Chepauk Ground boasts an unparalleled crowd; nearly every star cricketer and commentator has praised this audience for their extensive cricket knowledge and, more importantly, for their sportsmanship in applauding the opposing team. Although I hold a fondness for all the stadiums in my country, this one holds a special place in my heart.

Chennai is always different -they support good cricket ,they want their opposition to do well so that they can see even more better performance from their home team

Harsha sir always has the widest and most genuine childlike grin when he speaks about Chepauk, Chennai and CSK. Never fails to fill me with joy. Also, one of my favourite memories of Harsha sir with respect to IPL, was during the first or the second season. The pre-show had Gaurav, Siddhu and Harsha. The show usually had dances by the cheerleaders or a standup skit. One of the days a stand up comedian was making a joke about South Indians eating rasam that was outright stereotypical and derogatory. While the rest of the guests laughed, Harsha sir was the only one to politely point out how wrong and unacceptable it is and then went on to state the nice things. You have always been a great example on how to carry ourselves. You are still carrying the torch, speaking about social media decency and chiding fanatic behaviour when the need arises. Loads of love and respect sir!

I can listen to you talk about Thala and Chepauk forever. Literally brings me endless joy.

Have to admit I have not seen any relationship in chennai as close as from Rajni bond with Tamil makkals is as same as Dhoni to TamilNadu people... This relationship will be eteched in history ❤❤❤

Chepauk,eden garden and wankhede are the iconic grounds in India yet they don’t get many international matches in recent years that has to change…😞

Without an iconic or popular Indian player the way Hyderabad crowd supported their team over years separates them from other top franchises. Foreign players like Gilly, Warner, Kane are still treated like their own. Orange army is special.

Chepauk hands down has the best crowd i guess in terms of cricket knowledge of the spectators and the love they have for csk . You literary cant see a single shirt of the opposition team 😅 this doesn't happen even at the chinnaswamy, Wankhede or Kolkata. But in the 2024 season opener i saw something i have never seen and i dont think i will ever, for about ten seconds o hear RCB !RCB! Reverbarate at the chepauk 😮 i have not seen even MI get that when they play at the chepauk . Hearing csk at the chinnaswamy is not news but this was. RCB fans one of a kind in franchise sport.

The fortess vibe of CSK , wankhede and RCB is coz of the stadium structure which expand vertically eather than horizontally. The stadiums in the north coz they have huge capacities and have space are expanded much horizontally

Kotla never feels like a Delhi fortress because, the team owners never took any steps towards it. All the successful franchises have a strong personality and culture. They retain their core and whenever you look at their dugout you see familiar faces. This has not been the case for Delhi, they are backing Rishab now, but except Rishab who would you consider a through and through Delhi player? Maybe Sehwag to an extent but they also dropped him at the latter stage of his career.

To get the big crowd support, you either need a big unifying Indian superstar, or continued success at the IPL. MI and CSK have always had both from the beginning. MI had Sachin to start, transitioned to Rohit, and won 5 titles over the years. Dhoni has been with CSK from the beginning, and they have won 5 titles. RCB support has hinged on Kohli, with some support from ABD. I doubt RCB fans would be RCB fans if Kohli went to some other team. KKR fandom has a lot to do with SRK, and then what Gambhir achieved with KKR in 2012 and 2014. The remainder of the teams just haven't had enough success as sides, nor had the big Indian superstar to unite fans. DC have just never performed well. They had a couple of years during the pandemic when they did well and started to build some sort of support, but it has eroded again. RR is building support this year. They are performing well so crowd is getting behind then. GT has got success and so there is some build up for them. PBKS is the perennial leftover side, never expected to win, so they don't have the die hard fandom. SRH built some fandom during the 2016-2020 years where they reached the playoffs every year, won once, and were finalists one year. LSG will need to gain some success to gain a big crowd. KL isn't the most charismatic Indian star around.

correct , Mumbai and Chennai hoarding most of the iconic Indian players leaves other franchises with mostly unproven players . BCCI should take measures to distribute International level Indian players better amongst other franchises.

