Harley Davidson guy rides an Indian Chief | Honest review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In the video I ride the Indian Chief Dark Horse. This bike looks and feels like Harley Davidson Street Bob so that's what I compare it to. The Chief comes in multiple configurations ranging from 15-18k so it could be compared to many of the Harley Softail models.

Chief Dark horse models come with the 116 and the digital gauge, the regular models have the 111 and the analog speedometer with a small digital screen. Looks like you're riding the Bobber which is forward controls and wire wheels. The base Chief is mag wheels with mid controls and the Super Chief comes with floorboards, windscreen, and bags. I have the Bobber Dark Horse and it's my absolute favorite bike I've ever had. That being said the stock exhaust and seat leave a lot to be desired.

Super helpful info. I'm going to pin this comment at the top if that's cool? They had the Super Chief and I didn't ride it because of time. I really should have so I could compare it to HD's Heritage Softail. My test ride was too short to notice the seat but I can see it not getting the job done on longer rides. This was my first experience riding any Indian models. I love that FTR Carbon but it seems like a play bike and for 17k it's just too out of reach for me.

He’s definitely on a chief bobber dark horse. Can tell by the digital screen. I have the chief bobber. With the analog and the 111 honestly for most people 111 is more than enough bikes. I feel the 116 is for the person who rides aggressive and is looking to overtake people always. Both amazing bikes and I will eventually upgrade to the 116. And tech tip both the 111 and 116 have selectable ride modes no matter the display. Something to keep in mind

@@mrsandiegovlogs @JaysonBucy the chief bobber has been reliable? I'm between the low rider s and the chief bobber (not the dark horse version) What I like about the low rider s is the lack of technology, not touch screens etc, pure motorcycle, while the chief bobber dark horse has even maps, bluetooth and stuff (I dont like that), and in the chief bobber I saw that it doesn't have the touch screen, just an analog screen, but I'm not sure if it has ride modes too, I wish not. But I wanted to know between these bikes, which one could be more reliable and having confidence that it is a war machine and not one made of glass Ride safe brothers, I'll appreciate a lot if someone can guide me in the correct path, don't want to buy a motorcycle only for it looks, I want an iron horse that I can trust in

Blair, you should ride that bike in Sport Mode.....it's a whole different animal! The amount of power and response out of that 116 is incredible. Those group test rides aren't going to let you really get a feel for a bike or ride it like you want. I've had a Chief Dark Horse since May and have over 3600 miles on it so far. It's the absolute best bike I've ever owned. I was eying Lowrider S for the longest time, but then the Chief came out and I instantly pre-ordered one. No regrets.

I disagree on Harley having better paint and finish. Paint is equal in quality but they use different paint styles. As for finish... my 2020 Softail Standard, with 3,700 miles on it, which I take care of better than myself, has rust starting on the top of the jiffy stand, the paint on the swingarm can be nicked with a finger nail, and the spokes are rusted to fuck. Shitty chrome job. Also, the right rear running light filament is burned out of the bulb. I say running light as it's the light that's always on; the blinker/brake filament is fine. So at night time it looks like I have one tail light. I love my Harley. But Indian makes a better finished bike IMHO.

I looked at the chief bobber believe it was a 2022 model at the only Indian dealer in my state. Looked great but for the same price I went with the 2021 street bob. More aftermarket parts, big 114, 2 up ready, mid controls, love the looks of the street bob, and one of the most important deal breakers for me is dealership network. There are 4 harley dealerships in my state compared to 1 Indian dealership. Did I mention the stone washed 🤔 white pearl street bob looks 👌 🔥.

I applaud the attempt at being objective. The only failure in this review is the same failure that 99% of all cruiser based motorcycle channels have, and that’s the obvious brand bias. It’s never just a “here’s the bike, this is what I think of the bike”. It’s always “here’s an Indian and here’s what I think of it compared to whatever Harley bike I think it’s closest to”. That’s something you rarely ever hear from the sport bike channels. They tend to be more objective about the bike and compare brands less. The reason I have a problem with the constant comparison between Harley and Indian is because they are two completely different machines. People always point out the looks and how they’re similar but fail to recognize the fact that there are only so many different ways you can design a cruiser before it’s no longer a cruiser. And I get the dealership thing but if the aftermarket issue was such a big deal there would be vastly different looking Harleys everywhere but outside of the custom show bikes, there aren’t. Most people buy the same aftermarket parts as everybody else. That and nowadays you can customize Indian just as much as you can any other bike. Aftermarket availability is no longer an issue like it was when Polaris first purchased the company. And even then none of that has anything to do with the bike itself. At this point those arguments are nothing more than a way to justify preferring Harley over Indian. And there’s nothing wrong with that, as I plan on having Harleys, Indians, Yamahas, Hondas etc all in my garage as they each provide a different riding experience and utility, but if we’re reviewing a bike I think we should stick to reviewing the bike and not comparing and contrasting it to another brand. It’d be just as annoying if someone said, today we’re reviewing the Harley Pan America, it’s Harley’s version of the BMW GS. And then every other sentence kept mentioning the BMW GS, as though BMW is the only brand that can legitimately make ADV bikes without being branded as a copy. Eventually you’d be like ok we get it, you’re a BMW fanboy, let’s hear more about the Harley that you’re riding. And it’s not to say the Indian fanboy channels don’t do it either because they do and it’s equally annoying. It is possible to state an opinion on a motorcycle without comparing it to another brand.

Watching your demo videos makes me feel incredibly lucky. In my area, Indian partnered with a local shop, had much of their line posted up out there for a week. It was set up so that you just register and they give you the keys and say "Be back in a half hour... or so...?" Companies should take notes on this. Riders are going to fall way harder for your bikes if they actually get to put in some work. I did not like the fit/finish of the chief. The FTR on the other hand. Isaidgotdamn.

Generally it's been my understanding the reason why they don't post horsepower numbers is when the horsepower numbers are nothing to brag about...... Unlike Torque also the 4 inch touch screen . Who had it first . I noticed a reference to Harley having it on the sportster S..who came out first with this ? As far as the engine and drivetrain do smooth I have a hard time interpreting that is being bad or negative. Even if you want to hear metal parts clanging and ticking and dining off of each other. From an engineering standpoint one of those two situations is considered Superior and one of them is not. For instance if you bought a new car and it had a lot of mechanical noise coming from the drivetrain you would probably be taking it back to the dealership immediately demanding something be fixed. But on a Harley it's deemed acceptable or in this case desirable. ? Interesting

I know most newer bikes are toned down. Maybe, an aftermarket exhaust would bring a Harley feel and sound to the Chief. I am seriously looking at the Super Chief, but keep coming back to the Roadking. I'd almost rather an older Roadking, get beefier bike, better fell and sound and save lots of money! Lot's of the review here is dead on. I was wondering how in the world the used Chief was so cheap! Compared to much old Harley's, the newer Chiefs were so cheap I figured they must have something majorly wrong with them.
