Harley Davidson brake lights are not working with the rear pedal!

I installed an aftermarket light to a 2000 Harley Davidson Fatboy, and when I wired it up, I found that the brake light would not come on when the rear brakes were applies. I walked through my troubleshooting process and explained the solution to my problem.

I've got a 08 softail deluxe that I've taken the caliper off and rebuilt them and bled the brakes without going to Harley and it's got abs.. I also bought a cheap air bleeding kit from harbor freight that works great for flushing the brake system

Hello, excellent video and good explanation, I have a question, I recently bought a stop similar to what you see, but I can't figure out how to connect it with my harness, since there are two bulb lights, so I have 4 cables, two red, two black, It's okay if I connect the two black ones to the ground and one red for the run and the other when the stop is activated, I appreciate your help.

The brake switches are in parallel each getting power from a different breaker, possibly live orange wire, turns to Red after the switch and front and rear reds come together just b4 the lite.

Okay my question is now you know when you take the two wires off to check your switch to see if it might be the switch you take a wire and cross over the two and if the light comes on you know it's your switch okay most generally but what if the lights still doesn't come on when you cross them over when you connect those two wires what then

One wire is HOT meaning +12 volts and the bike frame is ground or -- u would want a multimeter or if anything a 12 volts bulb in the socket with wires and gator clips. one clip to good ground other clip u check wires to brake sw. one wire should make test lamp lite up and if sw good, the lamp will lite when the brake is pressed

I'm thinking somewhere between the switch and the tail light because I'm getting power to the switch I didn't check after I well I know that wire it's getting fed once I connected but it's not making it to the tail light where does that wire go from there I don't have manual I would look

Sounds like you’re on the right track. The most common place for them to have an issue in the harness is under the fender. I see it a lot where peoples bike are lowered and the tire make contact the the harness until it runs through and creates a short

Are you asking What I grounded the multi meter to? I don’t remember exactly, but any bolt that’s not coated, any bare spot on the frame, or the negative battery post will work.

Yes it does you push the brake pedal the light doesn't go on you jump the wires the light goes on obviously tells you the switch is bad.
