The sex scenes themselves were never meant to entirely portray intimacy, I don’t think. I mean yes, in the literal sense, sex is intimate- but one thing about Hannibal that I find so fascinating is how everything, nearly everything, is a metaphor or an analogy. There is always an underlying meaning beyond what we see on the surface.

That is definitely part of it, for sure, but I think a huge part of his reaction is also due to the fact that this is the first time that Will has reached out to touch him. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall a single time that Will has been the one, for any reason, to initiate any kind of physical contact with Hannibal. Our favorite cannibal has touched Will as often as he reasonably could, and Will has allowed it (when he was aware of it), but hasn't returned the favor. For this to be the first time, for this to be the moment that Will opens himself up, and embraces his true nature and Hannibal at the same time... that has to be an emotional moment for Hannibal, and all of his desires are laid out bare in the expression on his face.

from seeing the way he describes love, hannibal is cleary sapiosexual, it’s the reason why he fell in love with will in the first place- because of his mind. the mind transcends everything for hannibal, and so i don’t think it matters to him what gender the person is, the number one thing is “to be fully aware of one another” as he said, and have that certain degree of continuous curiosity about each other, and understanding. will ticked all the boxes hannibal needed. other than the sappiosexual side of things, he probably doesn’t care about labels because love and romance are different, and even romance and sex are different. but fuller said he was pansexual and that makes sense for him.

I also saw where Will had become so much like Hannibal in the scene where the red dragon spreads his wings. He and Hannibal are on opposite sides of Francis Dolarhyde and they look like mirror images of each other.

Will actively avoids being touched by other people most of the time, doesn't like even shaking hands, and would certainly never seek out skinship from others. But here, he guides Hannibal's hand to his waist and rests his head in the crook of Hannibal's neck (in this alt take) or on Hannibal's chest listening to his heartbeat (in the actual scene). I love it.

It wouldn't be possible even with the show's heightened reality model) People can survive a lot of terrible injurues, but they can't cut their leg off, then, still being super-high, cook about 10-13 kg of meat while hopping on one leg around the kitchen. Not to mention that 1) Bedelia has never been crazy or prone to irrational outbursts 2) She hides a fork in that scene, ready to stab her hosts 3) Creators confirmed it multiple times that Will and Hannibal did it to her. Bryan Fuller even said how shocked he was that some people thought Bedelia did it to herself)

And well, yeah, the deleted scene in the end of the video seems like they're husbands sitting in the church in these suites. Okay. Season 4, please!

Emma Jochum Well... Tbh they don't really 'tease' a romantic relationship all the way through the show, it's definitely more complicated than that. It's like... They understand each other more than anyone else ever has. And Hannibal has done some messed up things to Will. But (I have only watched up to 3x03) I guess by this point it has turned romantic. And you don't even have to worry about it being teased because the creator has literally said "GLOBAL WARMING IS REAL AND SO IS HANNIGRAM" or something like that hehehe And the actor who plays Will said basically 'it eventually reached the point where we couldn't deny that it was going in a romantic direction anymore' so yeah yay :) Overall I would DEFINITELY recommend the show, it's beautiful and interesting and amazing.

Okay, it's been a while since I watched, but about that chapel scene: if I remember correctly, Hannibal's mind palace is in the form of that chapel, and halfway in season 3, Hannibal says to Will that both their mind palaces are starting to share rooms. In some later episodes, you see them "talking" to eachother in that space, with Hannibal at the alter (I interpret this as Will coming into Hannibal's mind palace) and Will in the seating area, when in reality they're in the asylum. In this extra scene, they are sitting, side-by-side, which symbolizes that they are now completely sharing the same mind palace. :') AND I LOVE THIS I don't think it's trying to show them physically being alive and in Florence, Bryan instead wants to suggest that more subtely, with the empty seats at the table.

