How about just canning Secret Lairs? They kinda lost their allure at this point.

I definitely started buying proxies after magic 30. Craziest part was when I realized that they were better quality than real cards

They asked $1000 for 4 non tournament legal packs. Why did they think that was a grand idea? There are no suitable words to describe the magnitude of their greed and arrogance.

"too aggressive" with their pricing of Magic 30th, that's one hell of an understatement. Charging $1000 for 3 packs that would have been profitable at a $15-$25 price point, that's an insult to your customers.

@@MHardcore Playing cards are also always perfect quality with no printing errors that are clearly from being cheap as fuck. Hardly apples to apples if were being fair but still. The whole point is to have "CARDS" that are worth something, its absurd that sometimes the card stock is terrible. Or foil warping an insane amount.

Anyone else think the Secret Lair arts have gone off the deep end? I haven't been interested in one in a long time.

I like parts of the Secret Lair idea but yes, their card selection AND art styles have left much to be desired lately. Can they please STOP offering everything in either cereal box, spraypaint graffiti, and psychedelic, acid trip styles?

At least they admit, but I'm not biting until I see results.

What should have been a celebration of 30 years was nothing but a slap in the face to the players. Seriously there was that scam that was the anniversary 'packs' and that's it. As far as I'm aware there was no events or any product for casual players to celebrate the game outside of maybe local stores doing stuff. It is a catastrophic failure because it cut out literally 100% of the player-base to appease super rich collectors. You have to celebrate the players that keep interest in the game not the people hoarding cards because they're worth something.

That Shivan Dragon bears a striking resemblance to the dragon art on the 1977 basic dungeons and dragons manual, an homage that I respect. It's a classic look.

The craziest thing about MTG 30th to me is that they thought a $1000 price tag was reasonable for gold border cards no less. Loads of people are already fed up with the reserved list and the pricing on a lot of classic cards. Instead of actually doing something about that they instead reprint that garbage as gold border essentially paying insane prices for "official" proxies. I'll just go on a Chinese website and have them custom print me some black Lotus and Moxes if I want non-tournament legal cards, thanks. And ill do it for less than 1/10 the price.

I was thinking Giant Solifuge, but I'm unsure why that would ever get reprinted. (It does match the red/green colors the art seems to lean toward, though.)

You said "Hello Kitty Secret Lair" three times. It's happening now.

The thing that gets me about the Magic 30 packs is if they had just made it a mass produced product, sold it at standard booster pack pricing and marketed it as a chance to go back to the beginning and give new players a chance to experience the feel of opening alpha and beta packs was like while keeping then non legal but allowing them to be used as proxies if you own the actual card or for kitchen table play the things would have sold like crazy. Who ever decided how the product should work should be fired as should who ever green lighted it.

This reminder of the kitties just makes me sadder. I couldn't get it because it was attached to a $300 bundle.

The enormous distain that came from the majority of the fan base in response to the 30th Anniversary Set should have been Hasbro's first clue.

Especially at the expense of a community? Name another pay to win game in 2023 that is acceptable and not abhorrent. You essentially cant, unless its a MTG clone-type game. And isnt hearthstone online better 'market' experience as well? lol

I keep saying it. 30th anniversary should have been a new mystery booster draft box. It could of been so many fun, unique and even rare cards. $150 per box and LGS locations would get the product to sell and for 30th anniversary draft events. This is what the true anniversary should have been. A celebration for players to enjoy; not a collector's item

they definitely would've sold because there's so many terrible consumers who can't control themselves when it comes to this game. This is why they even came up with the idea in the first place. $300+ for a masters box!? Hell...why not $1000! Hell...why not make it FOUR PACKS?! *rubs hands together*

If Wizards wants to make right with the 30th anniversary debacle, they could release like Arabian Nights, Antiquities and Alliances proxy packs for $10 a pack. Imagine if they re-released those in 15-card packs that you could draft. I would have a TON of fun drafting those sets even if they WERE just fake cards.

