The thrill of the hunt. It's the ultimate drug, and the more intense the rush, the higher the price. International superstar Jean-Claude Van Damme teams up with world-famous action director John Woo for this electrifying thriller that WGN Radio hails as "Easily one of the year's best films!" Van Damme is the target of an evil mercenary (Lance Henriksen) who recruits homeless combat veterans for the "amusement" of his clients - bored tycoons who will pay a half a million dollars to stalk and kill the most challenging prey of them all: Man. Laced with dark humor and slam-packed with electrifying action Hard Target is a must see for action fans.

Not gonna lie, the arrow dodge with the glorious mullet whip at 5:47 was pretty badass...
An action movie is only as good as both its hero and villain. I'm not gonna deny that Van Damme, back in the day, was fun to watch, but man, Henriksen kicks ass in this movie.

@@sadetwizelve Yes. While the other movies were great, I felt that "Hard Target" was the one that fully established Van Damme as an actor to be reckoned with, in other words, not just "another karate guy making another movie kicking asses". It had great writing, a great plot, and Lance Henriksen as the consummate evil villain and Wilford Brimley as a warm and welcome presence helping Van Damme to defeat him.

It still seems like there’s a bottomless mag every time he reloads. It looks like he shot van Cleaf 26 times. Round it down to 20 times for repeat camera angles. So 10 rounds a gun. Looks like he put in extended 20 round mags and considering how liberally he shot after reloading… It doesn’t take away from the action any since who’s really counting exacts anyway? Still amusing.

I agree though Face/Off is a pretty close second. A shame John Woo stopped doing this style of action movies. Now he's back in China and have no idea what the guy is doing but it's nothing as memorable as his 90s movies.
At least they put extended mags in the Berettas instead of making standard mags look endless. He still fired way too many rounds, but they made an effort
Mr. van Varenberg at his best!! 💪🏾
7:33 this scene was beautifully recreated in Face/Off as well. A John Woo trademark

Best John Woo's film, a masterpiece of action, one of my favorite movies.
This is the UNCUT version of the shootout only available on the Blu Ray in the US, while the DVD is the theatrical cut. Australia and the U.K. Got the uncut version on DVD initially, years later we would get it on Blu Ray. At 6:04 I wish they got rid of the shot of him removing the arrow from his arm, it's back in there in the next shot. Also his glasses disappear. This really bugged me. If they ever release a directors cut I hope they remove that shot.

The movie is a classic, I spent most my teenage years binge watching Van damme movies. Great fight scenes and plenty of shootouts and action.. Its kinda funny how i notice and see things differently in a movie now as a 34 year old, that i wouldn't of even thought twice about when i was 16 yrs old. Like the paper mache faces that explode when Van Damme shoots them with his shotgun. incendiary rounds? Lol... Where the hell did the explosions come from? one scene there where Lance Henriksen is ripping off his jacket like he is in a chemical fire. Lol ..John Woo must of notice he was coming under budget and thought fuck it lets just throw in 50k worth of pyrotechnics in the last 10 minutes.. lol....

This is the uncut version.. holy shit. After he emptied 2 clips into the dude with the nice shirt he never finished the dude off he elbowed in the theatric version. In fact he shot the guy 28 times with one clip 😂 I even noticed the arrow through the throat scene. It was never shown.. only the guy fallen down. It even shows the back of the arrow coming out of the hole. I questioned that for years.

After Chance finish the baddie with the Forward the theatrical version makes him kick the Dude who just removed the Arrow then he empties the clip. Why did John Woo cut the first emptied clip out?
