One of the best power ballads ever written, and yet it still needed another verse. Probably the most unheralded voice in pop/rock history too.

Definitely the best version as you can hear the pain in his voice.

I manned the record bar at my Fathers shop after school and Saturdays in 1962, I was 6. I played songs on the shop turntable and when we closed I took the amplifier and made my first valve bass amp. in 1970. This song and Mike and the Mechanics 'The Living Years' always bought tears in my eyes, even now. The reason I believe I play bass and gigged around Sydney for 120 gigs.

This is the best version of this song and is stupendous as it is hauntingly beautiful. Most people hear Mariah Carey's version, which I think is very screechy, and cannot hold a candle to this version.

Without you was a massive hit for Harry Nisson, but was written by 2 members from the British rock band Badfinger (Pete Ham and Tom Evans). Dr. Hook and The Medicine Show “Carry Me Carrie” is another tearjerker. Not many have heard this! Another is “The Things I Didn’t Say”! Both are deep and emotional. I believe you’d love them.

He did a similar song called Without Her, with the same sort of sadness. He did a song called My Old Desk in which his desk was the only friend he could count on.

I prefer this version. I can feel the pain in his voice. Mariah version is great from a technical standpoint.
