    I had the pleasure of test riding one today. I was totally impressed. The lightness and flickability. The power. The suspension. The mirrors. The seat. The sitting position. All were very very good for me. I'm 5'6" with a 28" inseam. The exhaust location sucks if you want to put your right foot on the ground of which you don't rally need to. I kept my right foot on the peg and the pad made on the exhaust. Moving your right foot to the brake peddle is a little awkward. So that's not a problem either because I never even had to use the back brake. The front brakes were just fine and because this bike is so light you really don't need the back brake to come to a complete stop. Just put your left foot down after a complete stop and it's that easy.

    This bike is awesome. I have one and have almost 1000 miles on it and the power, quality is just great . It's a daily commuter for me in city traffic but also great for weekends up in the mountain curves and some interstate rides too. Put a speed merchant slip on and it sounds great too .

    Hey Thanks Lem for the review! I purchased my Street-Rod as my middleweight bike (I have an 08 ZG1400 and a 15 TU250X) and your review helped weigh into that decision. The XG750A has become my primary ride for it wears so many hats well. I just crested 5K miles on my new HD (2 months of ownership) and i have shaken loose some pretty concerning issues however the motor company has stood behind the bike and it's holding up to my riding style. Don't get this bike thinking it's a Sport bike. I got this bike looking for a MODERN STANDARD motorcycle and that is what the XG-A is... Thanks again for your honesty!

    Killswitch Queen They usually use a Sena headset (a 20S here) paired with a wireless gopro backpack. Super slick and quality stuff. All of my riding friends use Senas when we're out and about together and, even if you get a phone call while rolling, the Mic audio is fantastic. First time I took a phone call, the other person didn't know I was riding until I told them.

    Nobody ever mentions this- The engine has been bored 50 over. The street 750 has a bore of 3.35 inches, but HD bored that out to 3.4 inches. Doesnt sound like much, I know. But when someone builds a drag car, they might bore the engine +0.020" or +0.030, or even 0.040" (if they are a madman). But boring out an engine to 0.050" is *MASSIVE* . Technically, this isnt a 750. It is actually 773cc's.

    I wonder how the seating position is. I see this as comparable to the Roadster... I *really wanted* to like the Roadster, until I tested one out, but the leg position was really weird, what with the short seat height, and high mid mount pegs--and with the low bars I knew I'd have a neck cramp after more than 30 minutes on the thing.

    HD's financial problems have nothing to do with young riders not "understanding the brand" they have everything to do with Americans no longer wanting to settle for HD's BS. The list of grievances against HD the last decade could be a mile long and their attitude in return ranges from devil-may-care to out right contemptuous. Wrapping themselves in the flag and standing atop their brilliant history simply isn't greasing the skids like it did 10 years ago, the gimmicks have run their course.

  • @Jrock420blam

    @Jrock420blam

    7 жыл бұрын

    Actually it's because less young people are riding bikes, the only thing Americans distrust more than HD is BMW and Metric brands which is why Harley outsells all of them 2 to 1. If all the bike brands want to keep selling they need to get young people on bikes.

  • @WindFireAllThatKindOfThing

    @WindFireAllThatKindOfThing

    The incredible numbers in sales of the Yammy Bolt, Triumphs, and the anticipation for starter bikes like the Rebel 500 would disagree with you Jrock. MSF rider courses from Seattle to Portland are filled to bursting even when it's rainy season, and prebooked out many months in advance even if you're willing to drive to the boondocks. New riders are popping up in the Northwest at breakneck speed. Literally. Lane splitting and shoulder riding just became legal again up here. Harley has a problem with younger riders because of three things: 1. Price. Price, price, and price. If the only Harleys you can score for under 10 grand are the 883 and the Streets, plus the insane dealer markups that are common, well, that $7k starter/intermediate rice rocket that won't require $1200 in dealer services shortly down the road suddenly looks pretty good. 2. Arrogant community (Yeah, that includes me as well, I've been that guy on my Dyna). The younger crowd understand the brand just fine, and don't like what they see. I can't tell you how many old crotchety farts suddenly decided they were Harley guys after Sons of Anarchy aired, and these midlife crisis new riders started running their mouths at experienced guys who have kept old 80's Magna V45's going for 60,000 miles, 30 years, and coast to coast road trips through the power of duct tape, spit, and wisdom. 3. Expensive, constant repairs. And everyone knows it, even people who don't ride. I don't even want to talk about cam chain tensioner fiascos. Two old sayings: Harley only made one good thing...experienced mechanics. And Hogs don't leak...they mark their territory. EVERYWHERE. ALL DAY.