@@abhinay4200 I wouldn't say they are hoarding. Dhoni has been with CSK from the beginning. Sachin was obviously going to be MI's icon player and Rohit was an obvious successor as a Mumbai boy. Bumrah and Hardik were basically founded by Mumbai so its not fair to say that they have been hoarding them.

@@abhinay4200 Jadeja is hardly a T20 superstar. CSK has made superstars out of people that other teams have not. I mean, Hooda and Krunal were both Indian international cricketers just a couple of years ago. The fact that they haven't blossomed since them is bad luck for LSG. Same is true for GT and guys like Vijay Shankar as well.

@@nikunjdixit1175 come on ...Jadeja was a super star in the first season with RR and shane warne honed his skills .I hope you don't give the credit to dhobi for it .Hooda and Krunal are out of contract players and not in contention for a while ,Mumbai have Ishan ,and Tilak who have played international besides Bumrah,Rohit ,hardick .Vijay Shankar was never a T20 player . Chennai and Mumbai win because they can pay more money for players ,Hardick was bought for 100 cr by Mumbai this season .

Never understood this obsession we have with individuals currently. I understand in the 80s and 90s when we were effectively minnows. Idolizing a Kapil Dev or a Sachin then made sense when the remaining 10 players effectively were terrible in comparison but today we are powerhouses and are a team. The wankhede booing one player for their team or the Eden gardens effectively supporting South Africa when sourav ganguly was dropped or constant fan battles between Virat Kohli fans and Rohit Sharma fans. It’s probably why we aren’t as successful in ICC comps as we should be vs Australia where the fan culture is built around the team and not individuals.

RCB’s new blue jersey just doesn’t do justice to the RCB RED BRAND. I’ve been to all matches at chinnaswamy this year and the stadium looks blue. It’s not RCB’s identity. They have to change it to bright RED for the stadium be painted red. Really hate the blue mixing, seems like every jersey is just blue these days.

i don't know much about IPL as i am not watching this year's IPL nevertheless the way Chennai's fans in fact not only Chennai in all the cities where Caravan reached last year was just ineffable the insanity among fans speaks volumes

Man! He meant International match. Franchise cricket without crowd support is nothing in today's world. If you could have followed the last few years of CSK in IPL, Dhoni Post match conversations, Chepauk crowd it all makes sense to me. There is nothing wrong here.

How can you expect vibes from Delhi, Lucknow and Gujarat considering all have the same color. Fans need an identity. Do something new. Why only blue.

Indian crowds lack tribalism at the club level , SRH and Lucknow lack iconic Indian players hence the lack of support(Defence minister is not iconic Indian player) . Delhi crowd is just pathetic and Chandigarh is not a big city so don't expect big crowds every game . Gujrat has the most dull atmosphere , because of the massive stadium, even though you get 20-30k average crowd , because of the no of empty seats it looks dull and uninspring . Jaipur crowd is always good and I see most people wearing the pink jersies ,with the way SMS stadium is build you cannot get bull ring like feeling there like you get at Chepauk or Chinaswamy .

No offense to MSD or Mumbai. But RCB fanbase should get more respect. Without any success, the amount of love they shower is unbelievable. If you look at other unsuccessful teams Punjab & DC and compare their fanbase with RCB fanbase, you will understand the Greatness of RCB loyalty.

I know this guy doing sports quizzes from 1987 or so. He looks the same even now, well, almost!! One thing I like to complain th Harsha is about lack of Color of Jersey sense for many teams. Especially those who choose Blue color. Those idiots should learn from English Premier League that every club has jerses of two colors. The home team has the right to wear their primary color. If the other team also has the same Primary color, they will go for their secondary color. I hate seeing both teams in the same colors. I am glad some teams have a distinct colors for their Jerses like Chennai Superkings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
