    ive been using my 10 year old Pittsburgh angle grinder for cutting grinding and sanding everything imaginable since i bought it new for around 10 dollars with no problems at all. its the older model with the orange casing. have since picked up three of the newer versions during 5 dollar sales but none have been out of the box yet. they probably wont be as good as the older one buy i may never need to find out.

    Holy cow Catus, that was a deeeep dive! Your knowledge is quite extensive. Even though I don't really need all this info, I somehow can't stop watching 😂 I just picked up an Avid Power 8 amp 12,000 rpm angle grinder - now I have to get some wheels for it. I saw quite a good demo comparing the Warrior, Bauer, and Hercules wheels. The Bauer wheels seem like they are the way to go.

  • @McScott76
    @McScott76 Жыл бұрын

    Just picked up the 7 amp Hercules grinder from HF to cut down a rear scraper blade for my tractor. It's an old heavy-duty implement with about 1/2" thick steel and a bolt-on blade edge that adds another 3/4" steel at the base. I picked up a Hercules 1/8" combo type 27 cutting/grinding disc from HF, and that disc was a beast. I cut through about 2 linear feet of steel on each end of the blade and was then able to grind down and polish the rough edges -- all with the same disc. I highly recommend those combo discs. The thickness made the cutting process take a little longer than a 1/16 cutting disc, but they're a lot safer (less risk of blowing up) and they'll chew through anything.

    Paddle switch only. I'm left handed also. But been bit by a wire wheel once. And lucky it was a paddle switch. When it caught and kicked 13 amp DeWalt unexpectedly. It was slowing down from the kick back and hand off the trigger instead of going to max no load speed before Impact. Any slide switch is dangerous on these tools. Anything over 6 ampa should be paddle switch

    That is a very astute observation and actually almost all power tools made in the last hundred years suffer from the very same issue particularly Grinders and drills the way people hold them where it's easiest to manipulate and use them also covers up the vents and almost all tools are designed to operate with zero vent obstructions to achieve their full rated output. things like half inch drills and rotary hammers with side handles are a big deal just because your hand is not over the vents

    Most of these tools are made in the same city if not same factory in China. The purchasing company specs the product and the Chinese manufacture it and stamp a name on it. The difference in quality is the difference in cost. You pay for what you get. Of course there is competition and marketing wank but it comes down to the money.

    @@CatusMaximus you get the warranty if it last close to two years go get another you walk in and walk out the door with the new one. Take it apart and take the switch,brush holders, gear set never hurts to have spare parts. Cant be Walmarts warrany either it's a 2 year warranty with receipt.6 amp $16 right now goes from 16-18. Got one it was stolen got another. Gutted the brushes, holders, switch, bearings, gear set. Returned it, got another and all essential spare parts. For like $2 more you can get another 2 year warranty so for 18$ right now Walmart will replace the grinder for 4 years. I've gotten 2 more, so if someone needs some or it's abusive but don need the oomp. I save my DeWalts, 11 and 13 amps in the truck. And if some one messes it up it mucheajser to get $20 out of someone to replace it. The black and Decker model uses the same brushes and switches etc if you need parts they make the hypertough line. The switch inside hypertough is rated for 8 amps on a 6 amp motor. So it's not completely crap .. I change the grease in the gears and sealed bearings before j ever use it. Never had gear or bearing failure. Even with no name Chinese bearings. Ever 2-3 months change them all again. Its like . 30 cents worth of red lithium grease. Definitely surprised me using good grease on cheap bearings.
