Hard to find Campgrounds in the mountains on lakes and rivers. Check out this one! Melton Hill Dam

We found this campground looking on Google maps for a campground near Knoxville, TN. It is reservable on "Campspot.com." Not Rec.gov. Who would've known. Not ideal, but still a fun time was had by Akela and I! Check out the Links Below!

Good morning, Rick and Akela! Interesting campground. I'm guessing it's been there for awhile. I imagine it would be cost prohibitive to build something like that on the side of some cliffs now. When I watch yt videos, my wife doesn't care. But, when she hears your voice, she comes over to see what Akela is up to. She a dog person and even volunteers with an animal rescue group and she's got a real soft spot for German Shepherds. Don't let Akela read this. I understand he gets a really big head.

I get the impression the Corp of Engineers develop and build these campgrounds while constructing the dam. So they just mix the cost in with the overall billions of $$$ the dam costs. And then they do very little afterwards. Some are great, some are good. Some just show their age. And Akela Definitely gets a big head and shows it by getting bigger sticks!! Thanks Tom (And Wife). Great Comment !

Seems like a very different campground layout but I guess it would have to be due to its location in the hill. These are the type of campgrounds where I really appreciate the “campground scout” recommending the nicest, useable sites. “Hi Akela.”

The other thing about this camping adventure is the "CampSpot" reservation system. If you want to camp at TVA campground, you need to know about CampSpot. Thanks for the comment and your support!!

I kinda liked this campground. Plenty of trees, close to the water, and hills for good exercise. The history of the Manhattan Project must be legendary in that area, as moms and dads/grandpas and grandmas tell stories of working on the project. Thanks for the tour!

We will have to get back there and get the tour. It definitely would be interesting. Especially since my Brother is a Gov. Nuclear Scientist with a very high security clearance!

Hi Susan! YA, I like visiting dams too. Sometimes you can get a tour, but no so much since we are always worried about terrorist!! Not a bad campground if you get a good site or you don't mind being a mountain goat...lol Lots of up and down on some sites!

Hi, Rick! I spent some time in Los Alamos, N.M., and got a chance to tour some of the Labs.. fascinating, and very important part of our History. Like you said, the campground wasn't that cool, except for the Showers!! Dinner looked good.. made me hungry! THANKS!!

Jill from "Geezers", we were just at Douglas headwater CG near Sevierville maybe around same time as you. Much nicer TVA cg. If time check our video on that and Stony Fork, which we went to from your review. Safe travels.

The last two times I've been to Stony fork some stupid local Ya-Hoo is burning garbage in their fire place and smoking out the entire campground. Plastic, Styrofoam, rotten wood. Last time I actually went over at 11:30pm and dumped a bucket of water on it, it was so bad and they had gone to bed! I'll definitely check out your Douglas Headwater CG.

Another great video, Rick. Does Akela ever get tired of traveling? I didn't know that the TVA was so large and had that many dams. Do you know what percent of the dams were electrical generator facilities? Keep going and we will see you at home.

I believe they were all built for electrification of the poor Appalachian peoples. Also only about half (14) currently have functioning campgrounds. And if a door is open on the car, you can bet Akela is in there waiting to go somewhere. He loves to travel, Sticks must taste different in different states

The Manhattan Project National Historic Park actually consists of Oak Ridge Tennessee, Los Alamos New Mexico & the "B" reactor near Hanford Washington . The bus trip there takes you out to the B reactor can you get to stand in the room where they actually converted the uranium to the enriched state that it needs to be part of a bomb.😊

Nice! Coming up on a year since we got rid of our land line phone. Was getting annoying anyway with robo calls and scammers. Phone did have talking caller ID, but the robotic voice couldn't pronounce words right.
