Harbor Freight wheel chock review and improvement

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Quick video to show how I improved the Harbor Freight motorcycle wheel chock. I've transported bikes a couple thousand miles with this but felt like it had room for improvement.

I see they are made to fit all size tires, so the smaller ones are sloppy and the bike wants to tip over. I decided to save the money and just built one out of 2x4s and bolted it together. I made it to fit the exact size of my tire and just used a bolt to drive over to hold the bike forward. My bike stands perfectly straight up and I can't even push it over. It was so easy to make I wonder why others haven't tried it?!

Raise that bolt on the swivel part to the top position. You can also squeeze the the sides together and get a better fit....

It's interesting to see how this chock grips / doesn't grip the tire. Without the sidestand, it looks like the bike would end up on its side. And damage your brake rotor in the process. Others that I've looked at will hold the bike upright without the side stand although I would not trailer them that way. Thanks for the demo because I didn't realize how different chocks could be. I would call this a "trailer only chock." Good lesson.

I have a chock without the rocker. Its in an enclosed trailer. It locks to an E-Track or an X-Track.I use it as my motorcycle repair garage. I strap the handlebars to E-Track on the walls. I can put a jack under it, pull wheels off and such. For a rocker type wheel chock i think your idea is Brilliant. I may consider doing that.

NEVER LEAVE THE KICKSTAND DOWN WHILE HAULING

Good job - but for those without a welder, you don't need steel or to weld anything. Just get longer carriage bolts and a pressure treated 2x4. Secure the 2x4 to the chock via the longer carriage bolts. You could also accommodate 2 different tire sizes by rotating the 2x4 180 degrees and having two different holes in the 2x4 that would change the width between the two 2x4's.

The rotating rear portion of the cradle on the wheel chock has three hight adjustments. yours needs to be in the top position for that size tire and it will more than likely remedy your issue

5:17 Too much play between front and rear stops. You want the rubber of the tire to wedge into the front part of the bracket. You can see the tire rotate back out of the front 'v'. Alex below has the right idea, if raising the pivot makes it too hard to pull the bike back out, you can drill a couple new holes a bit forward from the current.

Alex Hall on it if used correctly the bottom of the tire is not suppose to be touching at all

When you strap your bike, is the kickstand touching the ground or do you have someone hold bike up to where it's straight and strap it and kickstand is off the ground?

Straight up. I strap the kickstand side first, just snug, then when putting pressure on the right side it pulls it to the upright position.

So I have a big cruiser Harley, FLH and I also use tiedowns from each handlebar. I would never trust the chock by itself. God for bid you had to make an abrupt stop or got in a car accident that bike would become a flying projectile. That’s my two. Cents.

Good idea but not sure why you rip a product that works. I have this chock and it works great. If it works it works. Don't get this "If you don't use it much". I'm not sure I'd trust that trailer.
