instead of whipping out playing cards she should have had a serious discussion of why he was there and what she needs from him in order to help him. Shes no better than he is with the bells and whistles. Playing him like that is not going to get him to open up to you.

Therapists are supposed to illuminate the parts of our psyche that we ignore. Harvey is seen here lying and putting up defenses that he refuses to acknowledge, so she’s creatively using poker as a tool to help him confront those walls. Serious discussions don’t always lead to improvement, the patient has to want it. She is trying to get him there. Playing a game also takes the seriousness out of that self confrontation through the act of sublimation. And it’s something that Harvey can understand (because at the core of his character is his desire to win). She’s tailoring the therapy to her patient, and doing a fine job of it.

Therapists will change up what they do for each client. Harvey has always had an ego problem and doesn't lack for confidence however all of that is a wall and façade What Paula is trying to do is prove to Harvey that he isn't as good at hiding things as he thinks he is, (aka the 'Tells' that Paula believes Harvey to have) Harvey however doesn't really do touchy feely. It's one of those "If that's the game you wanna play, then lets go"

@@Tcrumpenthere's absolutely no way that a therapist will go into this kind of "game" just to prove the client is wrong. sure u can confront the person, but even when u could assume they are lying u have to treat that as a symptom and not go full "you're gonna do what i say until you tell me the truth". this method will most likely provoke your pacient to never come back. it is completely unethical. but cool scene for the show though.
