The Sportster was and remains one of Harley's best. The performance and visceral riding experiences is something that Harley must not lose. I hope they don't over-refine the next generation of these bikes. Great looks, impeccable power curve, with beautiful sight and sound make this classic indispensable to the Harley Davidson lineup. One of my all-time favorite motorcycles.

Harley Foodies Thank you, man. I had seen reviews from the KZread channel RevZilla among others claiming that the front brake of the Street 750 was really really bad. So I thought the Rod 750 might share the same. Enjoy life and the ride!

I just wish Harley would make a bigger version of the Street Rod. Same general performance qualities, just a larger frame and bigger engine and maybe a slightly meaner, more aggressive look. They could call it, idk, a V-Rod would be a good name. Yeah, Harley should make those!

The Iron 883 styling is breathtaking. The Street Rod is nice too, looks like my old Yamaha Radian. But the Iron is another league. And when uncorked the Evo engine sounds fantastic, and that low end torque is irresistible. Great video!

My first Harley, 2016, 883, coming from a sportbike. Put 3 times the miles on my 883 in a year, than my sportbike. Really enjoyed the bike, rode as much as I could and did alot of day trips out of town. I'm on a 2016 Fatboy S, two up riding and longer stays out of town. Still love the 883 and defiantly don't regret buying it.

BTW Matt, I have been riding a first-model-year Street 750 since I bought her out of the showroom on 22 Nov 2014. 34K-odd km on her so far. I live in the tropics: Hyderabad, India, so I ride every day in sun and rain. And rain literally for I often turn up at office in soaking shoes and trousers. If you ever need a review or opinion from a daily commuter, I would be glad to contribute.

I am a new rider and I did not grow up around bikes. Through personal non bias experience I knew I wanted a Harley (Tradition and the social experience is what swayed this decision). I went through the riding academy (first time on a motorcycle and not knowing how to operate a manual transmission.) I passed and bought a 2018 Street Rod. I will one day own a Traditional Harley (One I can put wrenches too) but that expensive dream build is on down the road. For now I look to the evolution of a Historical lifestyle that I can be apart of. I Fucking Love My Bike!!! Funny thing is it won't be my only bike!

Hey Matt! Bought a Street 750 a couple years ago and just traded it in for a new Iron 883 a couple weeks ago. I'll take the Iron all day over the Street, although I did have some fun riding it around. I like that I can add forward controls to the Iron, as well as all of the other customization options available. I love the sound of the engine on the Iron compared to the Street, and it handles really well around town. Thanks for doing all of the reviews you do!

I've ridden both... The Street Rod is actually a lot of fun. The power and handling are quite impressive for what it is. However, even at 5'8", my hips were cramping minutes into the ride. That reason alone would leave me to choose the Iron. If Harley can fix the ergonomics on the Street Rod, I would gladly consider it.

Kudos for stopping the "music" (repetitive bars) when you are speaking. Nearly all Moto and aviation sites on You Tube insist upon "music" or other sounds (background noise) intruding on the narrator's words thereby driving me away. I want to focus on what you and other presenters are saying. Now, if only You Tubers would keep an even decibel range for those of us who do not want our ear drums damaged by LOUD intros and exits from a segment....

The 883 has roughly 6 lbs ft more torque at only 250 RPMs less than the 750. That's going to be a very negligible difference. The extra weight of the 883 iron will also come into play. Overall, the streetrod 750 isn't going to feel like it's lacking in torque in any way, when being compared to the 883.

even if what depend on true precise numbers of torque and at which rpm they are lower weight and biger power street rod leave iron 883 in the dust from light 😉👌🏻ok according to this spec which i found for 2018 iron 883 and street rod 2018 you would not feel doffrenc 3-5 k rpm and if than more on street rod advanatage 😉 cos according to spec which i foudn street rod have 65 nm at 4000 rpm vs iron 883 68 nm at 4750 rpm so 5% around more not 25% and on higher rpm suprisingly comapre to street rod what mean on 4000 rpm iron can have the same or even less torq than street rod if you add to calculation like 50 pound more weight for iron 883 it turn out that street rod be feel more „torquey „ ot 3-4 k rpm 😉 well also gearing makes diffrenc if somebody comapre gear to gear assuming 1 ,2 gear be not enough longer ins treet rod you would feel better lowend tprq in street rod 👌🏻 and at max sprint beside lowend etc iron 883 have 0 chance with 51-52 hp at 260 kg 0-100 km/h hit in like 7 sec probably vs street rod should clock like 4,5-5 sec 👌🏻

