Happiest Man on Earth | Mingyur Rinpoche | Talks at Google

This refreshing book is yet another sign that the next generation of Buddhism is creative, cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary. Born in 1975 in Nepal, the author is among the generation of Tibetan lamas trained outside of Tibet, and he's also a gifted meditator. His brain activity has been measured during meditation, earning him the enviable sobriquet of "happiest man on earth." He fuses scientific and spiritual considerations, explaining meditation as a physical as well as a spiritual process. Mingyur Rinpoche knows from experience that meditation can change the brain. He experienced panic attacks as a child that he was able to overcome through intensive meditation. If diligently practiced, meditation can affect the "neuronal gossip"-his imaginative rendering of brain cell communication-that keeps us stuck in unhappy behaviors. The meditation master offers a wide variety of techniques, counseling ease in practice to avoid boredom or aversion. Less is more; practice shorter periods more often, he says. His approach will be especially welcome for anyone frustrated by meditation or convinced they're "not doing it right." This book is a fresh breath from the meditation room, written with kindness, energy and wit. Three cheers for a cheerful contemplative.

    Rinpoche's point on not making a boss or enemy out of your suffering is so simple, yet so powerful. I'm trying to stop being socially awkward and heal the traumas from my life, but nothing seems to work. In fact, things have gotten worse the more I focussed on them. Making friends with the suffering as an idea fills me with optimism. I hope anyone reading this finds peace and happiness from their suffering.

    Yes ! Anyone can attain happiness as long as that anyone is a human with the kind of sophisticated brain humans have. In today's world when we talk about happiness, we more or less refer to the pleasures which can be derived from engaging in sensorial experiences. But no matter how pleasant the experience is when one engage in these sensorial activities including 'sex' there is always a limit. However, the real happiness which u can easily translate as deep satisfaction can be achieved through training of one's own mind. U are from the land where all these techniques to attain genuine happiness which are based on sound reasonings and critical thinking developed in ancient times. If u truly seek genuine happiness and not merely 'pleasures' then with some searching and inquiries you shall find someone who have the means and ways to help you attain what u are searching for...Good Luck!

Many people can’t go to the Teachers because they don’t understand English so consequently they don’t understand their teachings and the meaning of Refuge. If they don’t understand what means Refuge they can’t take Refuge. Please can you translate in other languages Mingyur Rinpoche’s teachings? Thank you so much!

    This might be a bad analogy but being in relaxation in meditating can feel like this A drug addict that’s been up for days on end they haven’t eaten there dehydrated there basically depleted, and as you can imagine there brain is working over time with so many thoughts and ideas running threw it , finally when they’ve surrendered to just sitting or laying down there thoughts leave them there bodies are in such a relaxed state and there Oblivious to anything or anyone around them That’s how I think if meditation practiced enough can give you that type of relaxation Now I’m not saying to do drugs but that’s the closes to the ultimate meditation you could do

  • @timjassmann995

    @timjassmann995

    7 жыл бұрын

    Concentration is a poor word choice when it comes to meditation. When people say to concentrate on your breath, they mean to let your mind be aware of your breath. For most people it takes far more effort to completely empty their minds than to give it a simple task like pay attention to the breath. By paying attention to relaxed, deep, constant paced breathing you give your mind the opportunity to relax much deeper than by trying to force your mind to quiet on its own. Think of it more as gently observing your breath rather than intense concentration on it. Keeping your mind distracted with a small task makes it much easier to prevent your mind from wandering, and notice when it does start to wander so that you can recenter yourself.

    Dionisis Makrigiannis . if you concentrate or let the mind focus or aware on the breathe (on the tip of nose while inhaling air or chest-rib cage or abdomen falling up n down)....then by keeping your body at relax mode, especially BRAIN (because we focus our Mind on breathing- one job- brain use less energy) hence, it's same like sleeping but it depends on how perfect u can focus and relax the whole body while meditating.
