The Harman Kardon Go+ Play 2 might be 5 years old but it can still kick it with the youngsters such as the new Harman Kardon Onyx Studio series. In this video I give a direct comparison between the Go+ Play and the Onyx Studio 7. Full sound tests including maximum volume and bass test. Best portable speaker for bass 2022?

Alan Ross Reviews Top Picks:
Pound for pound world champion:
Soundcore Motion Boom: geni.us/motionboom
Amazingly deep bass to 40hz for its size and price.
Still worth a look:
My former world champ the Soundcore Motion Plus can still offer great clarity.
geni.us/soundcoremotionplus
£50 champion:
Great bass for its size, Soundcore Boost: geni.us/soundcoreboost
A little bigger but a decent listen for the price BOGASING M4: geni.us/bogasingm4
Bass Heavy Speakers:
Harman Kardon Go+ (mid and upper bass heavy but with decent balance): Play geni.us/goplay
Onyx Studio 6 (warmer than the 7, maybe too bass heavy in balance): geni.us/onyxstudio6
Hi End Picks
Minirig mk3 2.2 system: geni.us/minirigmk3
Great for portable low deep kick: Onyx Studio 6 (more bass than Onyx 7): geni.us/onyxstudio6
Monitor Like openess and neutrality but lacks deep bass Audio Pro C3: geni.us/audioproc3
Best Micro Options:
Bose Soundlink Micro (warm): geni.us/bosesoundlinkmicro
Tribit Stormbox Micro (clinical): geni.us/tribitstormboxmicro
Worth a Look:
W-King T9: geni.us/wkingt9
The T9 is a reasonably loud and balanced party speaker with a big bright detailed sound.
Budget Loud Boombox: no clear winner but my pick for fun outside listen would be:
W-King X10 geni.us/wkingx10
Travel Speakers:
Marshall Stockwell 2: geni.us/stockwell2
offers a decent immersive sound with full and tight bass. Beware though it does go very loud
JBL Charge 5: geni.us/jblcharge5
Only mono but has a very clear and dynamic sound at low volumes and can go reasonably loud but will become a little screechy over 80%.

Harman/Kardon Go+ Play is still great! You can hear directly at 50 % that it is more open and has better treble and mids. The bass feels the same. Go+Play goes as deep, it plays all the notes, it is just that it is emphasized more on the Studio 7. I had it once before I purchased Aiwa Exos 9. I went from 100 w to 200 w.😁 BUT they should have upgraded Go+Play by now with the newest bluetooth version, usb-c port and an IP rating.

i would disagree about the go playing as deep as the o7. it does play as deep but the o7 is stronger at say 40hz than the go play, maybe thats what you meant. a/b i can hear a difference in deepest bass. thats really the main difference, both bass heavy speakers but go play more balanced. yup milking an old cow is HK 🙈

Go + Play battery issues are remedied by replacing the battery with one of the aftermarket options, It's not hard to do, just that there's a LOT of parts to remove before getting to the battery. Takes 30 min at most and battery issues gone. If you really wanted to get crafty, you could also rig up some different good 7.4v batteries in parallel to the factory battery circuit to create a bigger battery.

For anyone interested. I ended up buying the Citation 200. In my relatively small room, the bass was way tol heavy - especially in the corner, but even in the middle of the room it was overwhelming so it's no good without an equaliser. I prefer the highs of Citation 200 to the Onyx Studio 7 but I didn't have the time to properly test it. However I have to test the Citation 200 outside as that's supposedly the reasoning for the overly boomy bass.

The Go Play has a very irritating top end, I have known some people stuffing cotton at tweeter to calm that zing, including me. But the qualities that the Go Play have are great for outdoors; that sizzly top end and thumpy mid bass. You dont want a neutral top end and deep low bass outdoors, you cant hear low bass outside. The Onyx 7 is great for indoors, the GP for out.
