PR isn't like Batman, Spiderman, Spawn, and other American heroes.

Well Playmates likely will because MMPR isn't really in the place that it can last more than 1 year on shelves before retailers get angry and demand new stuff to stock.

Hasbro a toy company passing off the toy rights, I am somehow happy about this given how bad some of Hasbro toys have been the last few years, tho I wish they were give more love to other PR shows oh well

Power rangers became more or less a joke in the toy department I gave up the lightning collection just to get super sentai super shodo collection and I don’t regret it. Hasbro became a joke with it and what not

Playmates has done a great job with TMNT toys including paint apps. This could be a very sensible move for the kid-centered toys.

This will likely exclusively be kid-focused toys, like the TMNT Mutant Mayhem stuff. Expect 5" figures. I hope Playmates doesn't attempt collector's grade figures. Their TMNT attempts have been laughably bad. Also, this isn't unusual for Hasbro. Super 7 makes toys for both G.I. Joe and Transformers, while McFarlane does G.I. Joe. And yes, kids do still watch MMPR. Pluto TV has been rerunning MMPR-RPM constantly since September and every day on the Power Rangers subreddit there's somebody asking where they can get MMPR figures for their kids.

Bandai sold it to Hasbro and Hasbro wants nothing to do with them. Hopefully Playmates will bring them back.

@spideymatt93 MMPR was the only time Power Rangers was a cultural phenomenon. Its marketed because of its popularity and pop culture significance, not the other way around.

"Nobody cares about Timeforce" True but like look at Transformers and how they've branched out in doing things that aren't G1. Yeah they've got evergreen designs that are reminiscent of G1 but those evergreen-style toys are mostly cheap ones you find at dollar stores instead of big retailers. The ones that are big retailers are Earthspark and Legacy. The latter of which tackles multiple different eras of TF. And then we're soon getting the TF One toys. Hell, their logic when making toys isn't really always doing G1 because it's the most recognizable. It's making something cool that a kid will buy even if they don't know it. That's the logic I wish Hasbro did with Power Rangers. MMPR isn't really only used because it's the most popular but because it's the closest they have to an evergreen team that can work anywhere. That's really the core thing behind the decision. Cause like if we ever go get the reboot and it becomes a success then that'll be the new evergreen team that Hasbro will always use. Just like the 2007 Transformer designs for the longest time.

Except Transformers had wildly successful eras besides G1 whether it be the Beast Era, Unicron Trilogy or Bayverse and thus proved it can stand the test of time and be reinvented just like TMNT. which Power Rangers hasn't had despite both Saban and Hasbro trying in the last decade to move the franchise beyond 93 everything that isn't MMPR flops. There's a reason Hasbro dumped it right after they tried to put real money in it with Cosmic Fury. It's a one-hit wonder that only kept limping along because it could be made for pennies.

Playmates does a fantastic job with TMNT. It's gonna be interesting to see what they do with PR.

i think most of Hasbro's financial problems stem from the pandemic and aftermath. the one thing i do hope is the playmates keep the six inch scale so they look good next to any that Hasbro made and make in the future.

I do understand from the business perspective how Hasbro has fumbled PR. That I get. Doesn't mean we as fans should really be happy about it. Fans should be allowed to voice their displeasure. I do think licensing out the IP is smart for now. Though I do wonder if we'll later find out they're gonna license out the entertainment rights to a studio to make a new show. Cause the reboot likely still isn't happening for a long time. And might never happen since contracts might be up soon. I'd also imagine Playmates wanting a new show to also tie-in with the new toys like how they have two separate lines for TMNT. One for the 80s show and one for Mutant Mayhem. So I'd at least hope Playmates gets Hasbro to make a new show so they can sell new fresh stuff alongside the nostalgic stuff.

as far as the toys, i wished Hasbro actually did more with them given transformers they could have done a lot. but i feel like playmates may have a better quality with the action figures, with stuff they worked on in recent times like TMNT, GodzillaXKong, Miraculous ladybug, Star trek, and Voltron. they could possibly produce something good here

No it's that nothing outside of Mighty Morphin was selling. and Hasbro already has a brand that was doing what Power Rangers was doing and more: Transformers.

Idk what I’m supposed to feel about this… I mean, okay, but Hasbro REALLY didn’t know what to do for the toys since. What matters more is what they do now for future entertainment and cinematic purposes whether to continue adaptations or going on their own. Hopefully Playmates doesn’t fumble the PR toy designs. Especially we’re gonna have to start from MMPR again, which does suck for most people since people are fatigued about it.

I’m interested to see what they do with it. Playmates does have experience making combining robots, a major one being Voltron for both the recent reboot and the 1984 version, of which was a TOEI design! While that Voltron wasn’t perfect, it was certainly better than ZAP in my personal opinion, and it had sounds too. I’d like to see them make megazords that are the size of their Voltron combiner.

I feel mixed about this as seen with their Voltron line they can produce nice well painted megazords, but the basic figures will definitely drop in quality, paint is usually scuffed and they have awful leg joints

When it comes to the "basic" toy line, I feel like it's okay. As long as Hasbro keeps doing the Lightning Collection line for collectors, I'll be happy. I just want representation for every season at least, even if it is only a few rangers per season. I've heard rumors of a big reboot for PR so I hope that is still coming and still being done by Hasbro as well. Although it is weird for a company primarily known for making toys to license out another company to make toys...