    Yet young people aren't the ones buying those Yammy Bolts, Triumphs and Rebel 500's. Youths biking is an issue all the manufacturers are trying to remedy. Even still those streets and 883s are still outselling the rest but it isn't good enough if it's not a lot of purchases. All brands are really hurting in the youth market, it's bad enough that we've been hearing rumors of Harley, Honda and a few other brands teaming up at some events and things to get younger people on bikes, this is something they have never done together before. 1) Price is an issue they are all having youths are not buying new bikes it doesn't matter what brand it is. They are buying used bikes and most are from private sellers and not dealers so the manufacturers are not making any money off them and they don't count toward sales. 2 I used to think the community was arrogant too until I rode a Vulcan a few seasons back and found out they are just as shitty, by brother-in-law tells me the same about the BMW and Goldwing guys too. Younger people just don't care about old people being rude and dumb they just aren't riding bikes, this is showed by sales. I know guys who have old Royal Enfields running to this day and old Ironheads no bike is impossible to keep running if maintained right, though discontinued parts can make it harder but those guys find a way as you said with duct tape, spit and wisdom. 3) Repairs and upkeep is another issue they all deal with, knowing that a Harley out numbers all other bikes 2 to 1 on the road, there has never been any evidence that they need more repairs than any other brand. These were marketing attacks done a long time ago by other brands and have stuf . It seems to go by luck and how well the guy maintains his bike, we know guys who take immaculate care of their Goldwing's and they seem to break down all day and then guys who leave their Kawasaki Vulcan's out all winter and spring rainy season and they run like new and they only need basic maintenance, it's hit and miss like that with all brands. We see about an even number of brand bikes here at the shop, and I think that is an issue with younger people too, they just like their cars because they can sit out all day in bad weather and you can ride on spare tires but you can't do that on a bike.

    Find out where the soonest local to you MSF class is and see for yourself, I took mine last year and most people were younger than me (25 at the time). More young people are getting into motorcycling right now than in the last 5 years. And it isn't manufs. teaming up at events, it's more than likely YT and vloggers that are doing it. Not to mention when I was in votech my shop teacher whom we all looked up to rode a rebel and we made fun of it and him on it to no end, the old rebels were so lame there was no reason a young person would want to buy one but now the rebel is an all around good bike and it has "cool" appeal. There are so many good, safe, and most importantly to young buyers cool learner bikes available at this moment coupled with loss of interest in cars by millennials there is no excuse for motorcycle manufs to be posting poor sales.

  • @Jrock420blam

    @Jrock420blam

    7 жыл бұрын

    Well they all are having a lot of trouble in the 28 and under demos. Young people just aren't buying new bikes it doesn't matter how cool you think the Rebel is, they just aren't buying them new. There are fewer young people on bikes every year and it is a huge issue, which is why they were talking about teaming up at events to get youths back on bikes. I was working temp as a mechanic at the Harley plant in KC and they were talking about the different manufacturers teaming up with different alcohol brands to coordinate with younger people. I've worked at Honda, Indian, Kawasaki and Harley shops around Missouri, Florida and Texas as a temp and young people come in all the time looking at Streets, Sporties, Rebels and anything else you can name (they really like the little bikes) but none of them can afford them so they just used from private sellers. The Rebel is crazy cheap and you're right they are much slicker than they used to be the 500 is nice but they still aren't buying them. Victory was just brought back and it's already failed because everyone is having so much trouble bringing in new bikers specially youths.

    I don't think people should be hating on this..... I'm a millennial and I want something that has character and some fun in it. I think it's a radical improvement to the street 750. People have to look at the changes that were made. Some will just say " oh still just a slow 750cc cruiser", but that's totally wrong. Just like he said they put some better engineering into this and for like 8000$ there is room for upgrades.

    Probably just gunna buy a street 750 with better exhaust customizations. Performance wise u may do better on this bike but i simply just cannot say no to both front and rear shokes. that is optimum comfort for a bike and its a damn shame that is so rare to find.

    I feel like I read the increase in HP was roughly 10% with a 4-5% increase in ft-lbs of torque. Does the engine really feel that much more powerful/peppy? I'm a very happy owner of a Street 750, and just curious.

