You had to remind me of Fancy Gap . I broke down just as I got to the top in the morning fog. Two or three rigs passed me by… boy was I all alone up there. A trooper with lights on even passed me by. About an hour later I tried the engine and she fired! I nursed it all the way down….as I passed one rig rear-ended the other right to the back of the cab. The trooper was apparently responding to the crash….guess I was lucky after all. Wow!

I have to say, that 359 was a bunch of fun to drive around, even with a trailer… Small cab, so the visibility was quite good, nimble too. 9-speed that was so worn in, it would just drop right into gear. One of the instructors joked that the gear would fall in like an old hooker. lol

I was 19 got on a crew hauling gravel. Got an old 63 international hauled like 10 yards. Boss gives me a quick run on how to drive an lod truck that doesn't have synchronized Transmission. He told not to worry bout scratching gears it was called a scratch box. Drove it for like 3 days the boss had me give him a ride into town. I had a load, we take off out of the yard. Only time I used the clutch was to stop. Any shifts done by the rpms on the motor. We get into town and he finally after bout 4 miles realizes I haven't scratched a gear since we left the yard. He was amazed at this but got a little upset because I wasn't using the clutch with a full load. After about 2 weeks I got the brand new peterbuilt with the 13 speed road master air ride seat. Air-conditioning.

About an hour later I tried the engine and she fired! I nursed it all the way down….as I passed one rig rear-ended the other right to the back of the cab. The trooper was apparently responding to the crash….guess I was lucky after all. Wow!

See I now own the Family Logging Business and my Uncle's Pete "Old Fat Sally" is still driven daily from the landing where the logs are sorted and stacked to the mill . I have to say, that 359 was a bunch of fun to drive around, even with a trailer… Small cab, so the visibility was quite good, nimble too. 9-speed that was so worn in, it would just drop right into gear. One of the instructors joked that the gear would fall in like an old hooker. lol

The man knows his truck.
