Thank you for uploading the vod! I always think as fascinating as this game is, most people will find it too bloody, too bright and too disturbing. Here are a few theories (lore?) I hold for this game. It's worth noting that they put a lot of effort into sound and stage designs, so I believe the devs made these choices on purpose. Most people think that the theme of Happy Game is a satire because the main character is not happy at all. And that is the only thing that we are certain of, then we don't have any solid evidence of what happened to the boy. Some believe the smiling face was his trauma, and some believe it was somebody who took his source of happiness away. It is also worth noting that in the first chapter, there was no other children with the boy, only shadows. In the second the creatures such as rabbits and hearts were disturbed by the boy's behavior, when the hearts get upset, they explode and die which is normally not enough to cause death. In the second and third chapter, there are many creatures trying to take the boy's belongings away. My theory is that the main character doesn't see the world as most children do, and his weird perspectives caused a lot of trouble upon other children, thus they started picking on him. Yet, the mc can't realize what he did wrong, and when he receives strong stimulation (ex: light, color, stress) his mind produces another vision for him. It can also be an adult using drugs but I feel like a child who was tortured because he has a different vision of the world causes more pain to the audience. At the end, the mc still wants to be happy, but the price of his happiness (unfitting in the society, bullying, exposed to too much stimulation)also haunts him forever. If he wants to get what makes him happy, he will have to play a complicated puzzle game, while other people just get what they want and find joy in it.