    I thought dropping Buel was a bad move, too... Buel was bringing out the performance in HD, again... That was a good thing... In my opinion, HD should make Cruisers, Touring Bikes, Road Racing Sport and Super Sport and Bikes, Drag Bikes, and Dirt Track Bikes. In the old days, back in the 50's and 60's, Harley and it's Owners were always involved in Racing; that's why the Sportster was created. It wasn't a "Beginner" Bike, it was a "Super" Street Bike. The first Sportsters were the first American, Motorcycle, "Street-Rods." They were created in response to the British Bikes that were dominating the "Street Scene," when it came to speed in the 50's and 60's. The original Sportsters were used for Road Racing, Drag Racing, Dirt Track Racing, Hill Climbing, Street Racing, Setting World Land Speed Records, Stunts, and Jumping (Evel Knievel). That's what "Us," the "Old Timers," know about the HD Sportster Series, that the majority of the new Millennials don't know about the Sportster's History and Pedigree. They think everyone always liked "Baggers" and Super Heavy Bikes. And, that the Sportster is a beginners bike. In my day, the cool Bikes were chromed and custom painted works of stripped down and light weight art. In the old days, if you wanted to go faster, one of the ways to do so, was to make your ride lighter. Baggers were for those that didn't care about going fast, "Old Folks." :) Personally, I love the lighter weight, more agile, nimble, and aggressive feel of the Sportster, when riding in the City or on winding roads over any of the heavy HD's. But, the big bikes are nice on the Highways and Freeways and any long distance rides. Especially, one's that you need to pack extra necessities or a passenger. And, that's cool; that's what they were made for... :) So, I like the new "Water-Cooled" Street Model. And, with the introduction of the Street Rod, I think HD is moving in the right direction. But, I would like to see a bigger 900cc version, also... Bigger meaning the size of the entire bike, chassis and displacement... :) The Street is too small, to me, too. It would be nice to see a 900, 1000, 1100, 1200, or "1300" offered with a larger chassis. But, retain the same look and style of the Street Rod; I'd buy one... I live in CA. I ride a 05 Sporty, that I purchased in 07 and built in 09, everyday, weather permitting. In heavy traffic, during hot days, if I don't split lanes, my Bike will get very hot. Often, I have wished it was water-cooled. Though, I love the way I have set up my Bike for myself; this one's a keeper. I'm 5'11" and weigh 220 pounds. I'd love to have a second HD that's cool looking and has more of a "Cafe" Style and is "Water-Cooled," to deal with those hot summer days... My Sporty is my third since my first in 1982, a 1979, 1000cc, Iron Head, Roadster. I have also owned two FXR's and one Dyna. I work on my own Bikes and I never leave them stock. I would love to see HD make a water-cooled or at least a oil-cooled, twin-overhead camshaft performance v-twin engine and put it into a lightweight, fully cradled, twin down-tube, lightweight but strong, old school style, steel swing-arm frame. "A water-cooled Roadster?" Would be perfect for the Hot CA Summer Days... Wouldn't you, Guys and Gals that like to really ride HD's, like to see a New Bike with the style of a New HD Roadster or Street Rod? One that's "Water-Cooled" or "Oil-Cooled" that has a displacement of 900cc -1300cc and puts out 80-130 hp and matching range for foot pounds of torque? And, fits Larger and Taller Riders but still has a wet weight of less than 550 pounds or so? Wouldn't that be a great Bike for HD to make? So, I hope they keep moving in this direction, myself... :) What do you think? Peace, Stiletto :)

Jedz 123 did a 3000 mile review of the Street Rod and it was shocking, in just 2 months his Street Rod had started to rust, plastic faded, the electrical panel fell off while he was riding. i was waiting to hear what Lemmy had to say but Jedz 123 turned my opinion on the bike. it looked great but in just 2 short months the bike was falling apart. always wanted a Harley but just got a Ducati instead. Sorry Lemmy.

I took the last 2017 MSF course in Philadelphia (riding in 24 degrees) and the only bikes with issues where the Harley Street models. None of the multiple TU250Xs or 10 year old Kawasaki Eliminators had issues.

    Ok so i have a question for anyone who can answer. I am intersted in 3 Harleys. Street rod, iron 883 and low rider s. Unfortunately I prob can't afford the low rider s. I have seen reviews on all of these bikes. This also will be my first motorcycle. Aside from the tumbler lol jk. Anyway, I like the sporty look and ergonomics of the street rod, ie better lean angle, more pickup n go etc. HOWEVER I also like the looks and sound of the iron 883 and all the customization available for it. I'm 6ft, have a bad back (damn Bain...but thats not gonna stop me). I guess what I am asking is which bike to get? Mostly going to be used on the weekends or in and out of traffic on main roads. Possibly some long distance riding, maxing out around 200 miles or so, but that wouldn't be often. Also I'm 41. A young 41. If there's anyone who owns both both bikes please let me know your opinion. Is the street rod really uncomfortable? Can you change the bars and pegs on it for comfortability? Will I get bored of an iron 883 faster than my street rod for upgrade purposes? Again if money was not an option I would definately go with a 2016 low rider s based on my research but that thing still sells for around 16-17k from my research. I like that the street rod doesn't look too sporty nor too much like a cruiser. Kind of in between, best of both worlds. But that iron is badass also!! I want them both!!! Decisions decions!! ALL opinions are welcome and appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

    I bought a new Bolt C-Spec last August. Had read a comparison of 6 mid size cruisers and the Bolt came out on top. The Harley Street came in last. Completely happy with my Bolt. Was riding it today. That being said, this new Street Rod has an estimated 64 horsepower?!? That beats last year's Street and my Bolt by about 15 horsepower now. That might make it worth a 2nd look.
