I believe stock Harley battery is made by Deka, which are top of the line Agm batteries.

The generator and the regulator need to be up to the load regardless of the battery. AGM still dry out after time. Hot start is a better indicator of CCA. It's not about the engine being cold, just the current the battery can deliver. The voltage can be 12.8 without the CCA to turn over a hot engine. Don't take my word for it but if warm and hot starts are difficult the battery is the first thing to replace, the next things to replace are damaged parts. Kick back is not ok to ignore.

The cold crank amps are what allows it to start better....usually the lithium's have a much high rating. However they are usually at least double the price of an AGM battery...hardest part for me is figuring out which aftermarket battery fits in the bike...as they dont make it as easy as shopping for an AGM battery (in my experience...luckily I havent had to do it very often). Also, dont go cheap on a lithium, as they do blow...go look up expansion issues with lithium batteries. On the sportbikes they are used MUCH MORE as weight savings is a lot more prevalent compared to a 900 lb Harley bagger... :D

@joalvarez6252 I upgraded my audio last winter and upgraded the battery, too. I never had no problem out of it. I usually didn't ride the bike during the wk so I'd keep it on a maintainer just because. Fri -Sun when I would ride it I really ever hooked the maintainer up

I only seem to get two years out of a motorcycle battery whether it be a standard battery or AGM so this time I went with a lithium battery and I'm hoping I get a longer life out of it.

I am only doing an Alpine Power Pack bridged at 90 watts RMS per channel, to run two Alpine Type R 6.5 speakers, this weekend. I just want a little more volume so I can hear on the highway with my Modular Helmet on. I guess I am getting old. I think I will save my chips to do a Stage 2 cam before worrying about audio

I understand I need a new tinder/charger, my question is the existing pigtail will it charge the lithium battery or do I have to do something there? I just put in the lithium battery and when I start the bike instead of staying steady at 14 volts it likes to climb and jump around all the way up to 16 why would it be doing that do you know?

  • @RealRonTV

Yes you can use the same hookup with no problem. A lithium battery is stronger than an AGM which is why you see the increase in volts.

This is a video about a an audio/strobe enthusiast with a huge electrical load on his bike. The lithium info is false in respect to the safe start feature on most modern lithium bike batteries…”Duraboost” is a Li brand with a sleep mode that will allow you a few starts.

Just buy a Yuasha battery And leave it an night on the battery charger before instal. Its onley 80 dollar. After six or seven years just buy a new one. Remember Harley Davidson dont make batterys bij them self. They onley put their sticker on it and ask you topdollars.
