Harvesting my garlic 2024

It’s time to harvest the garlic! I’ve placed them in ground on October 22, 2023. You have to have so much patience growing these, 9 months or more depending on the weather.
I purchased my seed garlic from botanical interest and also from our local garden center. I love purchasing locally as I am able to pick and choose which ones I wanted.
Its a long waiting game growing these but this is one of the veggies I’ll be growing for a very long time.

Thank you so much, I’ll be sticking to what I know for now and venture when I’m a little more brave 😊.

Hi there .. also in the PNW and I get my seed garlic at the garlic festival and have had really great results. I understand that the size of the clove you plant really affects the size of the head you get .... so a small clove results in small heads and a large clove gets you the larger heads. Also, the scapes need to be harvested as soon as they appear or the plant stops focusing on the head and focuses on the scapes which will eventually flower. And yes, lots of rain will badly affect your crop ... plant in well draining soil. My last crop rotted in the ground due to more rain than the soil could handle. Good Luck.

Hello neighbor 😊 thank you so much for the tip, I didn’t even know about a seed garlic festival! Definitely going to look into that. I’ll have to change things up with the soil for sure.

Are you talking about the north plains elephant garlic festival? Or is there a different one? I’m obsessed with growing garlic and I wanna go!

I'm just getting ready to pull mine, last year they were very small. About the size of one little clove. Hoping to get some bigger one this year. Glad you were able to get some good size ones!

Thank you, fingers crossed your harvest is bigger this year! I noticed planting the big cloves makes all the difference. Save the biggest cloves you get for next year ❤️