Yeah the only thing that gives me caution is that playmates doesn’t really have a collectors line, I know tmnt is basically outsourced to Neca for their collectible figures so idk

I'm honestly of 2 minds though. Cause it's great to finally get PR toys again, honestly sooner than I expected, but from what I've heard playmates isn't really the best option many fans would have wanted to take over PR. Because they've got their own QC problems too. Edit: I could be wrong because their offerings for $10 toys are better than Hasbro's. We also don't know if this means Hasbro will no longer make PR toys themselves. Like will Playmates only do kids toys and Hasbro work on collector-oriented toys? I'm honestly not sure but I'd at least like to hope that's the case. We'll definitely need to wait and see what other news we'll get later in the year regarding the brand. I can't imagine doing more MMPR toys aimed at kids because like we've already gotten plenty the past few years. Surely they can sprinkle in some stuff from other seasons. Even other dino seasons. Hell give us Cosmic Fury action figures since Hasbro never did.

Hasbro outsourcing to Playschool toys is not a bad thing. Basically Hasbro won’t have to spend so much money making toys, hoping to make a profit probably still be making those limited edition toys every now and then themselves, but financially it’ll be better for Hasbro. on the other hand with this outsourcing, the money they make off the toys from Playschool will go to other film projects for Power Rangers on Netflix with Hasbro so that’s something when it comes to the movies and shows, I have no clue what Hasbro is planning, but I hope it’ll be good if it’s politically correct I probably will not watch it though

Dosm no. Fans have had every right to be upset with Hasbro's handling of the brand at this point. The fact that they're giving playmates the licensing to make PR toys while good just further confirms to us as fans that Hasbro doesn't know what the hell they're doing when it comes to the brand. I've seen plenty of fans who are upset from this news that haven't been completely toxic at all. We're allowed to voice our greevances at a company that has been royally messing up a brand their customers love. Keep in mind this is directed at the higher management. The suits. Not the people below who actively work on it. It 100% morally correct to be angry at those in power. Plenty of other Hasbro IP fandoms are as well.

I assume it will depend on how much original material they use .Because mmpr - dino fury is super sentai. It could be that the lightning collection will be based on new rangers (like the omega rangers). All we can really do is wait since we don't know what the plan for power rangers in the future is. Some people say the reboot will happen, and some say it won't happen .

So far nothing confirms Playmates is doing any collector-based toys for PR. Which is good because I've heard their collector lines aren't great. And Hasbro hasn't been doing a good job with their kids toy lines in any of their brands. So they'll likely bring back LC eventually. It lasted for 5 years so clearly it sold well. But recent problems and lack of any media caused it to be on ice. The lack of media part I don't get because G.I. Joe doesn't have any besides the comics. But I guess they want to have a big splash once a new show is ready. Doubtful it'll be the reboot. That thing is likely dead at this point.

@@clintsaines9274 This isn’t the first time Hasbro put a toy line on hiatus. They did the same with marvel legends a decade ago. LC at least lasted longer than other Hasbro figures lines. Like Indiana Jones, Ghost Busters, and that NBA line. So it’s safe to say it sold well since it lasted 5 years. But the constant QC and inconsistency, along with Hasbro being uncertain with how to handle PR right now made them put it on ice. If it doesn’t come back by 2026 I’ll definitely be concerned.

Yeah uh that's not really a good look if that's how you think customers are. Cause if fans/customers aren't happy with the company and don't buy their toys than the corporation suffers. But at the same time it doesn’t take away from the fact that even tho Samurai isn’t 1 to 1 Shinkenger it doesn’t have potential to become great. I mean they can do comic stories about the lore of the original Samurai/Jaydens dad, play around with the lore of the Shogun forms, do a full crossover with rpm. Since we are thinking from a business perspective there is one major problem with relying on MMPR. Retailers like fans are gonna want new items to stock. Power Rangers is not at that point yet where they can sell the same exact toys from last year and be fine. Even if it's MMPR. Retailers like Target and Walmart are gonna want new items that aren't just the same MMPR characters. It's why Bandai had that Super branding for seasons because they needed an incentive for retailers who didn't know any better to buy their new stock of toys. So say 2025 is all MMPR. By 2026 they're gonna need to do a different team. MMPR doesn't have enough material (especially on the ranger side) to last more than a year. Megazords sure, but not in the $10 action figure line where they've only got 7 rangers to work with and they don't have a lot of forms. I still think Cosmic Fury toys should have been something Playmates should be doing.

@FireFury190 They could greatly extend an MMPR line with material from the comics alone, let alone the vast amount of stuff from the show's three seasons they could drip feed. An MMPR line could probably go on for 3+ years and be fine.

McFarlance likely isn't taking over the LC line. Hasbro will likely bring it back it by idk 2026. They let Marvel Legends take a break in the past and brought it back. LC might be the same. At least unlike Ghost Busters and Indiana Jones this line lasted 5 years. So it obviously does sell. But the QC and inconsistency between rangers likely caused them to put that line on hold for now to fix it.