I remember Bryan Fuller was actually the one who told them to make it a bit less obvious (and that’s why he chose the cut that ended up in the final episode) cause the actors were really into it ie they got the subtext. I think now that Netflix has Hannibal, there’s a chance of a season 4 and I’m pretty sure are a lot more easygoing about any gayness so who knows what we’ll see

When this was live in its prime, the fandom wanted a real kiss more than anything and wouldn’t let it go for years after the finale. But almost a decade later, as an adult, I recognize how powerful this scene is without a kiss. Them not kissing conveys how incredibly deep, complicated, and unconventional their love for each other is. A kiss would have simplified and reduced their relationship down to a comprehensible romantic affair that we are more familiar and comfortable with. Not kissing shows that there is SO much more to their connection that we are not on a level to understand. In simpler words, they love each other BEYOND what we perceive as love.

I usually prefer direct romance, but this show literally changed my mind. Bryan showed everything he wanted to show in every little detail, Mads and Hugh are also perfect actors for their character. Their romance is not shown, but at the same time it is, and you can feel it directly hitting your heart, powerful and strong. Although I’d fangirl if they actually kissed, but the fact that they didn’t went SO well with the whole show and this scene that I just loved it the way it is. This is my favorite show of all times.

I couldn't agree more! Honestly, I just think I haven't seen enough good portrayals of romantic subtext. Bryan Fuller did an amazing job handling the subtlety of their romance and I applaud him for pulling it off so flawlessly

If they had kissed they'd have never stopped until one devoured the other.

In a very morbid and deeply disturbing sense, this is incredibly beautiful. I just finished the series on Amazon Video and I bawled at this part.

I love subtleness and I think it was better that they didn't kiss. This way for me it was even more meaningful. I am tired of direct romance. Though I sure love more the "kiss alts" video they didn't insert in the show. Especially the way Hannibal's hands end up on Will's waist. Those should have been in the show!!!!!!

On the contrary, I'm tired of subtley/subtext. I can count on one hand the number of my M/M and F/F OTPs that are canon and still have several fingers left over. If the series ever gets continued I hope Fuller allows their relationship to get more explicit. Not to say that I want, like, sex scenes, but actually screen-time showing their intimacy.

They worked so well together, these two actors are just so incredible.

I'm not sure if Hannibal actually has a sexuality. I'm beginning to think it's based off of minds if that makes any sense. Will's is the most complicated and intriguing and that did something to Hannibal because he realized there could actually be someone for him in life. I think Hannibal is in love with Will's mind regardless that Will is a man. I don't think Hannibal based it off gender.

If s4 does happen, I would be SO excited to see how their relationship would be further explored, because what they have is just so special that it can't be simply shown with a kiss or another romantic gesture (even though let's be honest, we would probably all love to see that and it would be another great lgbtq+ representation besides Alana and Margot). They have such a unique kind of intimacy. It's really fascinating and I would love to see more. We're rooting for you Netflix! #SaveHannibal

I love the deleted scene. Really simple and vague and fulfilling. Same pose, sitting symmetrically, balanced finally. And the hug, which is more of an “Okay we’re both bleeding profusely, I’d probably kiss you if there weren’t so many holes in my face, we’re probably about to die, whatever, gonna go ahead and faceplant into this spot on your shoulder now, this is amazing”

I miss this show so much. I loved the MurderHusbands. They had such great chemistry.

These two are amazing actor, they made the connections extremely beautiful on a relationship extremely awful. We know this relationship sucks, it's bad, it's wrong but how they made it, how it worked, it was the fact that they were soulmates from different bands. A whole Romeo and Juliet, but more tragic, and without these actors it wouldn't even be close to what it is. They made us feel the connectionsince chapter one

I love how Will forces Hannibal’s hand around his waist. Truly symbolises how their relationship changed. At the start, it was Hannibal having Will in his grasp; now it’s a 180. He’s almost timid, tentatively holding Will’s shirt as Will takes initiative and forces Hannibal to embrace him- representing how in their final moments, his finally accepted Hannibal into his heart. However, he can’t live with loving Hannibal, so he kills them both.

It's not often I feel this level of emotion during a TV show, but somehow you managed it, I hope you continue your great work in other projects and (hopefully!) your show gets the credit it deserves and gets picked up for another season/theatrical release. :)

I read somewhere that their embrace was not part of the scene. It was a straight hateful push off the cliff. Mads and Hugh added that element of romance and almost kiss so their fall would seen to be been done, not out of hatred but out of love. They even run to Bryan to check if that moment was captured
