Harsha Bhogle's Analysis of Australia and New Zealand's T20 WC Squad

Спорт

There is consistency in the squad selection of the Trans-Tasman countries for the T20 World Cup. Different in approach, they are always a force to reckon with in big tournaments. Here’s my analysis of Australia and New Zealand.

I don’t know why Hazelwood is so much underrated. Currently, he is the best bowler in Australia across all three formats. He is a very much improved T20 bowler in the last 3-4 years. So, if anyone of the famous pace trio has to be dropped, that should be Starc, not Hazelwood....

At the press conference India held after announcing the squad, Agarkar said that they don't have anyone to replace Hardik Pandya. This is so true; if he gets injured, there is no backup for him. Just look at Australia's fast bowling all-rounder options! India is carrying the same problem they've had during past World Cups: their batters can't bowl, and their bowlers can't bat.

Even Harsha has had to concede that Australia and NZ are well balanced sides who bring their A game to ICC events. And yet his review of the Indian team earlier tamely endorsed a side whose key players are short of form and long on experience. He has little to say on the selectors sticking to superstars despite their repeated failures in ICC events in the last decade. No mention of the sheer injustice done to Rinku Singh even after his exemplary performance over the last year. He has no queries about the selection of a spin heavy side ( four spinners in all including 2 allrounders) when playing more than 2 of them will be a luxury given India's batting frailties. Or about the pace line up which has two worthies( not Bumrah, of course) who have gone for more runs in this IPL than their rivals. The two best Indian pacers in the competition who were overlooked by the selectors are mentioned in passing , just in case. Of course, he worries about Sky batting at no.3 when a ready replacement is available in Samson because that would impact Pant's place in the side. And he doesn't address the elephant in the room- the two batting stalwarts at the top of the order whose inability to rise to the occasion in big ticket events has cost India a few trophies in recent times( and lest we forget ,a few promising players a place in the side ! ).It's a sign of how much Harsha has fallen from being 'the voice of Indian cricket ' to just acting as cheerleader for the influential who run this game today ! Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Little wonder that even Harsha doesn't dare place India among the favourites to lift the T20 World Cup this time !

If Agar plays at 8, they have proper batting till him, followed by Cummins at 9 and Starc’s six hitting power at 10. Just like the England white ball teams of late, this empowers them to go hard from the top and keep doing so without fear of consequences, which suits their batters. Starc Hazelwood Cummings, followed by Lyon/Zampa depending.... is set of words, that in the context of Cricket, go a long long way to winning you any match you play, included the the ones which come with nice bit of silverware. I think that Smith still have a LOT in him... he's had a bit of inconsistency, but I think he is a bit susceptible to others around him.... the kind of guy who, if say... Warner... Labuschagne.... maybe Khawaja... are not one song, can be a bit rattled... though turns up under those circumstances at the crunch.... but would still be, not just worth a punt, but a definite have to have, if he was from any other country. Fraser-McGurk is a phenomenon, an amazing new talent, showing all the things Australia's system for developing cricketers does right. He is an absolute monster, and there is no way possible, at all, he is not in that team, if, like Smith, he was from ANY other country. But when that bowling list starts with three names above, that alone, gives you the luxury of leaving players of the calibre of your Smith's and Fraser-McGurk's out, especially when you have the likes of Head, Marsh and Maxwell as options.... none of them are machines, when in the zone, like Smith, actually, though Head and Marsh are more consistent it seems of late, and none are the kind of magic monster Fraser-McGruk seems to be growing in to, either... Head on his day is pretty close, on both counts, though there is just something about a zone Smith, and there is an... electricity... a vibe... an aura, if you will.. of phenomenal promise around Roster. But those three in your batting options, to supplement the Starc Hazelwood Cummings show? You have a team which probably does not need Smith or Fraser-McGurk. Now tell me any other team in the world who could say they DON'T need a Smith or Fraser-McGurk? That right there is why Australia is so dangerous, and always contenders, in any competition, series, or any given day, any given match, against anyone, anywhere.

India can beat Australia in world cup on spin track , if india plays with kuldeep , chahal and jadeja these three can dismantle Aussie batting line up coz they all are hard hitters of the ball. none of them can play spin on surface which supports spinners. India can execute 19th Nov Plan in this world cup.