Almost exactly the decision I'm looking at right now. As a tall guy I really appreciate the fit information. Looks like the 883 might be better as well as having more parts and sounding right. I'm currently planning to swing a leg over both bikes and (hopefully) sign the paperwork in a few days. It has been really irritating that basically all the "beginner" bikes being pushed are either sports bikes or too under powered to be useful. I'm really digging the Harley lineup and I wish it was easier for new riders to find this information. Thanks!

The handle bar distance is great if you got long arms, but you probably have long legs too and the foot pegs are to close. Most of the power in the revolution x motor comes in the mid range, just like the vrod revolution motor.

I think the other thing to consider for someone starting off is you can ride it as an 883 and when you feel like you need more power there's 1200 and 1250 big bore kits available for not much more money that the dealership will do for you.. I had mine done a few years ago and it keeps up with the bigger twins on a long run no bother

You do a good job on these Matt. funny I rode Japanese bikes my whole life. I retired and read about the M8 and said it is time for my Harley. so I bought the Heritage 114 and could not be more happy. as I got educated with Harley bikes I decided. 3 months later to buy a new 883 sportster also. having both worlds the M8 and the EVO is so cool. funny how I sort of like to ride the sportster more. plus I did the 883 to 1200 conversion with the harely SE and even more happy. you were so correct on the way you described a Harley. and people commenting on being made in America - what really is totally any more. keep up the good work and forget the nathsayers. :)

After owning Harleys and then Beemers I went the other direction, I'm keeping the beemers, Harleys have the Style, sound, cool factor to ride around town but beside that BMWs have better, everything handling brakes, etc they are just better overall bikes. Still want to buy a nice chopper.

Hi Matt, thanks for this amazing comparison review! I am a proud owner of a HD Streetbob '06 and looking for something sportier/lighter weight and came across this video. I dig the look of the iron 883, but I am 6"2 and think I am too tall for the bike. What would your recommendations be for a tall person like me? What kind of Sportster or Dyna, Street model should I be looking for? Thanks in advance!

Sorry this is probably too late. I'm also 6ft2 and sat on a sportster yesterday. It didn't feel uncomfortable to me, I looked a little bit awkward on the bike, it looked like my knees were quite high up. Hopefully you've had chance to try one

bring the handle bars back a little and adjustable, get rid of those mirrors for regular bar mount mirrors, angle the front of the gas tank up some to match the profile of the bike, and do something about that leg burning pipe , and that would be one nice HD :)

Most people that hate the Street Rod are either purists or never rode it. The Street Rod is on par with other naked bikes like the Yamaha FZ or the Kawasaki Z. This thing is a WHEELIE monster!!! The only reason I did not buy one is they came out with the 2018 Fat Bob 114, so I went that route. If anyone is considering this bike, I would suggest not depending much on advice from most Harley purists or most Harley sales people. Just ride it!! The 883 is a nice bike. However the comparison of these 2 bikes are strictly from a cost stand point. THe performance figures do not do the difference in riding experience justice! Lastly, the Revolution engine should have been put in ALL HDs. I love the Milwaukee 8, but it still could be better. The purists are going to run HD into oblivion if they do not keep up with the competition. Liquid cooled overhead cam engines are whats up!!!

There are two kinds of H-D purists - the ones who have maybe 10-20 years left on this earth, and the ones who say they wouldn't ride anything but a harley, but don't seem to have a motorcycle of any kind. I bought a street 500 recently, and that silly little bike has me sold on Harley Davidson. No flat spots in the EFI, like my brother's teutonic wonderpig, the blasted speedometer is correct within 1 mph, which is something literally no Japanese motorcycle manufacturer seems to be able to accomplish, and it's all put together well with clean welds and good paint. It's a great bike to run down the highway with, or ride across town. If I decide I want to replace it, I'm probably going to be at the dealer looking at a 750 Street Rod.

