I was just looking at the walnuts in a bag and wondering how so few are broken. Each one looked perfect. This gave a great insight into the remarkable process.

That's because the broken ones are separated out and sent out for ice cream, fruitcakes, coffee cakes, candy, etc. Really small pieces may also end up as feed for livestock. Even the shells are recycled. Gentile paint removal is often done using ground walnut shells.

I like the new format a lot better than the old format. I like to see from the beginning to the end. I will still watch older format because I am kind of an engineer at heart.

I've driven up California's Central Valley, where there is a significant portion of walnut groves. Thousands of acres of walnuts, avocados, and almonds. The nut industry uses a significant portion of California's water supply. California alone produces 75% of the world's almonds!

The trick to shelling walnuts. Soak nuts overnight in water, crack with the palm of hand on counter, on the seamless side of the nut. …. The shells are soft and crack easy.

The set-up costs must have been enormous! Use of water and energy is of course a factor here as with all food production, but the carbon footprint per bag say, is possibly acceptable!? Who knows? Very good and comprehensive video otherwise! Cheers

Very informative, it’s very clear why California has such a problem with water et cetera. So many heavy vehicles generating so much dust and destroying the cell soil bacteria et cetera. An enormous amount of energy and water is clearly used in the processing never mind all those vehicles and different machines.
