Harvesting yeast with a SS Brewtech chronical fermenter 🚀* EXPERIMENT* 🚀

Ғылым және технология

Quick yeast harvest (US-05) with a SS Brewtech chronical fermenter.
The yeast is going directly into the wort, without washing the yeast...it went off like a rocket!
Again, it's an experiment!
I recently upgraded the chronical with the butterfly valves. So easy to clean and sanitary. I love it!
Cheers and all the best!

That's awesome being able to pull the yeast like that, from one and tossing it in to the other.

I'm just in the process of doing the same experiment, captured the yeast today but have not pitched it yet. It will be in the refrigerator for a couple of days before I get to brewing a new batch. Hope it all works out. Great video, cheers!

Great stuff! It would essentially be just like racking the beer off the yeast cake, and racking the wort onto the yeast cake. Definitely will be fine and as you see, super faster fermenting since the yeast are just a roaring! Cheers!

Enjoy your videos! Just a suggestion: you could combine footage from brew day, fermentation, and tasting, all in one video upload. Cheers from Canada

Glen, I have started to do what Tiny from Offtap Brewing does and throw my wort onto the yeast cake and it ferments very fast and with no off flavors, I also store a jar in the fridge with different types of yeast including the small amount of trub in it for later, as long as you sanitize you can't go wrong, after a while they say you should wash the yeast with water in 30 mins time about 3cm of trub sits in the bottom of the jar and the rest of the watery liquid is then poured off into a jar and it become almost white in color as the yeast settles to the bottom......cheers Glen and Happy Yeastys

Really, really nice, just love the chronical, but you should use mr. malty to find out how much yeast you should pitch, because that seemed like too much! :P

Great video.. I have ungraded my Chronical with a butterfly dump valve, how did you use the racking arm with you racking dump valve? Thanks

  • @PerBuer
    @PerBuer7 жыл бұрын

It might be a good idea to dump in several rounds. First dump the trub and the lame yeast, then you dump/harvest the good yeast which you then propagate then at least you dump the stragglers (if any). At least that is what my pro friends do. Cheers, Per.

Hi! I like your channel very much. What kind of disinfectants do you take? I see that you spray with it, but do not rinse with water. Is this not necessary?

LJonsen Hi! I use Starsan or Saniclean, both products aren't necessary to rinse with water. It's a no rinse sanitizer! Cheers and thanks for the comment!

You don't need to wash the yeast. You actually shouldn't. The yeast will be stressed and will eventually die becoming food for other microbes. If you're sure your yeast is not contaminated or affected in any way, just pour it. But it will come out together with mostly proteins and trub. If you want to start pure on your own yeast, you need to grow it.

You could have used about 1/3 of that amount. not shocked that it took off so quickly. when you repitch that much yeast it basically skips the growth phase and get's down to munching.
