Hard Water VS Soft Water ! Why does my hair have buildup??

Easy little at home experiment to see if you have hard or soft water!
Hard water will leave a cloudy residue in your bowl. The soap doesn’t dissolve as well in hard water, which means it is HARD to rinse out, and will leave a residue on whatever you are washing.
This is concerning for people with sensitive skin as the lye in the soap will cause irritation.
This is a concern for hairdressers, as shampoo will be harder to rinse out, and will leave a buildup over time in the hair.
Give it a try!!
Grab a bowl of water and a bar of soap and lather up!
The more cloudy the water the harder the water!

I rinse really well. My hair has been brassy red since a year of living in this house. And my whole family has eczema

Brassy doesn’t have anything to do with hard or soft water…. Generally its because of iron in the water or copper pipes. Well water (without filtration) will be hard water however it also has lots of minerals…. Iron or copper etc. I’ve known some well water to be extremely salty, like the ocean.

So when you shampoo hair in a salon, how do you change water from the sink to be distilled water. Do you install a purifier or distilled water pump?

Generally in a salon or a home, you would install a whole house filter to the water coming into the house/building. You can install a filter just to a faucet as well however a whole house filter is best.

Do you have city water? Usually city water is soft, in any event there are many soft water filters on the market. I don’t have a recommendation but just try one and see

Is it weird that I'm struggling with naturally soft water? My scalp never feels clean unless I use a chelated shampoo, but then my hair lengths and ends get too stripped. I've tried regular or gentle shampoos for weeks/months, but my roots are stil limp even after my hair dries on wash day. My scalp is also often itchy and irritated (pinkish or redish). I used to get 3A spirals without even trying, but now it's really hard to get definition. I've also been losing a lot of hair to the point that my hair part is wider and the hair right beside the part is thinner (I can see more of my scalp than I used to).

Interesting…. Are you sure you have ‘natural’ soft water? I know a lot of people have whole house filters that make the water soft.

@@kimw9558 me too! Our city water is considered very soft. The only thing that works for me is rinsing my hair in bottled water every once in a while, but what a waste.

Hard water become grayish, due to soap or detergent residue is wash off and it mixed with water. Soft water is clear, because soap or detergent residue still stick into hand that is why hand still slimy and water is clear. Won't that be the case? Soft water alone with no soap is not slimmy, so the slimmy feel must come from the soap residue that soft water cannot wash away. With all due respect, all video keep saying slimmy feel is from soft water, but it's not. Soft water alone won't give you that feeling.

Correct however this video is for the effect of hard or soft water when cleansing… hair or skin or even dishes. This video was created for cosmetology students, when shampooing. Specifically when trying to cleanse hair after coloring or perming. Thanks so much for your reply!
