Hardcore new routing in Scotland with Magnus Mitdbø
Спорт
I took Magnus Mitdbø new routing in Scotland. Obviously I knew the weather would be wild, but not that wild!

Climbing a new route with Dave MacLeod, that has to be a huge bucket list box checked! Hope we'll see more climbing with him . And LOTS more out door climbing.
"Conditions? A 5. With 10 being we're already dead" *Meanwhile* underneath them an 18 wheeler gets blown off the road and flips over by the windstorm

Dave, you and Magnus have a fun dynamic and I really hope you film more projects together in the future. Hilarious to see Magnus smiling his way through that horrific Scottish weather 😂 This was a treat, thanks Dave

It's insane to me that people look at Magnus' interactions with people and describe it as a 'fun dynamic'
the bags fleeing the scene.. hilarious
😂😂😂 “10 being we are already dead” …. Too good
The bags falling down 200 metres, the trailer flipping, the wind moving the quickdraws around, the "at 10 we are dead". Perfection.
Really good one. If you hear Dave say: "holy $hit man" things are hardcore 😂
Poor Magnus, didn't climb outside for a year and when he does it's bouldering while it's showering and sport climbing under a wind tsunami. Pure Scotland.

A wind tsunami is called a storm, AcTuALly.
It's a shame the weather got in the way on both days. I would love to see Dave and Magnus work on something hard together. They would make a good team
Wow Magnus and Dave MacLeod on a local crag….me and my mate were there a week ago.

More Dave and Magnus collabs please :D
You’ve really got to appreciate the ferocity of Scottish weather. We definitely need to see Magnus back to finish this.
What a video! I think this is the most entertaining video you've done Dave, the music, the wind stealing your bags, you absolute nutters, bloody fantastic.
Its attitude, mindset and effort like that which makes Dave and Magnus such respectable and impressive climbers and people. Really great to see
Just watched the video on Magnus channel and I see this... this day keeps getting better!
looks like it was a tougher experience for Magnus than all the special forces training he has done - but then Dave always seems to be a one-man special force
come on man! the video could have been longer. want to see all the bits and pieces. Thank you for making such a fun video. Great to see you two climb together in Scotland.
kudos to whoever setup the mics in that wind, sounded amazing considering
You had to be a bit of a tease haha, I was so excited to see you route/line selection and bolting location process. I think seeing your perspective of developing would be an amazing watch!
That definitely needs a follow-up!
Sad this isn't an hour long! :)

Honestly I think this length and pace was perfect for the episode. Not that I wouldn't mind more content from either/both of these amazing guys!
So glad to see Dave and Magnus climbing together! And what a way to be introduced to Scottish climbing! Really think that if people can handle the conditions up there they will be fine anywhere. Hope to see more videos!
I can't wait for this. Been watching you and Magnus for a while. It feels like this collaboration is long overdue. Magnus really likes to bring other climbing content creators attention with collab on his main channel.
Glad to see you made sure you took all necessary precautions to protect Magnus from a dose of the flu or even pleurisy. Great stuff!
This was absurd! So fun to watch
I love the absolute glee and endless psych even while suffering in terrible conditions - the things we do for love
So happy to see you and Magnus. Magnus is always real.
My favorite content producers together, thanks guys. 🎉
Been waiting for this collab for awhile!
Banger of a video! Really enjoyed watching!
This was so, so good! Hope you guys collaborate more in the future!
Really very good, excellent soundtrack choice !
Awesome! I've been waiting for this colab for a while! Great to see you guys made it happen. Would love to see more adventures!
Your videos on technique are the best there is. I am so much looking forward to your course at altitude! Loved the video
Dave you are such a badass climber 👊
Magnus has gotta be the busiest youtuber. How many countries does he travel to a week for collabs it feels like he's everywhere at once for only days at a time.
this is amazing we love the boys together
I bet the cameraman was DYING just hanging on the wall.
The colour of their hands says it all. With the wind chill and the actual temperature makes this hardcore indeed. Good effort lads!
I love this collaboration!
Always refreshing to see a bit of reality, rather than everything perfect and staged for camera. Also excellent seeing two of the best in their respective disciplines in a collaboration.
Now I understand *why* there are so many unclimbed faces in Scotland 😅 As much as I love climbing, I'd never be outdoors trying anything in such weather, but there those beasts are, taking it all with a smile on their faces haha This type of resilience is a very good trait to have to be as great at climbing as they are.

Yeah right! Seems like my climbing comfort level sits tightly between 15 and 25 degree Celsius. I'm soft as fuck, and you haven't even heard about my climbing partner yet :D
Both videos were really amazing! I would love to see you do more collabs honestly. Also the music is extremely fitting for the hardcore conditions, like holy crap you guys are really crazy!

