As an Indian American, whether on Patriot Act or in his stand up, I loved his super specific Indian/hindi references that literally no one else would get. He doesn't vanilla down his content.

@@martinvanburen4578 I know what you mean, but a lot of first gen immigrants only know how to act because of their surroundings. At home, their parents speak with another accent, and they don’t speak with the same accent, so they simply adapt to whatever they are around and what they hear outside of the home. He has been very open about all his Hip Hop and NBA influences as a kid. Also, he acts a lot like many Indian Americans. I think it’s just jarring for people to hear sometimes. My husband is an Indian immigrant, and when he came to the US, all the people he hung out with and met at first were Black, so he started adapting words not even knowing they were specific to Black people in the US. It’s such a complex thing.
Just saw him at radio city in NYC and his new show was absolutely phenomenal. Amazing guy, smart, and funny as hell. Such a pleasure to hear him speak
I’m just over halfway through and I don’t want it to end. This is such a great conversation!

I feel like I normally don't comment but I dropped Netflix once Hasan's show was cancelled, he's so smart/funny and makes me feel so much smarter when he explains complicated subjects 😤

I feel like Hassan needs to go tour Africa. We can be sensitive about our culture even the shitty stuff, he has found a way to say Ish better, but still educate you. Aaah love him, love his craft.
He is so right about everything, but particularly the stuff about cancelling people over things they did and said as a child. We all did and said stupid af stuff as kids. There’s science that is so clear that we aren’t mentally developed at that age. Holding someone accountable at the age of 40 for something they tweeted at 12 makes absolutely no sense. UNLESS that person has continued that behavior their whole life.

Powerful dialogue! Thanks for sharing. It was great to hear about the link between India and Japan towards the end, about respect, because the wonderful law of the Lotus taught by the Buddha found it's ultimate expression after traveling through Afghanistan, into the vast deserts in current day western China, and into Japan, which opened the path for the world. The oldest record of Buddhist pilgrimage into east Asia actually had Iranian names. They could have been traders from Samarkand in modern day Uzbekistan, or from closer to the Indus river valley, or from Turfan in the Taklamankan deserts. When the Chinese scholars later returned west towards India, there was peace between the migrants and the diverse nations they had to cross to reach there. Some leaders even welcomed them graciously! Today they are a warzone. And we here in the FL Everglades only know all this thanks to my teacher, who is from Japan. I'm curious to learn how that migration parallels with the history of Hindu and Muslim cultures during that same span of time. I appreciated that your interview had a broad scope of discourse. An awareness of the history of the world truly frees us from the prejudice and bias that labels a certain culture in a narrow way. I'm encouraged to advance with that realization. Peace!

Interesting. Im afghan. The famous huge buddha statues in bamiyan ,afghanistan was shot off and defaced by the taliban but prior to the 70s was a great tourist attraction. Our people are very respectful although I attribute that to the teachings of Islam which commands us to be respectful of people of all faiths and backgrounds. Afghan ppl are also very hospitable people.

@@ye23. So true! I've always appreciated how indispensable was the Muslim scholarship to the Renaissance of science and the arts. I learned of it from my mentor Daisaku Ikeda, who has published dialogues with Muslim thinkers like Majid Tehranian from Iran, Nur Yalman from Turkey, and Abdurrahman Wahid from Indonesia. Our philosophical traditions are actually much more intertwined than those occupied with maintaining the status quo would suggest. Yes, the statues of the Buddha were a relatively late phenomenon, influenced by Greek art at around the turn of the millennium in Gandhara region. Buddhism started to replace Zoroastrianism in Afghanistan region much before, around 150 BCE, with the reign of King Ashoka, who renounced warfare and gave aid to all religious communities. By about 150 CE, with the reign of King Kanishka, who was also a patron of Buddhism, there was a most surprising level of intercultural exchange. There is art from that time where traders from a Buddhist scene were wearing boots from the Eurasian Steppes region, a coat similar to the Greeks, while playing instruments from India. We have a lot more to learn from each other than we realize! Thanks for writing man. Peace!
Miss his show!

CA state workers are working for lesser pay up front to take care of their families… all of them. Private sector almost always pays more. The pay off for working state service (especially in Sacramento where there are so many state workers) is the guaranteed pension. Making less money now to have money later. ETA: every single congress person or senator that has been or is in public office should be barred from holding stocks, trading. After they leave office there should be moratorium on them doing anything.
