Harvest Right Oil Vacuum Pump - Oil Change Start to Finish - Uncut
If you are trying to decide if it is worth getting the cheapest vacuum pump for your Harvest Right freeze dryer but not sure what exactly is involved in changing the oil often, then this video is for you. Harvest Right has on their website that the oil needs to be changed every 4-5 runs and that it takes only 2-3 minutes. We decided to film an actual oil change and as you can see this video is 12:48 minutes long. Yes, the change itself is only 2-3 minutes but you have to filter the oil, manage containers, etc. The best tip ever was to freeze the oil before you filter it so the sludge and water stays at the bottom of the container and not bugger up the filter. I have an oilless pump and when they sent me a smaller hose to insert into the original my pump began to fail. They did acknowledge that that didn't work too well but not word about fixing the pump. So I am using the oiled pump that came with it and other than making a mess when changing the oil it i working well. My freeze dryer is older than yours but it works fine!.
Will a fat separator work instead of freezing? *...the kind used in cooking*

Give it a try. That might work. I like that any sediment drops to the bottom and freezes inside the water.