I found the music a bit annoying, but yes great viddeo!!!
Great collab. Had me laughing throughout. That area looks so beautiful.
This was great to see and the approach wellies are the one!
Cool video; Absolutely banging music 🤘
Just realised you signed my copy of 9 out of 10 - I am feeling a bit starstruck with that haha
The colab we didnt know we needed!
Thanks Dave, thanks Magnus, helps a lot!
Im not hardcore climber but I climbed outside in the Calanques (France) as a kid where its always very windy, and that comment on the conditions making you forget fear kinda rings true to me, I wasn't the most courageous climber but having to fight the conditions sometimes made me forget the height or whether I was above my last clip yet or not lol
Dave finally got Magnus out of the house lol
Living in scotland myself, the weather probably changed 3 times while i watched this video. love it! 😆
Really inspiring man, will get around to it
two of my absolute favorite gentleman climbers. i love you guys.
Great Video, nice to see pro climbers taking the "giving it a go" to the extreme.
The two most E. P. I. C. videos on the YT, this and the one on the Magnus's channel
Such a cool video 🤩
Great video. Cool to see you climb together.
incredible video!
Great collab!
Dave and Magnus .. pls do more climbing together. Thoroughly enjoyed this!
I had understood that in Scotland it is not allowed the use of fixed bolts in the rock. But in the video it seems that there are several bolts already installed in the route.
what a nice sunny day out!
That was very interesting. Inspiring really.
I think the wideboyz need to have a discussion about daves weather grading system. Dave has given todays weather the D grade of 5. If thats the case ive never even been sport climbing in D1 conditions.
@durabelle
3 ай бұрын
That would be a good conversation. D10 conditions are quite clear, but what would a D9 or D7 be? If bags escaping and trailers falling over isn't enough for even a D6, what needs to happen for the higher grades? Belayer needing to anchor themselves to the ground? Trailers actually flying?
you'll almost never regret a little bit more wool when traveling somewhere that can be cold
Dave's conditions rating was excellent! Reminds me of the Enormocast Aid Rant...
Collab that we all deserved
legendary ❤
Amazing!
Love this
Love climbing in bad conditions, makes the experience all that much more memorable. New vid on my channel.
Crazy weather! would love to see the FA of this!
A shame the wind was what it was, but I think you guys made the most of it. Can’t wait to see the course!
Really want to try some of the routes you bolted near Oban this year 👍
Great colab
Dope vid
Wonderful!💥💥💥
Dave even Sandbags the weather...
2:15 Magnus is drunk with the power of those wellies. "I can step in anything, no matter how wet or muddy!"
People standing around that lorry going omfg look what just happened! And looking up to see rock climbers half way up a rock face! 😂
Very cool!!!
EPIC!
love this collab, that was some hardcore scottish climbing
Epic!
Dave is the definition of Hardcore wholesome
Dave’s got the Fred Beckey river crossing technique down pat!
It's ok to stay inside some days, Dave! Raincheck!
Magnus always take Mountain Equipment with you for Scotland :-)) - i like this products
Wind is mad, & you two are even madder.
He got the full Scottish experience ( great music btw)
When I was a kid climbing in Scotland we would just add a difficulty grade to the route if it was (raining) wet. That way you could still climb even when it was shitty and feel like you accomplished something. We did some pretty rad routes in wet condition.
At last a video where Magnus isn't posing with his shirt off! He doesn't wear wellies, he's never climbed in socks, Mr MacLeod please take him on a few more trips and you'll make a climber out of him! 🤣 We want to see him do some climbing in Wellies, now there's a challenge for you!
5:20 That conditions scale has got to be the most trad thing I've ever heard.
Great video Dave really good dynamic between you and Magnus. I am curious what allows a route to be bolted? And not climbed as a trad route? Is it just a lack of suitable gear placements?
I noticed something as you were walking near the burn (creek). You had the straps of your walking poles over the top of your hands. This can cause a problem if the lower end of the pole gets stuck (in a bush etc.) and the pole can pull out of your hand due to your forward momentum. The strap pulls down on the thumb and can sprain, dislocate or break your thumb. My right thumb has less mobility due to doing this when skiing. The correct way is to hang the poles on the wrists by the straps, then lower the hands onto the handles with the straps going into the palms. Hope this saves at least one thumb. Thanks.

I was also surprised that this absolute master of attention to detail was using his poles sub-optimally.
@craigbritton1089

Been doing it for decades; never a problem. One can set it up with a wrap so one can press down on the straps and rely much less on the fingers gripping the pole;
Great content. Glad Mitbo stuck it out 😅
I've always climbed with my socks on because I learned to lead in Scottish winter!
Hot aches? I've had them climbing on the Buachaille in June, but no lorry blown over that day!
I mean the climbing is very cool in those conditions. But honestly, how badass isn't the cameraman hanging up there in those winds? Not getting warm from climbing that wind has to chill you through the bones...😮
