    Currently doing a similar reno on a summerhouse here in Denmark. Built in the 70s - the concrete at the thickest point was 5 cm - and 2.5 at the thinnest. Was a breeze to break up. But the concrete in the attached shed - could park tank in there - 19cm compacted concrete. Heaviest shit ever.

    If cavity wall insulation batts(panels) are to be installed, there must be a LARGE air space gap in-between the outer walls and the cavity wall insulation batts inside the cavity, this includes a substantial air space gap in-between the cavity wall insulation batts and the cavity wall tie drip point(which must point downwards in the centre of the cavity), (cavity wall ties are laid with a slight downwards slope across the level mortar joints, from the inner to the outer walls). Ask City & Guilds N.V.Q. BRICKWORK teachers in person for proof of this.

    Hi Izzy, good to c u back. Another qq I hope u can answer, if u can’t I don’t think many can..! Building an extension the neighbours ground level is 350mm higher than mine. The cavity tray on external wall will still need to b above 150mm..as it’s much higher than my floor will I need to put insulation below the cavity tray..?

  • @IzzytheBricky

    Hiya mate, so what I would do there is a tanked tray. I've got a video of this actually "NEW JOB, steels & working in the Rain| Izzy the bricky weekly. If I remember correctly, I have the same thing. Weeps went 150 higher than the neighbors. I also did a C tray detail. Imagine building 600mm tray into your brickwork. Building up 525mm and then putting the tray again onto the ,6th course. Picture a C. Have a look at the video, should explain for you

    Hi Izzy you might be able to help I’m laying red leister bricks it’s not really hot so can understand why as soon as I lay a dozen I have to point them ,birds beak pointing as the brick sucks the moisture like I’ve never seen . I’ve started wetting down as I lay that’s helping but not as much as I d like Thanks

  • @IzzytheBricky

    @IzzytheBricky

    Ай бұрын

    Hiya mate, real pain that it! I'd hose them down and make sure you've got plenty of feb in the mix. Problem is, those bricks suck moisture, so you'll probably have to really soak them...but then you've got the issue of being too wet. If your using profiles.... instead Try setting up a corner and a return. Same the other side. Then do the bulk separate. This way your not on a huge flank (if your setting up big corners)
