Review of the Central pneumatic hardwood floornailer / stapler after I used it for a 1100 square foot flooring job. Watch to see the issues I hand and how the job went.

I have the 97586 floor nailer that is at least 8 years old. I used it to install 3100 square feet of white oak in my house, and have loaned it to two different people for their houses. We all used the 2" cleats. Never tried staples. Never had any misfires, or stuck plunger. My hammer still looks new. The reason I am here is because of a small project I had over the weekend. I was almost done when the nailer started leaking around the plunger. It was still working, so I finished the job. The manual says that a leak in that area is caused by either a cracked seal (item 17), or loose screws (item 16). I got lucky. My leak was caused by loose screws. That's a good thing because parts are about non existent online. I did find one guy that thinks the Campbell Hausfield nailers have the same dimensions, though I did not verify that. My Senco framing nailer cracked that same seal, and would not fire. That is probably a good way to tell if it's loose screws, or a cracked seal. Hopefully this will help somebody in the future when they start hearing a leak around the plunger area.

Thank you for posting. You answered all the questions I had about the floor nailer and the PSI. Thanks!! Starting my project this weekend, but only 200 sq!

I have the same nailer. Using this nailer I put down around 700 sf of bamboo flooring using 2" L cleats. Setting the pressure like Mr. Tims said is important. My pressure was at 80psi and the cleats set perfect. There were issues with some of the cleats not going all the way in, but was because you must hit the mallet and nailer head with enough impact to force cleats in perfect. Not a hard swing, but medium. You'll get the hang of it after first or second row. Oil the nailer everyday like the directions state and this will do the job.

Great video, excellent results on the floors. I'm thinking of embarking on replacing existing flooring on an entry area in my house with 3/4 in Cherry wood, your tips helped me, that is, on the HF nail gun. Also helpful were your tips on feathering the PSI to not overdo as to bends the staples, and using the Stanley ones. The mallet result is interesting and I was surprised you were able to glue it back at all.

That’s a lot of staples/wacks with the mallet. Looks like it turned out great

Nice Vid and gd. job on your floors. I bought the same nailer/stapler but it's used. I can't complain about the performance and cost($40) of this tool. So far i have stapled about 150sq. ft of soild-hard reclaimed oak flooring without too much trouble. I had alittle problem cleaning out a staple that was jammed when i hit a old cut-off staple but cleared the jam and will be getting back on the job today. Since i am only a jack of all trades and master of none when i finish this project i will be not needing this tool and therefore will try to sell it for $20-30. One question i ask of you is what in the hell did you do to that mallet!! You dogged that thing!!

I bought a harbor freight banks two-in-one flooring stapler and nailer similar to that pneumatic same one that was on the shelf. I really could use the help on the PSI to use I am using the stapler for 7/16 OSB plywood for a camper roof replacement I have no experience other than framing houses and roofing and plywood walls and all that so I have construction knowledge but I haven't done a camper I'm having anxiety bad I don't have enough money been out of work so I've got to do it by myself . What PSI would be good for the 1-in in the 2-in have you experimented with it I have to use 2-in for just a couple of staples and I did buy harbor freight Staples so I'm not really happy that those staples do not work because they are expensive to use just very little of them because I got to replace one board that takes 2-in and the other ones are only going to be for 7 7/16 plywood which I believe all I need is an inch and a half for depth what inch and a quarter I believe would be good because the 7/16 give 1 inch into the 1-in penetration into the frame of the camper.

Which is better the staples or L cleats? It seems to me the staples seem to over lap and bend, I don't know. Getting ready to do my floor.

I use cleats. Staples tend to give after a bit of time and the floor develops squeaks.

Is there a depth adjuster on this tool?

Yes (sort of), the pressure output on your compressor. He said 3/4 oak was 70 lbs for him or he split the tongue.