I beg to differ. The Yamaha and the Kawasaki surpasses the Street Rod in weight, horsepower and handling. What the 750 gives you is a bike that does just enough to be enjoyable while still having the chance to keep your license in your pocket longer then the other two of em with the benefit of it being made in the U.S.A. And that being said I'm working on trying to fit a turbocharger on one that sits tight to the body so you don't have to change your riding position and looks like it belongs there...So much for the whole license thing.. ;(

Matt, great video! Went today to check out both these bikes because I want/need to scale down from my Fatboy. I found the Street Rod's pegs to be too small and in a very uncomfortable position. Very! If the Roadster had a 6th speed, I would consider it further. The regular Street 750 is so much more confortable. If I could just get the engine performance and improved suspension from the Street Rod into the Street 750. Did H-D improve the front brakes on the Street 750? I've heard they're "mushy".

Due to my stature and I broke a right hip in 94 I actually HATE rice bike ride position. But in 08 I bought a 06 Buell Blast with 1 1/2 yr warranty ex riders edge bike and love it. BUT I am looking for either 883/1200 Superlow. Then want good two up seat and mid controls. In 08 I almost exclusively rode my Blast except when it was in for warranty because previous rear tire replacement was achieved by inexperienced tech removing pulley and not replacing or re loctite of the sprocket bolts. It wound up losing a bearing I found upon tire replacement then two of the 5 sprocket bolts borken off. They had to order wheel and sprocket. Other than that Blast was incredibly reliable. One other issues was the original front mount bracket and the front mount(mount had recall/tsb upgrade) ND one of front bracket bolts broke in typical sportster mount lossening. Even Buells needed red loctite/shake proof washers. Only other warranty issue was gasket leak from top of engine but that was at end of next year's riding at end of warranty.

I’ve owned both of these and have to say the 883 has the look and sound of the classic Harley, but after about 50 miles my butt was looking forward to a break. The Street Rod 750 doesn’t sound like a Harley, but the power, and the suspension is so much better than the 883. It doesn’t tire me out nearly as much...the only gripe is I wish they’d refigured the foot pegs...kind of awkward.

Street rod makes a good starter bike. Very tolerant of lugging. My daughter bought one, she does not rev a lot . The street rod is far more tolerant of that than my sportster or low rider. Will also run 80 mph, speed limit here with ease.

great honest review, once again Matt you tell it like it is, Im 6,6 as well and don't "fit" on anything but i definitely have my knees above my ass on these things albeit as a kid as "iffy" as they were ( until HD reorganized after AMF) I had a Superglide I bought in 71 because they were always out of sporties... bent a stock handle bar simply pushing it up a hill...had to rebuild the transmission to get the kick starter to mount, (no electric start available)...replaced a broken chain and most of the rear body work as it embedded itself in giant fiberglass/seat with a 65 Chevy taillight...after getting a huge oil leak fixed for the second time took it out for a ride and the dyno cover unscrewed itself and the cover hit the helmet of my friend who was kind enough to let me lead once in awhile due to his being on a CB750 Honda...all this before 2000 miles...I due admit after basically rebuilding that bike I ended up loving it and put a lot more miles on it...never a racer but nothing was more comfortable or turned more heads...

I mean the street rod isn't a bad bike, but the ergos are from hell. After two hours of riding one my hip muscles ached the next day. My feet were always searching for the rear brake and shifter. The tall footpegs, low seat and manspreading tank made me feel like a toad flying down the road at a hundred miles per hour.

Having previously worked for HD in the UK I've been lucky enought to own both these bikes. For me the only thing the Iron scores over the Street is old school style and sound. Everything else is just better on the Street. Only gripe on the Street was foot peg position puts one foot too close to the pipe.

Maybe you guys can help me then.. i have a street rod 750. Bought about 4 months ago.. it has the forward controlls (4 inches forward) im about 5'5 so not tall.. Problem is ive dropped the bike twice. And ive never dropped anything before. Im thinking the width is one issue since the right foot is placed awkward on the ground. Second issue is the forward pegs force my legs and specifically the right hip into a weird spot. I went to HD sat on a iron and they seem much more comfortable however im worried that ill be dissapointed due to the power from the rod to the 883. The rod also looses its value heavy so i will loose a bit of money here in South Africa aelling it this quick.. Any advice?
