Boondocking / Free Camping in Central NY's Taylor Valley State Forest on the Finger Lakes Trail

Re-visiting my old haunts and camping in a campground from the 50's that went bust and was taken over by the state. Just open fields and woods, but great camping alone in the quiet forest. Check out the Links Below!

Its interesting to find old foundations in the middle of a forest somewhere. Makes you wonder what kind of life they had, living that far from a town. Nice little spot to get-a-way!

Ya, I believe when they were there they actually had a small store, and there used to be a gas station about 2 miles away. Now that area is pretty far from anything. Truxton is about 10 miles to the north and McGraw is about 17 to the south. It's a great place to relax and listen to the birds!

Yippee on your nice trip! We often forget how pretty is the state of New York. And plenty of sticks! We usually camp 4 or 5 nights. Planning a 10 night trip to Black Hills in September. Need to rewatch some of your old Aliner videos to get camper ready. Enjoy the summer and say “Hi” to Akela for us.

Hi Rick. Another Great video. New York has some beautiful wooded areas. I want to thank you for all of your videos, especially the how to videos on the Aliner. I have sold my 2002 Aliner and have moved into a 2022 Braxton Creek Bushwhacker 15FK teardrop style camper. On to the next chapter. See you in the next video.

Hey, finally somewhere I've been! Too bad, I haven't gotten down there for sometime, as I used to frequent the place often. Maybe I'll have to take a trip down there this summer. Thanks for the history lesson of the area.

Hey there Dan. Ya, definitely one of my favorite spots. I was pleasantly surprised it was so empty. They were re-scraping the dirt road up the hill, but they left at 3pm. And someone had just mowed my area, so it was great . I might end up in Moose River or Croghan Area in October. I love NY, but Michigan calls for my next adventure! Thanks for the comment!

Funny how things change as you get older. As a Kid I was a Pyromaniac. Loved fires, keeping them going, poking them, being right up next to them. Now, it a few and far between time when I want to have one. And there needs to be a purpose and many special conditions (no wind, good firewood, no wild fire risk). Youth is wasted on the young!

I'm only in the area for a wedding. Wish I could, but I think my notes and scripts are buried in a distant file somewhere. But those videos didn't really get many views. It a unique niche of info with a fairly small audience. Maybe someday when I'm back up ther for a week I'll get back into the cemetary.

I'm not in a NYS campground or park. It is a state forest. Leash requirement are to have your dog under control so they don't harass wildlife or other recreational users. He does neither. Good info though, thanks for the comment !
