Hardy grew up in Philidelphia, Mississippi. You run across good ole boys like this around here. Men who simply will not tolerate a woman beater. A friend of mine is out of prison in about 6 months after 15 years for a very similar situation. His thanks for saving the girl he did was 15 to life for voluntary manslaughter. Like this song, the girl has been coming to see him twice a month since it happened. She is over the moon that he's getting out soon. Cindy is the sweetest girl you'll ever meet.

Problem with "getting involved " in a domestic situation ,even one like this is a lot of times the couple quit beating each other and attack the person trying to help. As a retired LEO dealt with that particular issue......but did have a few that got"handled" off book between residence and station house.

When she says "thank you"(not on the recording), is a great touch. One of the better songs I've heard in awhile. Gripping, touching and heartbreak, captured in one song.

It is a powerful song. I have my radio on in my office all day, but when this song came on for the first time, I actually stopped to listen.

Hardy is originally from Mississippi. He went to college in Tennessee. Eventually, he moved to Nashville. There is a gun by Taurus called the Judge.

5:30 there is a revolver that shoots .410 shotgun shells known as “The Judge.” That is what the song is referring to here, btw. Great reaction!

She says i dont know if he is an angel. He is an avenging angel. I had had one as a kid. My dad was a drunk and beat my and me and my 2 brothers. When i was 8, my uncle Henry found out and put an end to it. I never saw my dad after that. Dont know what happened, but i never heard from him again.

Hardy has written a few songs for other artists in the past with i think 11 or 12 big hits before he started doing his on music. His song " The Mockingbird and the Crow " is half country and half rock. It tells his story about his life. Writing songs for others, the Mockingbird and doing his on music, the Crow. Hope you can view it.

One big takeaway from this video, for everybody. If you ever find yourself in this situation, DO NOT shot them in the back, as in the video. That is not considered self defense and you will end up behind bars.

Where i am in PA, this is common along with dealing with concrete angel. Evil does not live in the lights. Any woman and child lives a life of security.

Not sure if anybody has mentioned it yet but "a judge under a seat" not only refers to the gun but the type of gun too. It's called a Judge and shoots either a 45 Long Colt or .410 shotgun shell.

Great track. Saw this a few weeks back. And it stopped me in my tracks. Great stort, great clip. Yep. The lowest of the low. They get what they deserve. On a lighter side. Goodbye Earl is in a similar mood but a light hearted approach. Same message!

I can relate to this song by what I have seen through the years working in EMS and riding a Paramedic Unit. I find it amazing what some folks are put through in their lives including kids too. That's all I want to say about that as many are not at all good memories. Some of the hard ones were when we would lose a beautiful small child in the back of our unit from a beating their father gave them the night before!

To add to the other comments... he was not a bad man, he was not an evil man... perhaps he grew up in a house of abuse.... as he knew what had happened to her without asking... he was a man who saw a need, saw an evil and acted on that need and evil. He was a man of faith (evidenced by the court scene bridge (Oh Lord have mercy on me was not asked to the court system... it was a plea to God) and visibly evidenced by the cross hanging on his rear view mirror... was his action legal, obviously not based on the trial, was it morally just.... that is up to each individual for you cannot legislate morality... but for every victim of DV, he would be an answered prayer... and for every man... the story forces the question... "what would I do?" I recently picked up on another aspect of the acting...you can see the transfer of 'weight' from the weight on her as a DV victim... to him, as the reality of what he did sank in looking at the body on the floor... she has her weight lifted as she no longer has to live that life... and the weight of the decision he made settles onto his shoulders, heart and mind.

The "judge" is a revolver that shoots a variety of caliber through one gun. Hardy even got one for Lainey last year after the country award show that they cleaned house on.

In an interview I read, Hardy said it was not a true story but he thought of it when his wife was screamed at by a man. What would he do if someone he cared about was being abused.

Been there, done that. Gave the abuser a two week stay in the ICU. Freedom feel good.

2 of my best friends were in DV Marriages and I helped them both get out of them. . 1 of them the Ex tracked her down at my house with me and my Fiance . And it didn't go down the way he thought it would go. Lets just say the Police and Ambulance were called for him.

The Judge they sing about is a type of pistol. A Taurus judge it will shoot either 45cal. Long colt or 410 shot gun. It has long been a favorite of women for concealed carry because of its punch. I wouldn't call it a pew pew it's more of a powwow. Lol