I don't even think it was just the price. Not only was it too much, but it was random of what u would get & on top of that no legal to use outside of what u would use proxy cards for. No value other then maybe re-selling it. Even then it would be near impossible to push the price up more. They could have done so much better on the theme of the power 9 but they took the laze way & just reprinted in the worst way.

The art style of the card you suspect to be Tuvasa is Art Nouveau.

Hey, another idea about what might be intteresting in a future year is an unniversary. Make a set that is all un- style cards that are based on each card from alpha or something like that. And we would want it on a non usually celebrated anniversary like the 32nd anniversary or they could even go with something like a 32.75 unniversary to make it even more un- styled.

I just opened a box of Dominaria Remastered, and the nostalgia was strong. So much fun, it's what M30 should have been.

This is the first video that I have watched from The Magic Historian. I found myself subscribing within the first 90 seconds. The mildly awkward, quirky, and goofy personality was such a delight. Continue to be genuine!

With the fact that all the multivers will be involve in March of the Machine (so too much charaters to give a carte to each of them), I guess the manga style secret lair teaser/maybe bluff about what will happend to charaters that will not get their own card in the set.

My ideal product would be a collector's edition of all cards through the urza block. At even $500-800 they'd have my money. There just needs to be something unique, substantial, and at least relatively affordable to make up for this busted MTG 30 event.

Shivan may not be that strong but it is iconic. The first deck I ever played vs was running that. The sort of card that brings back memories...

Minor correction about the playtest cards but: -They don't print stickers and paste them on cards anymore. Other than the bad feel of ruining existing cards, it's a waste of time. They know print directly onto cheap card stock. -They don't look like that anymore. They can now automate it so that it automatically gives something very close to a real card. This is what they looked like in the past and what they're appealing to, though.

Secret Lair bug makes me think of Blightbeetle, one of my favorite insect cards.

By breaking the spirit of the Reserved List, the pricing was over by 1000 as the product should not be in print. You want to know how they could have done this? Make these oversized cards or mini cards....

That's great, if you own a store. Everyone else needs to proxy the lairs if they want to play them. I've wanted new art for the lairs forever. If that's they way to get them. stores and Hasbro can kiss my ass. Can't appreciate something if it's impossible to get.

Just got back from Magic Con Philly and the FNM sealed was a con job. No Promo Foils and when I complained - I returned my convention mystery pack and the tourney personnel gave me heavily played crap FNM cards. Freaking joke.

Wonderful. I'm happy it backlashed hard on them. M30 literally made me quit Magic for months and working on my own duel card game ever since. I guess looking back, I should actually be somewhat thankful for them opening my eyes WHAT kind of greedy bastards they are. That being said, I still wish MTG and ofc your channel the best. Thanks for keeping us up-to-date and I hope MTG will be in a healthier position again at some point. I'm losing my hopes WotC is able to handle it though and hope some other company will take over, sooner or later.

Too aggressive pricing for MTG 30 is a massive understatement. It was one of the absolute worst ideas they have ever put into print. Not only were they fishing for whales, but they did it with proxies. IMO, the actual MTG 30 product should have been Mystery Boosters 2.0 with a slot to have a chance at a proxy that they sold as MTG 30. I think that would have sold like gangbusters and would have been better received by the community.

mtg speculators buy everything in fear of missing out to be a millionaire. The only reason it sold so bad is simply because most mtg player do not have $1100 to buy it lol! 100% sure they would if they had that money but they already gambled everything away.

I have more than enough money to have bought a few cases. Product sucked at that price. So did not buy.

But do they truly have to care if people are upset if they all keep buying the product?

Poison tolerance should make it a reduction of poison counters you get from each application of them. IE if you have a tolerance of 2, it would take getting hit with 3 poison before you get one added to you. Also shivan dragon's art is iconic and beautiful, and this is a vulgar, low effort mockery. Much like the company itself's transformation. (no offense meant to the artist, the stylized look is striking, but it should never be the shivan dragon)

The 30th was bad, really bad. I have seen an artist royalty statement.
