Going to replace mine on a '93. Don't have torque wrenches. Do I have to use torque wrenches?

I have a 1993 Sportster 883 with a big bore kit and on start-up, when the engine is cold and I rev it a little, sometimes a burst of air comes out of in between the head and the cylinder. Sounds like a sharp "Tssk".. Do you think I could blow a head gasket from revving it while the engine is too cold? What do you guys think?

Did you need to drain the oil before doing all this?

You didn't mention anything about the bike needing to be on TDC during reassembly. Do you know anything about that cos Im confused. My rocker boxes dont wanna settle down on the head anymore.

Julius Cesar Go to 3:50 in the video, it explains TDC. Best to do this before you remove the rocker boxes. If you already removed the rocker boxes, just make sure the push rods are at their lowest point. The boxes will not sit back on the cylinder head, you have to tighten the bolts to get the boxes back into position using a cross pattern to tighten them as shown in the video.

John Kalina I am sure you've got your rocker box back on by now but I wanted to answer this for others. If you did not do top-dead-center (TDC) before taking the rocker box off, it is ok. Starting from 10:05 in the video, try the following: 1. Make sure spark plugs are removed so air can escape the cylinders. 2. Place the bike in the highest gear (e.g. 5th gear; this makes turning the engine by the wheel the easiest). 3. Make sure pushrods are seated properly (in center of tappet). 4. Set engine to TDC by turning the rear wheel by hand (if on lift) or rolling the bike forward (if not on lift; roll back with clutch if you run out of space). Leave the bike in gear for both methods. TDC is seen as the point when both the intake and exhaust pushrods are at their lowest point. 5. Install the rocker box as in the video all the way through tightening all the bolts down to spec (crisscross is very important). 6. Since TDC was not initially performed the intake and exhaust valves might not be correctly synced. To safely sync them, turn the engine over 3-4 times manually as in step 4 (spark plugs should still be out). 7. Recheck torque on bolts and repeat step 6 a couple times to make sure the box is fully seated properly. 8. Continue install as normal. I performed this on a '01 1200 custom which looks like the general approach for most sportster evo motors. Hope this helps!

Don't watch the video then. I do these videos to help, I don't have to but I do. My goal is to repair not produce videos. F-Off.
