Hey brother, thanks for the part numbers. This seems to be a common problem and you saved me the leg work of looking everything up. Ordering everything as we speak. Again bro, I appreciate the vid.

Thanks for your video, I believe its just what I needed to see. I knew it was risky buying a 10 year old bike with 474 miles (2010 Street Bob), one owner and as soon as I touched the fuel check valve, it started leaking. I can see clearly the one on the fuel line is dry rotted, I'll start there. If I have to replace the check valve, lower, I know what to buy for that too now! Thanks for the video and ALL the time you saved me finding the right part! Sincerely!

Thanks for the video! The drain plug o ring fit and fixed the issue. Not surprised Harley won't tell you this or sell the o ring to fix the problem.

It is insane that something this simple is a mystery to them. They probably would not make a big enough profit from just an o ring. Haha

More Harley junk ! If Harley can't provide a better system , just give me a hose and clamp , like the old days. I'll try the small o-ring first but I removed the check valve from the tank but it looks good . Blew in the check valve hose and it holds air then I pushed in on the valve and air escaped so it seems good . My Road King has two check valves at the bottom of the tank . One is high pressure ( check valve near outside of tank ) and one a return. The return hose is smaller than the pressure hose. If you buy the short hose it won't work for the pressure ( to short) so knowing that will save you money. The pressure hose with check valve is 22" long, return is shorter.

I jumped the gun and ripped out the small o ring from the fuel line attachment first. When I noticed the leak, I popped the fitting off, it was in bad shape. I replaced it, thought I was good to go and still have a leak. Now I need to deal with quick connect o ring.

I have a 2005 Road King and I have researched this leaky check valve problem quite extensively, as it happened to me a couple years ago. Back then I too was appalled at the prices so sought out a more reasonable solution. I ended up doing the same thing, and bought those same Fuel tool o rings to very carefully replace the lower o ring (there is an upper one in there, too). Good luck trying to rebuild the whole thing without the Fuel Tool tool, which costs $100! Anyway, here I am 2 years on and it is leaking again. Not regularly, and not much. It is very slight. But it is leaking and it will no doubt just get worse with time. I have a big trip coming up so I am fixing this once and for all. Turns out you can replace the whole check valve AND the inside the tank pex fuel hose connected to it for only about $30, including shipping. Its a Drag specialties part on Revzilla. In my research I have learned that the 2 pex lines inside the tank, as well as the Fuel pressure regulator housing, can get brittle (ethanol fuel effects on plastics and rubber) and fail and cause lots of problems and even leave you hopelessly stranded. So that's it. Im taking the whole unit out and I am replacing everything inside the tank (except the fuel pump) up to and including the leaky check valve. SO, two hoses, the regulator, housing, check valve and fuel filter. Also replacing the gasket and special screws that seal and hold the top plate down. I Already bought the parts. If you have an older fuel injected Harley and havent thought about whats inside that tank you may wanna get in there and replace that stuff as preventative maintenance.

I got my gas to stop leaking with a new o ring i can heat my fuel pump when my harley is on, like the same sound as when the pump primes before turning it on. Is that normal? The motor and bike sound fine, no sputtering or anything like that.

How do you get the quick release back in. I took it off to get under the tank now I can't get the thing back in there. Do you have to pull down and push the valve up it it or just push it up??

  • @garageonomics9411

Yes, you pull back push the connector in and then release. If that is not working and fairly easy then something may be out of place.

Patience. Ha. You need an o ring pick, a small mirror, and a light helps. The mirror helps you to locate the o ring. Once you find the groove with the pick it comes out fairly easy. Make sure to put a bit of lube on the new one.
